GAINING weight on protein shakes only pre-op??
Similar thing happened to me. I have been weighing myself daily while on preop diet for motivation. One day the scale was up 2 pounds and the next day it was down by 3. Go figure. I would check your shakes though, make sure they are appropriate for weight loss. Also, could your time of the month be coming? I always gain a few days before that. Hang in there!

Broth.....ick ?
So just like I sampled different Protein shakes so that when the time came and I needed them I wouldnt be gagging, I decided to sample some broth for my first few days post op (and that one day right before op). Gaaaaaag!! I have tried 3 different kinds and they are so gross. I tried 2 different kinds of chickrn and 1 brand beef. Dont laugh but one of the chicken (it was one from a box) smelled like urine. I could not get over it. Can someone tell me a good brand? Or am I worried about nothing bc I wont really need it? I really want to make sure i get enough protein. J

Liquid Diet Before Lap Band Surgery?
Leisha, i can sooo relate. I am preop, no more than 30 carbs. I have sat and watched people eat cake, ice cream sundaes, bought my DH mexican but the dr pepper tempts me the most! Ahhhhhhhhhh! I want a soda sooo bad right now. But they are a no no from my dr both pre op and post op so oh well. One day we will just not miss our soda anymore. At least I hope so. J

When should I switch doctors?
I was in the exact same situation. I did as sweetpea advised and called my ins co and they said to have the new dr submit the request. Thats what I did and was approved in 3 days. J

Pre op diet starts tomorrow
So, title says it all. Tomorrow I start preop diet. My diet is not liquid, so that is a plus. I have to stay under 30 carbs a day. I did a couple of "trial runs" last week and although I have done low carb diets in the past I never realized how restrictive 30 carbs is. One day I only ate veggies and Protein and went to 40. Guess if it gets tough I can just come here and realize that it could be so much worse...i could be on nothing but Protein shakes. Take care, J

Please Help!!
I'd take a pregnancy test. Not to scare you but the EXACT same thing happened to me with my first son. Thought it was a period, but it was a weird one, come to find out dr suspected it was implantation bleeding (i believe thats what its called) where the egg attaches to the uterus after fertilization. I was only having slight nausea aka morning sickness in the early am and my weird period. I eventually had other symptoms too. Good luck to you! J

Lapband complications section of the board
Let me start off by saying that I dislike going to that area of the board, however as a prebander I feel it is necessary to hear the good, bad and ugly about this from all view points. However, I have noticed that a lot of people begin having problems years out and dont immediately seek medical care from their surgeon. They live with problems for months and then finally decide to go back to the dr. I guess my question is to those of you that are a success story -- how often do you see your surgeon? My surgeon requires monthly visits for the first yr - regardless of if you want/need a fill. After 1 yr post op your follow up visits are up to you but it must be at least once a yr. So my response to him was "so i can come monthly for the rest of my life?" he said yes. I look at my relationship with my surgeon as one i will have forever. Perhaps all newbies think like that though, then they make it to goal, life get in the way and before you know it you havent seen your doc in 2 yrs. My dr did say that while the majority of his long term post op patients dont come in monthly they do come in regularily-- quarterly, every other month, etc. But when i think about it how does he know the success of the other patients if they dont come in? If i end up having problems with my band i dont want it to be because of something i did. I want to follow the rules and to me regular follow ups with your dr is part of the rules.

Saying goodbye to food/Night time eating question.
Who is in your house? The reason i ask is bc if the bad food never comes in then you cant eat it. Dh and i made a deal. He goes to the store and buys his own junk and then it goes into a solid colored large container in the pantry. I cant see it and i dont open it. I havent even seen him eating it so i think hes doing it when im not around. At night i have sf jello and then i go brush my teeth. And i also felt the need to have all of my fav foods. I decided about 2 wks ago to get into band mode as i am getting banded next month.

Approval - 5 yr Weight History - UHC
I have uhc but didnt have to submit 5 yr weight history. Ive heard uhc is one of the better ins co to deal with. They accepted 6 mos of WW records as my 6 mos medically supervised diet. Try not to worry
