Is travel 4 weeks after VSG realistic? (I'm pre-op & trying to plan)
I am 4 weeks out and just booked a vacation. Will be flying out next week for 10 day visit with my sister. I am eating regular foods - very soft, but normal foods. (eggs, cheese, turkey sausage, shredded chicken, etc.) Also, you will have shakes so you should be ok. Energy level is difficult some days, but overall I feel normal! Good luck on your journey!

I threw away my scale
My daily emotions are ruled by my scale. I am 4 weeks post op today and the journey has been good so far, but weight loss has been so difficult. I weighed 197 when I started my 7 day pre op diet, 185 on the day of surgery, 195 when I got out of the hospital and today I weigh 178 - this has been my weight for the last 3 days. I journal all my food and use ketostix every day so I know that I am good with carb intake (under 20 per day). I should put the scale away because I do feel depressed when I don't lose anything after drinking 96 oz of water and getting 60-90 grams of protein per day. Well, my only saving grace is reading what others have gone through and it keeps me strong and motivated to keep on track. This is my life now and I want to find other rewards than the number on a scale!

So glad to hear the news! Let us know what the doc says.

pain
I am just a little ahead of you - VSG 4/13 and I have been having a similar pain on my right side. I am still on liquid diet so don't know what could be causing this. It might still be gas working out of our bodies, but I hope it stops soon!

Clear Liquid Diet & Protein?
Thank you for posting this morning - I really needed to read encouraging words this morning! Very nervous and emotional about this journey, but I am ready to get this done! I will be sure to tell Dr. Kelly and Trish hello for you.

Clear Liquid Diet & Protein?
I have some nectar samples, Isopure and protein shots I will try today. Felt a little sick to my stomach yesterday and just the smell of broth really made me ill....all this before surgery!!! I drank so much cold liquid that I was freezing and had to go to bed with my heating pad. Thanks for your reply!

Clear Liquid Diet & Protein?
Started my 3 day clear liquid diet yesterday - do I need to be concerned about how much protein I get in? Instructions from Dr. Kelly just say broth, sf jello, diluted juice - no mention of protein requirements. Thought I was ready for this, but now feeling overwhelmed. Afraid I will get to TJ and he will find some reason not to do the VSG. Will be driving to San Diego on Tuesday with lots of bathroom stops!

58 years too old for VSG?
I am 58 and will have VSG on Wednesday in Mexico. I am too young to feel so old right now at this weight...barely able to walk because of bone spurs and plantar fasciitis in both heels. Go for it!

Anyone from AZ
My husband and I are driving to San Diego from Laughlin, NV on 4/12 for my VSG on 4/13 with Dr. Ramos Kelly. We are staying at the Hampton and will be picked up at 7:00am by a driver who will take us across the border. I am going through Sandy with Alighterme.com and she has been wonderful in answering all my questions. Started pre-op diet today and looking forward to getting this done.

Isopure
I bought Isopure plus today and think it might be the wrong thing. It is Alpine Punch with 15g protein, but 33g carbs and 11g sugar. Drove to another town just to get this one item and now should I return it??? It was the only Isopure they had in stock.

Introducing myself
I live in Nevada and will be driving to TJ for my VSG on 4/13 with Dr. Kelly. I am going through Sandy with ALighterMe and it cost me $5300.00 - if you can get VSG in AZ with your insurance, you would have follow-up in case of problems down the road. That is one of my main concerns, but my insurance barely covers routine medical issues much less VSG! I ordered almost the same samples and will start trying them tomorrow as I am starting my pre-op diet. Good luck on your journey!

April 2011
April 13th with Dr. Kelly in TJ....worried and wishing I had scheduled it in February!

Hidden scales...
I have been doing the same thing...eating everything I could and I have gained 6lbs since I filled out the application and sent in my deposit. Carbs make a huge impact on my moods so feeling very depressed on top of everything else. It makes me question my decision for VSG and if I will be able to handle such a totally different way of life and eating after I have the VSG done. Will start with shakes and protein meal today. Good luck!

Am I out of my mind.
This time last year I lost 40lbs on the HCG/500 calories per day diet..weighed 155 lbs..I gained it all back. I also joined an exercise bootcamp - worked out 1 hour every day, 5 days a week for 2 months and did not lose one pound. Then I decided I could not do this to my body anymore. I am 58, 5'1" and weigh 193. My heaviest weight was 212 when I was pregnant and my baby girl will be 28 this month. I can eat bags of cookies/chips/candy - a volume eater of everything - it is never enough to "fill" me up. I am praying the sleeve will be the tool to make me eat sensibly. This is not an easy way out, but it may be my last chance to take back my life and health. I am an avid scuba diver and travel the world with my husband, but I am not going to be able to do it much longer at this weight. If I do not go ahead with VSG, my nightmare is that I will weigh 300 lbs next year and more every year after that with no end in sight. No easy answer to your question, all I know is that VSG seems the best decision for me to have a better healthier life. I want to take my 2 year old grandson scuba diving when he is 10! Will be going to Dr. Ramos-Kelly on 4/13 in TJ, Mexico. Good luck!

Good for you! That is exactly why I decided to get VSG...to stop the yo-yo and maintain a sensible weight for the rest of my healthier life. Keep us posted on your journey. I will be sleeved in MX with Dr. Ramos-Kelly on 4/13. You have inspired me to get off the computer and start walking!

Places to get liquid protein samples
Thank you so much for keeping this thread active. This was just the push I needed to order samples and get serious about my pre-op diet. My surgery is 4/13 and I have been eating way too many "last meals"....gained 6bs. So now will start low carb sensible eating then pre-op diet for 14 days and clear liquids 3 days before surgery. I am 5'1" and 193lbs. I was 187 on 2/10/11 when I paid my deposit for VSG with Dr. Ramos-Kelly. I cannot continue to eat everything in sight just because I am stressed out about having surgery. I really need to start making good choices now and this forum really helps to keep me focused. I have ordered the Syntrax sample box for $13.00 including shipping and ordered Unjury starter kit, chicken soup & unflavored. Right now they are out of the unflavored, but it should be in next week. Thanks again for all the great information and support!

Dr. Kelly - Complications
I am also allergic to penicillin and scheduled for my VSG with Dr. Kelly on 4/13....Should I talk to them about the extra cost? I am allergic to just about every pain medication and antibiotic that I have ever been prescribed so this could be very interesting. This new wrinkle won't stop me from going, but it does make me a little more nervous.

Just scheduled VGS w/Dr. Rodriquez in TJ
I have spent hours reading every post regarding this procedure and want to thank everyone who takes the time to tell their story, the ups and downs, laughter and tears. Monday, I started my internet search, filled out medical questionaire with Beliteweight and today scheduled the operation with Dr. Rodriquez in TJ on April 13th. I am 58 years old and like most of you, have struggled with my weight all my life. Every diet plan, pill (yes Phen/Fen), hospital protein liquid diet, and HCG - tried everything and I can lose weight on all of them, but I cannot seem to keep it off. I have been going to an exercise boot camp 5 days per week for the last 2 months and have not lost one pound! My husband is totally supportive and is excited for me to have this procedure. I am concerned with the process only because I am not having to go through the tests and evaluations that people have to do in the US. I just told them what procedure I wanted and agreed to pay for it. Can it really be this simple? So glad I found this forum!
