  1. I had a c-section for failure to progress with my first child. I would like to have a baby late 2012/early 2013, and would really like to have a natural birth. I'm wondering if the band makes me high risk and kicks me out of VBAC.
  2. I have calculated it, and if I lose 3lb a week for the rest of the year, I will be 15 lb under my goal weight. I am exercising 5x a week, low carbing it, and watching calories (obviously). By exercise, I mean I have started couch to 5K on the elliptical, and will be switching to the treadmill as the weight comes off and my knees are better. I was banded April 21 and have lost 24 lb so far, with really no exercise (I had an incision re-open-yuck).
  3. Yeah, I know it's waaaaay below the belt, but wanting to not have another c-section, I'm wondering if they will say the band makes me too high risk. Docs love to call you high risk over strange stuff.
  4. Did they send you home with a deep breathing apparatus? I had the same thing and the Dr told me to breathe deeply with it 10 times, at least once an hour. WHen you have surgery, your lungs are really open to pneumonia, and you have to open them way up to prevent it. My fever was gone in 12 hours once I started doing the breathing.
  5. Actually, some insurances will cover it. I have Blue Cross and mine did. Twice already, actually. It's wonderful! I have NO underarm sweating now. AT ALL. It's a godsend, for someone who has been dealing with this for 14 years.
  6. Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have 5 incisions. On 4 of them he used clear dissolving sutures. On the one closest to my bra line, he used purple stitches. On day 8, I went into the office because one of the stitches had come undone, and he cut the top parts that were sticking out of my skin off, and pulled the purple stitches. Now that the internal stitches are dissolving, I am having an allergic reaction to them. The 4 incisions that have them are red all around for half an inch and they itch so bad it's excruciating. My best friend is a doctor and looked at them yesterday. SHe told me to put cortizone or neosporin with pain relief on them, no problem. Well, I've done both of those, benadryl cream, oral benadryl, and even tried the liquid lortab that's left over. Nothing works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I need a steroid pack. Ugh.
  7. I am SO tired of these damn shakes! I was on them for 2 weeks pre-op, and now I'm a week out from the band. Looking at them makes me want to vomit. I have pureed some soups and strained them but then I feel so guilty for "cheating". I go to soft foods next Wednesday, thank GOD. I'm having a mental moment where I desperately want to binge eat a pepperoni and jalapeno pizza, but I'm not gonna do it! Ugh.
  8. Oh, I am on Bariatric Advantage, and yes, they are the best, but why can't they come in flavors like Tortilla Soup and Creamy Tomato Basil?
  9. Thanks for your reply, at least it helps me remember there IS a light at the end of the tunnel! I puree'd some low fat beef/bean chili and added a TON of Louisiana Hot Sauce. It was good, but not fabulous. Better than chocolate shakes though! I think I'm not taking in enough calories, honestly, because I hate the shakes so much. I'm wondering if that's stalling me. SO tomorrow, I will drink 4 shakes, I will drink 4 shakes, I will drink 4 shakes.

    Bandster Hell anyone?

OMG, I am so jealous of you guys that are not still stuck on liquids. I am STARVING. These shakes get less and less appetizing every day. I have 2 weeks shakes only, then soft foods starting next Wednesday. So yeah, I'm in bandster hell!
  11. Hi all! I was banded yesterday with no complications. I slept like crap last night bc I am a side/tummy sleeper and sleeping on my back is really uncomfortable. Today I'm sore but no worse than web I had my c-section in may 09. I know I need to be up walking the block, but I'm pretty sore. How is everyone else doing?
  12. I was banded on 4/21 and am down 7 lbs since that morning. From my pre-op, on 4/14, I am down 17. Yesterday was horrible, but today I feel human again, and am just getting to know what "hungry" actually feels like. I can't wait for mushies. My God, cottage cheese makes my mouth water!
  13. Please tell me this goes away. I was banded on 4/21 and I feel like crap. My portnincision is killing me, and I have this constant deep ache where I'm sure the band is. I know I'm really only 2 days out but I feel so yucky! I'm desperate to feel better. Also, I am having trouble meeting my shake requirements because I'm just not hungry. And I'm so tired of sweet I could just die. But broth tastes bad too. Argh. I'm feeling so depressed.
  14. I was laying in bed last night, kind of halfway on my side but more on my back. I went to turn all the way on my back and felt this pop in the middle of my back. I couldn't tell if it was my spine or deeper inside. I was only banded on April 21. Do you think I'm ok?

    Banded yesterday 4/21/11

Seriously, I'm not hungry either! I tried to drink a Protein shake, but just am not feeling it. I'm having DH bring home some chicken Soup from Quiznos to strain. Maybe that will help with the dehydration issue. I can't believe I'm not hungry. It's so odd! Especially after the Clear liquids only day of Wednesday. That was a freaking nightmare. COngrats to you, too. We are on our way to a whole new life! How much do you want to lose? For me, to have a normal BMI, I need to lose 114 from my pre-op visit. That would put me at 169. Honestly, anthing under 190 and I think I'd be so happy. I'm planning to go buy a pair of jeans from GAP in the largest size they have and hang them up on my wall. That's goal #1! Hope you have a great day!

    Working Out

No kidding! My surgery is tomorrow and my post op instructions include walking up to 2 miles a day from day1!
  18. My gosh, your story is so familiar! I am 28, started putting on weight at age 8, my current BMI is 40.6. We are twins! I have Blue Cross Federal, and they are covering it. I had to do 3 months of supervised weightloss/nutritional counseling, etc. My surgery date is THursday, April 21. Good luck to you!
  19. My husband said the same thing! I guess this must be fairly common. If you figure out the magic words, let me know!
  20. Hi, Britgirl! I am scheduled for Thursday as well! I am so excited! I have to admit I am a little nervous as well, as I have had problems with anesthesia before, but I feel like this is going to be a new start for me. I can't wait to be healthier for my little boy. Good luck to ALL of you!
