Too Soon?
I think I'm experiencing my "what did I do to myself moment?" Which, if I think about it, is completely irrational at this point, considering I was just sleeved on the 27th. But right now it sucks. I can't eat anything because everything makes me sick, which makes me lie down all day, which means I'm not walking, etc. etc. I'm not getting Protein because I can't stomach the shakes (and I've tried about 5 of them) and I'm HUNGRY!!! I keep telling myself to wait it out. Physically I feel better but I know my insides haven't had that much time to heal yet. I just want it to hurry up. Sorry for whining

Anyone else experiencing heartburn/reflux?
I did try to stop eating and drinking before bed, but a lot of times that doesn't help either. Is yours constant because I feel like mine is. I feel it when I'm eating, when I'm not eating, laying down, sitting up, walking around. It's pretty annoying.

Anyone else experiencing heartburn/reflux?
No, I'm not on a PPI but after your reply, I'm definitely going to get in contact with my surgeon and ask him about that. Thanks so much! I was starting to feel like I was going crazy.

Anyone else experiencing heartburn/reflux?
I swear, mine is worse than before my hernia was repaired. I'm popping Pepcid like candy, but it doesn't really provide much relief. And I often wake up with a tightness in my chest and a lump in my throat, almost like I have to throw up, but I feel like that can't be since I haven't even eaten anything. Is anyone else having problems like this and do y'all have any suggestions for relief?

Tried some chili.. waiting to see how my stomach feels!
Oh. Ignore my last comment. I failed to scroll down. Sorry it didn't work

Tried some chili.. waiting to see how my stomach feels!
That is too funny! Just yesterday I said the first thing I'm making in stage 3 is chili. Let us know how it goes!

borderline repulsed by food!?
Oh my gosh, I feel exactly the same way! I tried jello, took two bites, and threw it away. The only thing I'm not repulsed by so far are the popsicles. I'm nearing the end of my second week....well, actually, I'm confused about that. My surgery was on the 27th of September and so I counted that whole week as week 1 Clear liquids, and then this past Monday, I started week 2. Is that even right? When I visited my doctor on Tuesday, he said it was okay to move to mushies. Anyways, I'm getting off topic. A lot of food is not sitting well with me. Mashed potatoes, cream of potato Soup, yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce, grits. None of those are okay with me right now. So far, I've been drinking tea and eating crackers because those are the only things that don't upset my stomach. I keep trying to remind myself that it hasn't even been a full two weeks and to give it time, but I'm hungry. Waaahhh.

cant believe i thought that would work!!!
My doctor prescribed my Pepcid AC. That and walking should help out a lot. Also, don't be afraid to let it out the other end <------helpful advice from one of my nurses. LOL

Having Trouble Eating
Thanks for the advice everyone! I saw my doctor before I left Jacksonville and he told me to move it up to mushies, but perhaps I should go back a level. I'm not even sure if mushies are the stage I'm in; that's what he called it. In my bariatric notebook, they call it "full liquids." I can eat cream based Soups (with no actual food pieces in them), cottage cheese, yogurt, soft cheese, crackers, and mashed potatoes, in addition to everything from Clear Liquids. Is that the same? But I hardly eat any of that because so far I've tried all of it and it all makes me sick. Except the crackers, which I only eat when I'm feeling sick. I barely eat during the day, too, especially if I start feeling nauseous. I'm definitely going to look for some Protein shots though. I just can't wait until I can eat without feeling like it was a bad idea. LOL Thanks again!

Having Trouble Eating
I'm a week a few days out from being sleeved and just started my mushies phase. However, I'm having trouble eating because almost everything I choose is making me ill. I know for a fact I'm not getting in enough Protein. I've tried about 5 different Protein shakes and they all make me sick. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I'm not so concerned about getting in enough food as I am in making sure that I keep my protein intake up.

Insomnia and Itchiness
Is anyone else having problems sleeping? I don't think I've slept a full night since surgery last week. Even if I try falling asleep after midnight, I'm still up a few hours later. Also, I am itching like crazy. Not just my incisions, but the area where my skin folds. This never happened before. Any suggestion for relief? I've been using Calamine lotion, but that doesn't really help.

Frightened by anyting more than liquids...
It definitely changed overnight. LOL

1 week out today! Way different than I expected!
I'm a week out today, too. What a difference from last week! I'm finally able to upgrade my food from broth to full liquids, which includes some not so liquids. I tried grits this morning and that didn't work so well. Currently, I'm giving cottage cheese a go. We'll see how that goes. I'm also waiting for when I feel whole again and I can be one of the people exclaiming about how much I LOVE my sleeve

September sleevers wanted!
I've started feeling hungry. At first, I wasn't sure if it was hunger or stomach acid, too, but I figured I would wait it out and see. Definitely hunger. LOL. So I just eat a popsicle and drink some water or protein drink and I'm good to go.

BM problems?
Okay, thanks! I didn't ask about adding fiber though. The nurse mentioned during discharge that they should start by themselves. But I have my week follow up on Tuesday, so hopefully I can remember to ask about the fiber.

BM problems?
Am I the only one? I haven't had a BM since the morning of surgery, and that was 6 days ago. I don't feel like I need to go and I realize I'm only drinking liquids, but shouldn't those be making their way out, too?

getting sleeved today!
Congratulations!! Keep us posted and I wish you a less painful recovery than I've had. LOL:thumbup:

September sleevers wanted!
I, too, was sleeved on the 27th. I had lost 13lbs on my pre-op diet. The nurses told me to weigh myself everyday, so when I got home from the hospital on Wednesday, I discovered I lost a pound. Then yesterday, I gained a pound. And today, I'm down 2 more lbs. I think weighing myself everyday is excessive so I probably won't do that anymore. But don't worry. It hasn't even been a week yet. The weight will start to come off. Just make sure you get the recommended amount of liquid each day and everything will work itself out :wink0:

Game. ON. (3 days post-op)
Congrats! I'm glad you're feeling better! I was sleeved on Monday and today is the first day I'm actually starting to feel better. My BP is sky high right now, too, and I've been put on meds, but hopefully that will end soon. Keep it up!

monthly cycles....
My cycle wasn't due to start until the Friday after my surgery, and I continued to take my BC pills everyday, including the day of surgery. However, my cycle started on Wednesday, but it's not like a regular one. I don't even really know how to explain it. There is barely anything coming out, and it's more orange than red. Weird, I know. But since it's not heavy, I haven't even really been thinking about it. I wonder if it will go back to normal next month?

Weird Dreams
Ever since my surgery, I've been having the strangest dreams. And all of them involve violence and eating something I'm not supposed to. I mean, it's unreal. And I'm remembering ALL OF THEM, which doesn't usually happen. I had one last night were I lived in the woods and had a bunch of dogs and someone kept trying to make them into a wolf pack. So I went outside to bring them in and remembered that I had a bunny and it was close to Easter, so I should get some jelly Beans. As I was eating them, I thought to stop because it was too soon to eat candy, but as I walked back inside, I was eating those sour gummie worms. I could feel my stomach stretching against the staples so I stopped eating them. That's when I woke up and I swear, my stomach was hurting for a good hour after that. Is anyone else experiencing this, or am I crazy?

That was hilarious!! Thanks for sharing.

3 days post-op
Thanks everyone for the support. Since waking up this morning, I have felt so much better. I definitely understand the restlessness. My bed is nice and comfy and I managed to sleep on my side, with the use of many pillows. But I would lay down and then feel the need to get right back up. I've tried to spend most of the time up and moving because I've noticed that I feel worse when I just lay down all day. I'm hoping I can head back to Orlando late next week. Fingers crossed. Oh, and an update on the dad situation. We didn't tell him until I was at the hospital getting prepped for surgery. I haven't really spoken to him but my sister did and he's NOT happy. Not that I expected him to be. According to her, he's more disappointed than angry. So we'll just see what happen. @ Ninaboo: mine is slowly starting to get better. For me, the gas is worse when I'm just laying down or right after I drink some broth. But (and the nurse was right about this) once it starts to come out of the other end, you'll feel a lot better.

Im getting scared!!!
The IV blows. That was probably the worst part. I was given a 4 hour window to pee or else they were going to give me a catheter. I made it n 3 hrs 45 mins.

3 days post-op
This might be a long one, so hold tight. But really, it will depend on how much energy I have to type. Here's my experience so far: I feel like crap. Everyone who ever told me they had surgery on Friday and were ready to go back to work by Monday are either crazy, on drugs, or a superhero. I can't imagine going back to work now. Or ever, really. LOL. I'll give a day by day account: Monday: got to the hospital about 1 1/2 hours early, but they took me back anyways and prepped me. I talked to about a million people and then finally they started to give me drugs. The last thing I remember is starting at the big lights in the operating room. I woke up (sort of) to people telling me to move from the gurney to my bed. I was not happy, I wasn't sore, but I was REEEEEALLY tired. The first few hours of waking up sucked. Then, at night, the gas pains were KILLER. I literally thought an alien baby was going to pop out of my abdomen. I hated it. I could only have Water and ice chips and every sip of water made my abdomen feel like it was expanding. Needless to say, I didn't drink much. Tuesday: I started feeling better and I was taken to x-ray so they could make me drink this stuff (not barium this time) and make sure nothing was leaking. The x-ray doctor kept telling me take big gulps. I just looked at her like "Um, are you aware of this procedure? I can not take big gulps." So I sipped as much as I could and then told them I couldn't anymore. I probably could have, but I was going to vomit. Speaking of, I couldn't keep down my pain meds. They gave me ativan, loritab, and something else through my IV. But then every time I gave myself a dose of morphine, I threw up. So out went the pain meds. Fun, right? Oh, gas pains tonight were so much worse than on Monday. I went from pain level 4 to 10 in about 20 minutes. I asked God to help and then begged my mother to shoot me. Not a good night. Wednesday: Again, woke up feeling better and was release from the hospital. The gas pains at night are the worst, but I hardly feel them during the day. So little by little, it WILL get better. But initially, it will be your own small circle of hell. At least, it was for me. Oh. I almost forgot. My blood pressure has been going up and up and up since Monday when I checked in. I'm normally in the normal 120/80 range, but it even got up to 166/98 at one point. So now, ironically, I'm on blood pressure meds. It's been hard getting my fluids in but I'm discovering today that it will be easier to keep track of stuff if I write it down. I'm supposed to be drinking 4-6oz every waking hour, but lately I've only been getting about 2oz. It probably doesn't help that I'm also sleeping most of the time. Whew. I gotta go rest now.
