14 Months Post Op & 5 Weeks Pregnant!
so I just found out last week that I am pregnant and I am so excited but also scared. I am having the worst heartburn, I have had bad heartburn since surgery I have been on 5-7 prilosecs a day to be able to eat and now with morning sickness it can be unbearable. Along with the heartburn I get nasty painful gas pains in my chest, back and shoulder area as soon as it sets in. My ObGyn has put me on Zantac 150mg 3 times a day, maalox and a OTC nausea med along with the prilosec and up until 2day it was working pretty good but now once again heartburn comes back with a vengeance. I am scared I am gonna have 9months of this pain it feels like my sleeve is going to explode when the gas pains are happening and they can last for hours, If someone has any ideas on how to deal with this or someone who has been through this has any advice I am all ears..Thank you...

Heartburn/acid reflux/GERD permanent after surgery?
My Surgeon believes it is something I will have 2 live with cause my heartburn has been soo bad and it is just a matter of getting it under control with meds and diet, But my stomach has been extremely sensitive since surgery! I know that most people go down to 1 ppi and some get completely off their ppi's!

vitamin deficiency 7months post op! Someone please help!!
Strwberriekissesrbetter replied to Strwberriekissesrbetter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery StoryThank you everyone! I am on prilosec 20mg my surgeon prescribed it for 2 times a day but I got my pcp to give it to me for 3-5 times a day cause since surgery acid reflux has been a bad problem for me! as for the vitamins I have tried bariatric advantage and after $200 later my stomach wouldn't tolerate any of them ,then I tried centrum liquid and all I did was gag and throw up I was trying to take the pill form centrum multivitamin but after 1 and it felt stuck and I gagged for an hour that was enough for me! on top of these complication I also ended up becoming extremely lactose intolerant which has made it very difficult to get my protein in, I have tried soy but I am not to fond of it and it makes me gag, I am wondering if I have an ulcer cause for the last month or so the only thing my stomach will tolerate with no problems is crackers and dry food similar to that!!

vitamin deficiency 7months post op! Someone please help!!
so here I am stuck between a rock and a very difficult place? I haven't been taking any vitamins since surgery not because I am being unruly but because when I try I get very ill and am sick for 2-3 days! but now my body is feeling like it is shutting down! I am in a ton of pain from the waist down my muscles , joints and bones hurt and I have NO energy! In the beginning I had no energy cause I was not eating enough but now I eat 900 calories a day and at first I had a lot more energy but now I feel drained and have to take mid day naps to get through the day! I have emailed my doctor and he says it sounds like vitamin deficiency and malnutrition! which I don't understand I am starting to think that I shouldn't have had this surgery cause I obviously don't know what I am doing with this whole nutrition thing and the further I go through this process the more confused I am! Everything I am told should work, all my stomach wants to tolerate at this moment is crackers and any dry food similar! when I eat other food like meat I get very nauseas and just don't feel good! I have done excellent in the weight loss aspect from the sleeve and for that I am very grateful but I am scared as for what I have and am doing to my body now!!! I feel like I wanna breakdown and I sooo CONFUSED!Any help offered is very much appreciated! Thank you!

Nervous about taking an NSAID for the first time since surgery!
Strwberriekissesrbetter replied to Strwberriekissesrbetter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AHey David I think you are right my roller skates are definitely gonna get rusty after this fall. as for the NSAIDS I talked 2 the bariatric dept and they said I could try Motrin and I called my PCP and he said 400mg dosage or less, so I started taking children liquid Motrin which helped with the swelling but it seemed to upset my stomach a little right away..But it was worth it 2 get relieve from the swelling! I am hoping to be up and walking in the next couple of days cause I don't wanna be wheeled back in2 group....No more skating for me.LoL...

Nervous about taking an NSAID for the first time since surgery!
So I was feeling really good this week cause I have 224.6lbs and went from a size 42 jeans to a size 22 in women plus size, also I had my 6 month post op visit and it went well. So I decided to try Rollerskating even though I have severe arthritis in both knees, well I got up on the roller skates and was feeling good and go cocky and fell with all my weight on my Right knee in the Chinese split position! I went to the Dr.'s the next morning and was told not only did I sprain my left wrist I have multiple sprains in my right leg and knee with the possibility of torn ligaments and tendons! I have been Icing for 36hours with no relieve from the swelling in fact my knee is the size of my head. I called my bariatric provider and they said to take liquid children Motrin 400mg for 2 days but to be careful and conscience of the possibility of a bleeding ulcer developing! I took my first dose about an hour ago and it made me feel kind of sick to my stomach. I just want to know other peoples reactions they have had to NSAIDS good or bad. any Info would help! Thank you sooo much.....

Not going to be a habbit but when can I have some Pizza?
I had pizza at about 5 months post op and it tasted good but the crust doesn't set well, I try to just eat the toppings and a couple bites of crust! But I have this rule since surgery that if the food make me not feel good than I probably shouldn't be eating it!

Trouble gettin the fluids in
I got sleeved on Oct.26th 2010 and for me the first few months were extremely hard! I had issues with getting dehydrated cause I couldn't get the proper amount of fluids in and I resorted to diluted Gatorade and then I bumped up to straight Gatorade to get the electrolytes through my body also I had a hard time with straight water till I tried the Ice water from star bucks and I swear upon it , it goes down great and I enjoy it, still 6 months out I only get about 50 ounces a day in but I am working on it! I wish you luck...

A little confused!!
So Here I am 6months post op and I go for my monthly refill of prilosec and the pharmacey says it is 2 early 2 fill my perscription again, which puts me in a panic cause no prilosec I dont get 2 eat, and the other is I have 2 deal with my surgeon. he has my perscription saying only need the prilosec 2 times a day at breakfast and before bed which isnt true, have told hime several times take it 3-5 times a day depending on the severity of the heartburn and still he fails to switch it! well 2day he calls me and says I shouldnt be taking more than 2 capsules a day and if I have heartburn in between 2 take tums or malox which neither will work for me for 2 reasons 1, being the prilosec isnt strong enough 2times a day but OTC heartburn meds are gonna help and 2. I cant swallow anything gritty my sleeve has a terrible reaction to ( that is one reason I havent began my vitamins) and stuff that is a thick substance to drink gags me too. So here I am stuck. My surgeon says deal with it and my PCP went ahead and filled my prilosec for 300 capsules a month! The question isnt it better to take the needed amount of acid reflux meds 2 prevent damage or listen 2 the surgeon and end up sick , not eating and being told I am anorexic again not because I want 2 be but because I cant eat from the acid reflux? also there is no severe damage prilosec can do 2 you? right?

I am also learning 2 tolerate some more seasonings besides salt, garlic powder and onion powder, But I am not very daring when it comes to food as I was sick for te first 4 months after surgery!!

Today was kind of a bad day
I felt like I was given an execution date when I was given my surgery date! I never realized until I had to do the 2 week liquid diet before surgery how addicted I was to food! My whole life revolved around food, everything I did, everywhere I went was always about food in some way! I had so many breakdowns before surgery I was a nervous wreck! But I can say I don't regret any of it now! especially since I am down 201lbs I still have 231lbs more to go, But I haven't been this size since junior high and I cant help but smile every time I look at myself in the mirror sometimes I feel giddy like I child! my life is about living now, about fun, friends and family not food and I love it! Good luck too you and I hope all goes well for you..

Hormonal mood swing normal after surgery??
Strwberriekissesrbetter replied to Strwberriekissesrbetter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery StoryI am 31years old and I hope I am not starting the change! My obgyn doesn't think so she said it could be the viamin deficiency and now that I am eating better and starting my vitamins.. I hope this mood swing stuff ends soon, maybe since I hit a Plataeu that will help...thank you for your words...

Hormonal mood swing normal after surgery??
I am a little past 5 months post op and have been extremely hormonal! I am moody, whiny, depressed, anxious and so much more then words can explain! I have been getting hot flashes lately but yet I am always cold! I figure some of it is because I just began my vitamin regiment instead of right after surgery! also I haven't had my monthly friend since the day after surgery the 28th of Oct. and they said that is normal cause I am malnourished ( I am working on that) of course my primary didn't believe I wasn't prego till I did the blood work and my surgeon said it is common for this surgery to throw off your cycle for 6 months to a year. my question is is it normal 2 be extremely hormonal during this weight loss time? I feel like I am a spaz at times any input will help! Thanks..

I just cant get use to eating new food. Any advice
I had my sleeve on Oct.27th 2010 and up until the last few weeks my foods were extremely limited! My stomach wouldn't take any veggies but broccoli and spinach, I became severely lactose intolerant and the only meat I could eat with out vomiting was pork loin baked and that was only 1-maybe 2oz a day for almost 2 months I lived on tangerines( the only thing my stomach would tolerate weird but true) and pork loin! I became malnutrition and vitamin deficient! the Surgeon upped my prilosec to 3 a day but I take on average 4-5 so I can eat! I avoid greasy and spicy but I am eating chicken, turkey lunch meat from the deli cut in shavings, egg beaters and even some dairy now! But I take it very slow when I eat and I listen to my body if within the first bite or 2 my stomach feels funny I quit eating whatever it is and try something different! I wish you luck and hope all goes great for you!!

day after post op psych appt. feeling hopeful..
went to my psych appt. yesterday and he said I have anorexia which I find odd because I am still 381lbs! But he says with my strict eating and severe calorie counting and anxiety about weight gain accompanied by the occasional fasting to up my weight loss that these are all symptoms of anorexia! He says it is not all my fault or in my head and that he figures it began the first month after surgery when I was unable to keep an food down and lost almost 70lbs in one month. He believes my stomach has become accustomed to vomiting and the pain I feel in my stomach is real , so he is gonna get a nutritionist that specializes in anorexia to help me and get me some meds from my surgeon to help with my stomach so I can finally Begin taking my vitamins and take in he proper amount of protein a day! also he believes I have a fear of eating due to the severe vomiting I have had in the past which makes total sense to me.. I am happy that I made the decision to go to my appt. yesterday and I for once in 3 months feel hopeful on feeling better and having more energy along with being healthy and weight loss..

Scarred about my 1st after surgery psych appt.
so here I am four plus months post op and I am going to see a psychologist cause my surgeon thinks I have an eating disorder cause I am afraid of food. does anyone blame me? I didn't get to 565lbs having a good relationship with food! so in a simple sentence I don't trust myself with food! I keep me eating very simple I don't try things that may taste good cause I don't wanna know I can eat it! I have about 12 foods I eat and that's it and that's all I need. I know I need to up my protein cause I only get about 25-30grams a day and I need at least 70 grams cause my hair is beginning to let me know! as for my food I eat nothing but protein (pork ,chicken and beans). I know I have gotten really bad about calorie counting but like I said I will never trust myself with food! I told the nutritionist food is like when you have a bad relationship for years when it is over it is over, you want nothing to do with it she said that is a bad way to look at it and I said yeah right you weigh like 3lbs you have no Idea of what I have been through.. they say my attitude is negative I say it is not negative at life but toward them micro managing me and every time I see them they always make me feel terrible and unaccomplished. so back to the topic I am very nervous about this appt. because lately I have been trying to figure out why I got to be 565lbs and I though I knew why before surgery I thought I was just a gluten and over indulger but it turns out that may have been like 5% of it and I have no idea what the rest is. I know now when it comes to my eating I like the control factor of me being able to tell my body no and you can wait and having that control! I am so afraid of what they are gonna pull out of me and I am scarred of breaking down cause I wanna be strong not weak but this today is really gonna test me. sorry for venting but I am nervous, scarred and confused....

Food amounts by time
I am only 3 and a half months post op but I find it hard to eat anything till the evening around 6ish. I make myself eat a piece of fruit in the morning around 10am and maybe some cheese in the afternoon.. but in the evening I really have no problem. I can only eat small amounts so I eat dinner in 3 sessions so I can get at least 3oz of chicken or pork in plus a veggie. my surgeon doesnt see a problem with me breaking my meals up but also I am only eating 4-500 calories a day. if that. Wish I could help more....

Hairloss
I am 3 and a half months post op and I am also having hair loss. Everyone says they don't see it but I do! I notice the amount of hair in the drain when I shampoo and the amount in my brush when I comb it. I have even resorted to tons of hair serums so it doesn't tangle and make me have to rip out more hair when I brush. I wear the wet curly look so I don't have to comb as often and I am so scarred to go bald.. I had really long thick hair before surgery now it is long and not thin but not thick.I know I don't get all my protein in but I don't think I ate that much protein before surgery either.... I don't know.. all I do know is I am loving the results I am seeing from this surgery so I guess it will fix itself in the end...
