  1. I have the left side pain too. At a week out I thought it was gone but then I moved wrong in the bed when I was trying to move my cat out of my way lol and I felt as though I "pulled" it again so it's been hurting again. Getting a bit better each day though. I think it is from them cutting through the muscle.
  2. ~ crossing my legs ~ wearing hubby's jacket and having it be huge on me ~ traveling comfortably (plane/train/bus seats, europe where everything is small) ~ hiking, biking, etc enjoying the outdoors here in Colorado ~ amusement parks/water parks being enjoyable again ~ summer dresses / wearing dresses without thighs rubbing together ~ cute shoes (right now my feet are too wide for anything but sneakers) ~ having the door held open for me ~ using clothes to define my own style, instead of wearing the best of the crappy stuff I can find, wearing whatever fits ~ regular sized bath or beach towels, wrapping around my body! ~ not dreading being weighed every time I go to the doctor ~ not feeling like I take up too much space in public places like elevators ~ sitting in chairs at people's homes without worrying about breaking them ~ hearing "you're so pretty" instead of "you have such a pretty face."
  3. That was a really smart question to ask! I don't know if I would have thought to ask that. Thanks for the info.
  4. If it helps, my surgeon specifically mentioned Wendy's chili as an excellent dining out option. He said chili in general is an excellent food to eat packed with protein and fiber, and very filling to a sleever.
  5. Well the regimine for me was supposed to be 1 oz of fluid every 15 mins. Are you doing that? I think I had trouble the first couple days meeting my quota but by day 3 or 4 it was all good. Keep trying! :001_tongue: It gets easier.
  6. I had these types of pains from drinking also and they gradually got better. I'm at 2 1/2 wks now and they stopped but I don't know exactly when. I think it's from all the air pumped into our abdomen for surgery. The more you walk, the faster you will get rid of all the air. I also used Gas-X strips. I think at about a week they stopped for me but I was walking a LOT to get rid of the gas.
  7. Thanks guys! He is doing well! He's been home for about 5 hours now, took a good nap for almost 2 hours, is getting in his fluids and walking around as much as he can. He's cranky, definitely not feeling the best but I know he will feel so much better each day like I did. I'll keep working on him about joining the forums :sad0: You guys are great thanks for caring!
  8. Hey again everyone! I am sorry to hear about those of you who are experiencing the hunger too :sad0: Are you waiting to drink an hour after eating? I have been doing that today even though I'm not supposed to have to worry about it yet... and I really think it's helping. Also - I made up a tuna salad mixture. It is about 5 oz of tuna, 2 TBS light mayo, 1 tsp mustard, 2 tsp sweet relish and a little bit of finely diced onion. It's so delicious! I ate 2 ounces and felt FULL! FINALLY! I feel full for the first time since surgery. I am anxious to see if it lasts me the 2-3 hours it is supposed to. I'll let you all know.
  9. Thank you EVERYONE for weighing in on this today. I felt like I was going to bang my head against the wall soon. I have GREAT news, I really lucked out today. When we were waiting to check hubby out of the hospital, Kim came in - she is the head of the whole bariatric program at the hospital and works closely with my surgeon. She said that the sleeve program here is pretty underdeveloped because they've done so few... and they group us in with the bypass patients as far as the nutrition guidelines and classes... and that 1 ounce is far too little. She said I can eat UP TO 4oz in one sitting, every 2-3 hours. I don't know if it will take 4oz to fill me up or not but I will play around with it and see. She also said I could go ahead and advance to the next phase of eating - full soft food diet!! I said what do I do since the nutrition class for it is not until next week - she sat down and wrote out a list for me of what I could eat! She also said there was a cookbook written by one of my surgeon's patients that included recipes for all the eating phases, and I could go get it in his office which I did. I am home now (and hubby is too - resting comfortably) and I am going to go have some cottage cheese b/c it's time to eat but then I'm going to look through the cookbook and probably make up some stuff that I can try to eat later. I will let you all know how it goes. I think a lot of the problem here comes from the fact that a bypass patient starts with a 1 ounce stomach and mine is 3-4oz, and they just group us all together. I am so glad Kim came around and shared all this info with me. Also - she said even though generally they don't worry bout you drinking after meals until 6 weeks/solid food, that I should start now since I am having problems with hunger (which I was doing already after the suggestion this morning) so I am going to continue with that. If none of this works I will try the Prilosec too. Just don't want another pill to take if i don't have to :sad0: But I think that is a great suggestion Tiffy and thank you for the info. Also Kim said I could start solid food at 4 weeks if I want to, instead of 6 weeks... but, I will wait and see how this phase goes and if I am not dealing with the hunger as badly I will still wait until 6 weeks. Thank you everyone!
  10. Good advice Lillie. Phatcurves, wherever you are, please come back and post. I hope you know none of us say any of this to be hurtful.
  11. It definitely sounds like acid, I'm not sure what else would make your throat burn like that! But I'm not sure exactly what to tell you to try. Before surgery when I had a lot of acid I found that drinking a small glass of milk really helped it, perhaps you could try a small glass of milk before your workout.
  12. Tiffy... Did you do Prilosec OTC, or a prescription? I guess I could try it. Because I do feel these hunger pains about an hour after eating so maybe you are right. I didn't think it was acid because I had acid all the time pre-op and it felt completely different but I am willing to try anything! I think today I will start trying to not drink for an hour after my meal too and see if that helps.
  13. Goodlife... my nutrition program says not to worry about drinking before/after meals until I get on solid food at 6 weeks - BUT - I think when I move to the semi-solids at 3 weeks (next week) I am going to start practicing that as much as possible and see if it helps. You might be onto something there. Maybe for me that's an issue even if it isn't for most in the early stage. Thank you for the idea.
  14. Hi all! Well as some of you know, yesterday was my hubby Ian's surgery day. He still hasn't joined this site so I will just pop on here and talk about it for him hehe. He did so great. When they brought him up to his room after surgery he was already awake and alert... he didn't even doze off or rest until HOURS later. Unlike me who was totally out of it the first few hours LOL. He also didn't feel much pain... that is until the anesthesia wore off. :-/ He has a higher pain tolerance than I do but he still is pretty uncomfortable and sore right now. But he is in great spirits!! He has had zero hunger (unlike me who is still hungry all the time) so I am very very happy for him that it was apparently very successful. He gets to come home from the hospital today and I know he is looking forward to that. They just said they want him to walk more so they can make sure his oxygen levels stay good, and they want to make sure he can get all his fluids in. I snapped this pic before he went into surgery... he looks so happy and excited!
  15. Ack PinkJewels... NOT what I was hoping to hear but I thank you for telling me because I need to be prepared if that is what is in store for me. I might have to put more effort than most in making all the right choices if I am not full on my small amounts of food. Goodlife... yes I get all my fluids and Protein each day. Right now I'm in the yogurt/cottage cheese/refried Beans stage... and hoping solid foods will help but like I said I experimented yesterday and it didn't seem to help so I am worried.
  16. That's fantastic, way to go! Can't wait for your next update!
  17. Congrats Tiffykins... you are a model patient for all this and someone I hope to model myself after. You look great, you feel great, and it ain't by accident :001_tt2: You are the most informed person I've seen around here and you stay involved and help anyone and everyone you can... you go girl!
  18. OK kids. I have been trying to keep a very positive attitude about this but I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and still experiencing hunger all day every day. I had intense hunger pains the first few days after surgery, and they got better, but I experience mild to moderate hunger ALL day EVERY day - still. My surgeon just keeps saying it's different for everyone, it should go away, etc... but I don't know if I'm convinced. I tried some slightly more solid food yesterday as an experiment - had some cheese (the kind that is a small little block to eat) and I still didn't stop feeling hungry. When I eat my 1 ounce of soft food every two hours, I feel less hungry for a tiny bit but after an hour I'm really hungry again and have to wait an hour to eat. I am in despair because this feels like DIETING!!!! Restricting yourself to less than you want and dealing with the hunger. THIS IS NOT HEAD HUNGER. I have successfully watched hubby and best friend eat burgers, pizza, etc and I did totally fine. Yes I longed for it a bit (that's the head huger) but I put myself in the right mindset, enjoyed the smells, etc. THIS IS ALSO NOT ACID. I have had acid plenty before surgery and I know what it feels like. This is pure physical hunger and I know what it feels like, I am definitely in tune with that. So.... please... if ANYONE ELSE has experienced this please tell me what you did about it, if it went away with time, if it went away when you got to solid food, etc.' Hubby had his surgery yesterday (and is doing very well) and woke up with no hunger, and still isn't feeling any so far (I was having hunger pains the whole time in the hospital!)... so now I am feeling really really super unlucky and gypped. I am usually a very very positive person but this is really getting me down :001_tt2:
  19. What a great feeling! I can't wait to put my wedding dress back on some day down the road and be swimming in it like that You are doing great and you're an inspiration!
  20. Great job!! I had lost 18 at my first week appt. Can't wait to find out what it will be at 3 weeks!
  21. As for the last part you said - when we are 80, etc.... this is the way I see it. Good luck getting to 80 years old at all if you are obese and in poor health right? Someone else had brought up the same thought and that is what occured to me.
  22. LOL that's funny! I'm two weeks out tomorrow and no regrets even though I can't eat much at all. It's all worth it! Wishing you all the best tomorrow. My husband is having the surgery tomorrow too!
  23. I really think that is RIGHT ON goodlife, and not harsh but out of love. Girl we all care about you and want to see you succeed at this!!
  24. Great job Jerry!! Keep it up! I'm jealous, I don't get to advance my diet til week 3. Did weigh at the office today and I'm down 21 lbs total so far in 2 weeks. Yay for May 20th!! :001_unsure:
  25. That's super cute!! You will look great out there!
