Confused newbie
Definitely do your research. I personally have spoken to several people that have had the band and after 2 refills or so they just stop going back and gain everything back. I fills terrified me enough that I started researching the sleeve. I was scared that it was the only WLS that was non reversible but after looking at all the complications and reading info from the experts, I decided it was the only way to go. I'm only at 5 weeks and I've had no complications at all. I went back to work 1 1/2 after the surgery was done and I've already lost 35 lbs. I do watch what I eat to make sure its healthy and follow my doctors recommendations. Good luck with your decision and beware this site becomes easily addictive.

told my parents
Congrats. My parents were so supportive they invited themselves to Costa Rica where I had my surgery and even stayed at the same Medical retreat I was at. Since my father never leaves the house for anything this was a major event. He didn't say anything but then actions speak louder than words. right? lol.

Practical Immediate After Surgery Activity Question
4days after surgery I walked 5 hours in downtown costa rica. I followed my doctors recommendation of the more you walk the better it will be. As a result I've had no issues. Good luck

So much for me being a consistent updater :)
Wow a whole egg lucky you. Eggs happen to be the one thing that makes me sick, and that was when I only ate half of it. I have to say I'm jealous. I have more energy as well. Keep up the great work.

How do you feel 4 weeks out?
I'm a little over 1 month out and I feel better than normal. I've lost 1-2 size of clothing. I have a lot more energy. I still love to cook, I just put my portion in the magic bullet and blend to make it easier to digest. However I've been out several times and have ordered normal meals I just eat so very little at this point. Find a protein shake you love cause you have to have it 1-2 times a day. Best money I ever spent.

Anyone else have problems holding down food ?
I had my surgery on 2/7 so I'm also 30 + days out. Since I've read we can develop a leak until 6 weeks I'm taking it slow and still having soft/mushy foods. I've found my favorite is cooked chicken with cheese and mayo and blend it in the magic bullet. I can eat about 1/4 cup of food and that's it. Last night at friends house they ordered Chinese food and I had 1 little chicken from generals tso's and 1/2 of 1 dumpling. I was stuffed. I felt uncomfortable for about 15 min with that amount of food so 1/2 cup would kill me at this point. I haven't had any bread or pasta yet. Since I'm eating so little I'm sticking with the protein only. Good luck and don't feel bad taking it a little slower. Listen to your body.

Reflux help
Wow. We had the surgery on the same day! I also had major problems with reflux. I was taking prevaicd OTC and told my doc it just wasn't enough. She gave me a prescription for omeprazole 40mg (same thing twice the dose to take once a day and that seems to have done it. Good Luck.

Sleeved 2 days ago - Hospital Experiences
I know this might sound weird but go to skymall.com and look up protein. there are several items that have 3 oz protein shot /meal replacements. I got some to help with the overall protein since its hard for me to drink so many shakes. My favorite so far is the hazelnut coffee.

Food Funeral Thread
I refuse to give up my Cadbury eggs. I only get to have them once a year and I will eat one (well maybe 1/2 of one since I still can't eat that much.) I however have said goodbye to my beloved Pepsi and caffeinated starbucks coffee with 14 sugars. (Crying)

Happy happy
I weight myself today and made it to my first goal. I started at 330lbs and today I'm 297. Hip hip horray. I'm finally under 300 and it's under a month since my surgery. Tuesday will be my one month anniversary. To make things even better my mother in law and I went to the cheesecake factory for dinner and I ordered the cheese points and a bowl of soup. I had only half of a cheese point and 2 spoonfuls of the soup and I was done. It sucks not being able to eat as much but I'm so happy that I'm not thinking about food all the time and planing my day around it. I love my sleeve!

hungry during 1st week post op
Look up the recipe for rice water. Not the one with condensed milk (hortchata). It was a life saver for me that first week. But I still felt a little hungry and was told it was mind hunger not real hunger. It does get much better I promise you. Best of luck.

I broke the mold.
Hi Dawn. I know how you feel. I'm only 5 8 but I started at over 330 pounds. I just had surgery on the 7th of Feb and I've already lost 25 lbs. While people are talking about onederland I'm just trying to get to the 200's. But it's only been 3 weeks so I think I'm going fine. I wish you the best of luck on your journey. And watch out this site becomes easily addicting.

Destress Cooking
nothing but salt and pepper ( I threw in just a pinch of chili powder when my husband wasn't looking). He gets really defensive about his soup lol.

Destress Cooking
So I work at a major airport and was totally stressed all day. So much drama that I was going crazy. (and that was just with the co-workers) So I come home and start to cook. I took all the veggies out I had, celery, carrots, leak, garlic, onion and diced it up and threw it into a pot. Then I cut up some chicken and threw that in with some bullion cubes. I took a cup and blended it all together for my first real meal. I am happy to report that only 1/2 a cup later and I'm stuffed. I'm so happy that its all I can eat!!!! And it tasted great! I now have lunch for tomorrow and the next and the next.

Hit my first plateau at 3 weeks
I lost 20 ibs the first week after surgery then I STALLED for a whole week and gained 2 ibs. I didn't worry as I figured my body was probably going WTF. It thinks your starving and tries to hold on to the weight. After one week I started losing again. I'm going to start week 3 on Wednesday and I've lost a total of 24 Ibs. I even thought I was binging when I went to visit my sister for the weekend in Atlanta but when I came home and weighed myself I actually lost. Woo Hoo!!!. Time seems to move by so slowly since I still fell like the fat one at home and at work. But I can say I've lost and least one whole pant size and my shirts are fitting much better. Try not to weight yourself to often. (I know its hard cause your all excited the weight is coming off). And GOOD LUCK!

Vitamins make me SICK!

13 Days out - First dinner in public with family
I know how that feels. I had to go to Outback with family for birthday party and ordered the potato soup. I know I'm not supposed to have potatoes but that was my only option as I am allergic to seafood. My husband was great and asked that they bring the soup out early since I couldnt have appetizers and it took me all through the dinner to finish half a cup.

WTF did I do to myself?
My doc said the more I walked the better I would feel. He was right. I got up every hour to walk and by day three no pain. Wishing you the best!
