  1. So nice to hear from all you ladies! So sorry for your loss Denise... Sometimes life is so hard to take. I have to say, Coops, you look darling in those photos! Sheryl! Glam! You don't look too thin, you look just right. Georgia, you are an inspiration to me. I was going to start 5:2 again on thursday, but just couldn't wait so fasted yesterday and kept it under 1300 cals today with some good exercise as well. I am way up and it is SO easy for me to gain right now. I need to lose close to 30 pounds if I want to back at the old low. I just don't feel that "normal" feeling any more... I know I still weight less than I used to.... but.... anyway... I'm back on track, and so happy to have your company ladies! Cathy, you are such a great support here, I really appreciate you.
  2. Whey is lactose free... or find pea or soy or hemp protein powders. I couldn't eat salad for many months, but now can eat anything. Raw was not easy early on... even dairy was not well tolerated the first couple of months. Mashed beans and veggie cheese. Sometimes your taste budds are really off early on, you must get in your protein anyway... treat it like a medicine if you have to. Buy sample sizes if you can find them to try out.
  3. Hurray! I managed to catch up with the posts. Now I know about your thigh Sheryl, Cathy, Denise, Sheryl and Coops doing 5:2 again..... I will join you on thursday. I am out of town for a few days, and can make a fresh start after I get back. And am waiting to hear about Coops Disney voyage. Cathy, I am so glad you had the chance to visit with Mom. I think about my mom every day too.... just little things I would like to share with her, and such. I am so grateful that I had such a great mom in my life, I just let that thought smooth out the moments I miss her. I have been lucky. Dad and I get along well too, we didn't connect for years, but as we both get older, it has gotten better, and I think in some ways I'm his best friend. I hope that Florinda is doing well... she is a mercurial gal, with dramatic ups and downs... not easy for her I'm sure. NIce to see Georgia here too! We tough base on Facebook sometimes, nice to see her there. I'm looking forward to joining you guys in the 5:2... I could use some support to get back on track. Well, Ill report from Birdwatching this weekend... nature is grand!
  4. Yep. Lots of choices for Veggies. Just keep track and make sure you are eating enough protein. If you eat eggs and dairy, gluten and soy, you really have a lot of choices. Nuts and beans too.... As a veggie, you can still eats loads of junk and sliders, so just keep on top of that, and everything should be ok. Make sure you take your B Vitamins.
  5. Hi guys... its your long lost sis from California! Going well on this end. Still riding the bike, and made my first solo ride today. I went into town and to the Crocker art museum. Saw a couple of good shows, turned around and rode home. Proud of myself. I get so scared-y-cat the whole morning before I go riding. Clears up pretty good when Im on the bike though. So when I got on our thread this time, I knew I would have PAGES to read to catch up, but for some reason when I tried to go backwards from this page, I would go back to July 2013. I tried it a couple of times and same thing. So I am in the dark about whats up with you guys. Sheryl.... Thigh? Guess I will just jump in and start fresh. Craig is in New Zealand... its kind of nice to be on my own for a while. I get a chance to remember who I am without him. Just do my own thing, how I drive, clean, shop, spend time doing what I want and such. Just this week I was invited to be in two art shows in LA. Should be fun. Means I need to get down to work on the painting.... I've been so busy with the bike and work.... It will be nice to get back in a groove painting. I seem to have stabilized at around 25 pounds up.... at least Im still 60 down. I have been doing the pouch test thing, and lost 2 of it... been keeping under 1100 cals a day on most days this week... and think I will get back into the 5:2 after I get the carb monster a little bit more under control. Feeling optimistic. Anyway, back in the pack. Nice to see you guys are still here! Happy Valentines Day All!
  6. HI all, and hi Sheila! NIce to hear from you. I'm up up and up! Up 29 pounds. Feeling and looking fat, but still down 60 so what can i say. Craig finally is working to lose a few and get in better shape, so my partner in crime is makeing it easier to do the right thing. We just started what we call a WWF Yoga program, and I still dance twice a week. I am back on the streight and narrow.... 1200 a day on myfitnesspal. I have lost 2 pounds so far, its a start. I also have been learning how to ride a motorcycle for the past 2 1/2 months. I have a bike, and Craig and I are planning to ride to the Arctic Circle Starting at the end of July . I will have to see if I am good enough to do that..... I went on a 170 mile ride last weekend.... only dropped the bike twice and almost got creamed by a car on a country road. I get so nervous when I start my rides, but usually get on top of that within a few miles. I am doing OK I think, but still don't know if I will get to LOVE it enough to do the longer trips. Its not really good for bird or wildlife watching. I steer where I look, and looking in the filed next door means I run off into the field! We will see about that. Its been very cold for here, and it never got over 49 degrees the whole day. Blue fingernails!
  7. HI all! Nice to catch up with all the news. I am doing well... pretty much ignoring my weight and eating habits... not good, but turning this huge ship takes a lot of time... anyway, still taking the bike out for our weekly ride and practice. Mostly the river roads, levee riding. I am submitting some work for an art show I have been in a few times. Its very competitive, over 10,000 people apply each year for around 250 spots on the wall. I did not apply last year, and hope I am still on the "It" list this time. I have been invited to hang some work at this years Edwardian Ball in San Francisco, its the best party I have ever attended. Looking forward to that. I think I posted pics here two years ago when I was included in that show.... Craig is going to New Zealand for 4 weeks in Feb... I will have some quite time here, which is nice once in a while. I am planning on taking a long birdwatching trip with an old friend of mine. That should be nice. Riding to Gray Lodge wildlife refuge on friday the 1st with Craig.... My longest trip yet, around 140 miles round trip. http://www.cawatchablewildlife.org/viewsite.php?site=83&display=q
  8. Got on the scale yesterday . Time to get real. Gained 5 pounds. I immediately jumped back onto 5:2, lost 2.5 pounds... back on 1260 cals on regular days. Write it all down everyday. MUST keep this up. Sobering.
  9. Mix it with water.... you can even make a drink from it... use some extracts, over the rocks... a splash of juice.... you can eveLook up Shrub. A shrub can also refer to a cocktail or soft drink that was popular during America's colonial era, made by mixing a vinegared syrup with spirits, Water, or carbonated water.[1][4][5] The term "shrub" can also be applied to the sweetened vinegar-based syrup, from which the cocktail is made; the syrup is also known as drinking vinegar.[3][6][7] Drinking vinegar is often infused with fruit juice, herbs and spices for use in mixed drinks.[6][8][9]
  10. I found companies that offered free or low cost sample protein powder. This helped me to get an idea of what I liked. For premixed I like muscle milk low carb.... good in ice coffee in the morning.
  11. Glad to hear from you guys! Kelly.... I hear the healing takes a year.... hope the best for you!
  12. Hi! Busy busy.... riding the bike, I dropped it today for the first time... in front of a butt load of bikers.... and managed to break off the tail light of a VERY nice and expensive Ducatti.... ouch! I got off with buying the guy and his friend beer.... I on the other hand was not hurt at all (except my pride) The helmet and all is working good so far! My bike was unharmed. I am not weighing, but I have to say pics of me in the armor look very fat (it is padded and has armor). yikes! Something has to chance soon. Just found out my dear dance teacher has cancer, will be getting chemo, surgery and healing for around a year. I may have to take over the class or better yet share with someone else part of the time.... I am so sad about it.... dear lady friend. She is the healthiest person I know.... fit, eats like a saint.... never speaks poorly of anyone.... Here is a pic of my bike and Craigs new bike on a ride we did friday....
  13. Thanks guys! Same to you. Craig and I went for a bike ride along the river and in town this morning. I made dinner, and kept it pretty clean. Saturday we will get together with the family, and Im sure there will be pie heaven there. Enjoy your weekend all!
  14. Stalls are normal for most people. Stay on track and the scales will move again. 3 weeks is not a deal breaker.... I had several 3 week stalls. Drink your water, keep moving, protein first....
  15. It's been around a year and a half.
  16. I don't know her whole story yet... but I know she was a dancer out of New York when young.... I am happy for them, I want them to be happy.
  17. He is 87 and so is she. Shes very nice! Met some of her kids at dinner, and they are cool too. Here they are in pirate costumes for a 1 year olds birthday party! He got engaged?!??? How old is he? How incredibly lovely!!!!
  18. I am heading in that direction too... been off of the 5:2 for about 4 weeks, and need to kick start it again.
  19. Just checking in.... had my first real "ride" last Friday... drove up the river road to the next county. One step at a time! Glad to hear the surgeries are doing well..... Kelly? How about you? My dad just got engaged... nice 87 year old lady, she could be a model! He like the good lookers! Anyway, we meet up with her family last night for dinner and a toast. They all seem nice. Hip armor is not my friend as far as looks go!
  20. Keep in mind Bella, EVERYONE wants to get to 100%. Hi @feedyoureye...you are one of the few posters still on here from when I was first sleeved. How are you doing; weight loss, length of time, skin excess, loss of muscle, complications? It took me 3 years to get to my goal weight. Felt fantastic! Had a very difficult year.... lost my mom, my husbands dad and my darling dog of 16 years.... among a list of other things... and ate the greif. Not a ton, I did keep many good habits. I exercised and still do 4-5 days a week, semi fast one or two days a week, still work on protein first and all those healthy habits, vitamins, doing things I love, learning new things and checking in to my support family right here. I have gained 20 pounds, the skin is pretty good, I was losing hair for around 4 of the last 5 years, but that has stopped and my hair looks different, but returned at last... waist length and pretty thick again. I am a different person in some ways, older but wiser. At this time I have kept off around 70% of my Excess weight.... higher than the average statistically which is around 58% or so I have read. Coming up on 5 years in January, I feel like a success.... sure I wish I was still at 100% but I have to tell you, maintenance is a lot harder than losing for me... and I am around 100% better off than I was before the surgery... I don't know about you, but I never lost all I wanted to before surgery, and NEVER kept it off for that long.... this is the very best I have ever managed with the sleeve, and really changing habits.... exercise and support and the other tricks of the trade.... I only make changes that I am pretty sure I can keep... no desperate diets or schemes... just back to basics, drink more water, reduce carbs a little, protein first.... and when I am doing the best, I am logging everything in MFP, using the fitbit and going to the Gym and/or other sporty activities that I enjoy. I have taken up kayaking, birdwatching (walking in nature a bunch) , kept up with Belly dance (I started this a couple of years before surgery) walk with a group of adults with developmental disabilities twice a week, and just took up motorcycle riding at age 62 with the intention of riding to the Arctic Circle next year. I always had a life, but now it is more active, and I can't eat as much in one sitting which helps quite a bit. Maybe one day I will be able to commit to enough changes that I might re-lose those 20 pounds, if not, I am now 20 pounds over weight, not 90.
  21. I think the bike does relate to horseback riding a bit.... a robot horse! Some of the same terms apply....like the saddle.... Of course the bike is not a live being... but I feel the wind in my hair ...and sometimes people say they "feel" like they are one with the right bike...
  22. Not much, a few times. He was never really comfortable with it, we are actually doing it more the last couple of weeks. I just had a mindset change, got the lessons and bought the bike within three weeks. We both went on the bike to the country road, then he just hung out and took photos from high ground where he could see me most of the time. No time like the present!
  23. Cathy, happy for your brother.... always nice to see a happy ending. I went and took my driving tests yesterday and passed, so went out for my first motorcycle ride on real roads. Managed not to crash. Had a blast! Craig and I hopped on the 650 and he took me to some country roads around 15 minutes from here where I was set free to practice. 40 miles per hours seemed like 60.... First day a success. Cheers all.... K
