- Day 4 after surgery HELP
Hi! Gas pains are normal and believe it or not, desired! They pump you full of gas to open up the abdomen area, so they can see what they are doing during the laproscopic surgery. The only way the pain will subside is IF you pass gas! I am on day 5 post surgery! I still have pain, mostly in my left shoulder. Thank god my doctor gave me vicodin to ease the pain (it also helps me if I lay down with a hot pad to the painful area). If your doc did not prescribe liquid pain meds for you, call them immediately and ask for it. Yesterday, I opted to change from vicodin to liquid tylinol, because my pain was subsiding, and the vicodin was a contributing factor to my constipation. Are you having PAIN "from the other end" or gas? If it's vaginal pain affiliated with not urinating much, I would definitely call the doc with that question as well. My doc wants me to drink 48-64 oz. of Water a day, and drink 60-80 grams of Protein a day. That adds up to a lot of liquid, and you would think, a lot of urinating. But in thinking about it, I have been urinating about 3 or 4 times a day. Good luck to you. Hope you post again saying all is getting better and better for you.- Very Anxious Newbie!
I was just like you! Lost and gained on Weight Watchers two times. It's a great program, but like ANY diet, we gain it back. I got banded three days ago. I am so positive about it! The reason I think we gain back after diets is that we can't keep the weight off forever cause under normal circumstances, we get HUNGRY, and we can't diet forever. I am already seeing how the lap band makes me feel satisfied with little intake. I know it is just from the post surgery stomach swelling right now, but once the band it tightened, it will be even better! I can see how eventually, I will be able to eat ANYTHING, only in very small amounts, but feel satisfied and never deprived! Good luck to you! Losing like you have done on WW, you are a PERFECT candidate for the lap band!- no more meat...
Sounds like a great easy yummy sauce for fish! Thank you! Any other easy yummy recipes? I was banded 3 days ago. Doing great, but looking forward to next week when I can start on real food!- no more meat...
First of all, congratulations on your amazing weight loss! Secondly, thank you for the wonderful sauce recipe. I love fish, and this seems like it would be a great FF sauce. Any other favorite recipes?? I was banded 3 days ago. Doing well on the liquid diet. But looking forward to Thursday, when I get to start the puree diet, which means I can also eat flaky fish, eggs and cottage. What a treat! Continued good luck to you!- Any May 2011 Banders?
Haven't heard that before. Thanks!- Any May 2011 Banders?
Sending positive thoughts your way for Thursday! You and I are going to be banded on the same day! I am very impressed that you have been on the liquid diet since May 2nd! You have a strict doctor! Super good luck to you that you can finally get banded on Thursday. Looking forward to your subsequent posts.- Any May 2011 Banders?
What a long journey we go through to get to this point. I go the day after you! Good luck to you! I'll be interested in reading your day to day entries to see what I have to look forward to each day!- Any May 2011 Banders?
Well, your surgery should be over by now. How did it go? Today is the first day of the rest of your life! I get banded day after tomorrow in Sacramento, CA. But I'm originally from Ontario, Canada! Best of luck to you. Keep posting how it is going!- Any May 2011 Banders?
Congrats! How are you feeling? I'm getting banded day after tomorrow. Any words of advice for the first week?- Any May 2011 Banders?
Well, knowledge is power! It's good to know all the possibilities. Remember, there are sooo many people getting the lap band. I'm betting most only have mild uncomfortableness, and then, for such a short period of time. I think of it as MAYBE a little pain or discomfort in exchange for a way more positive life, and a way more bitchen bod! (now I'm showing my age!) And there are several posts where they say they are experiencing mild discomfort, are doing fine the next day, etc. I am 62 and getting the band May 26th. My friend, age 63, got the band 6 months ago. She was fine from the day of surgery on, except the port was a little infected, which antibiotics cured in no time. She has dropped from a size 20 to a size 14!!! Good luck to you! I'm sure you will do super! Looking forward to your posts after the surgery!- Any May 2011 Banders?
Thanks. I've got the liquid pain meds. Says it is orange flavored?! But like you, I don't care as long as it helps with the pain. My sister is a nurse and she will be staying with me for a couple of days. Nice to be a little pampered out of the deal, too! So have you gotten on the scale?? I get on the scale every day cause I am so concerned I might gain before the surgery. My doc didn't make me do the liquid diet before surgery! I am maintaining fine. In fact, have lost about 5 lbs! But we all know how to lose, right? It's the keeping off part that I am soooo looking forward to. No more saving the "other-sized" clothes in the other closet! And even though I am old, I am so looking forward to wearing stylish clothes again, and even heels again! OK, maybe wedgies! Keep posting updates. Super good luck to you!!!- Any May 2011 Banders?
Congrats on having the smarts to do the banding early in life! I'm an oldie moldie and have been yoyo-ing all my life. Can hardly wait to be banded next Thursday! How are you doing with the band? Any tips, oh now wise and experienced one?! :-)- Any May 2011 Banders?
So you were banded on Monday! How are you feeling? What favorite things are you eating....or should I say drinking?- Any May 2011 Banders?
Hi, Weesie, congrat on your date! I haven't use True Results protein. How much is it? Do you like it? Is it liquid or powder? I have used Unjury powder, and also GNC powder. I got the Unjury on line for $18-20 each (16.2 oz each), plus $6 shipping for the three. So I guess that averages to about $21 each container. I got the GNC 100% whey protein powder (16 oz) at a GNC store in the mall. It was $22, but was buy one, get one half off. So that turned out cheaper than the Unjury...came to about $17 each. All of them taste great when blended with non-fat milk and ice. I also have put it in my coffee and like it. Just got to mix it alot.- Any May 2011 Banders?
Thanks for the info on your frst day! My surgery is next week. Looking forward to your daily entries, as I am not far behind you. Congrats! Good luck!- Any May 2011 Banders?
I just figured out how to add friends, so I added you. In doing so, I read your comment that you aren't telling anyone except your husband. I have told all my family and close friends, but have not said anything to casual friends. My close people know what a battle this has been for me, but I feel like the others will view the band as an easy way out (ha!). I shouldn't care how they view it, but I guess it bothers me enough to not tell them! I will be interested in seeing how that aspect goes for you, too. Again, super good luck today!- Any May 2011 Banders?
Positive thoughts your way today! Looking forward to your upcoming posts.- Any May 2011 Banders?
You have already lost 20 pounds before your band! What a great start! I'm sure today will go great for you! Looking forward to your recording your experiences-- I am right behind you...my surgery is May 26th.- Any May 2011 Banders?
My date is May 26th, too! I can hardly wait to be one of the post-banders! It's so helpful reading other bander's experiences. Friends and family are being very supportive, but this site completes my support group perfectly!...contact with people going through the same physical and emotional experiences! Best of luck to you!- Any May 2011 Banders?
Super good luck! I go the day before you.- Any May 2011 Banders?
Best of luck to you tomorrow! I'd check about the 4 weeks of liquid only after surgery. It does sound a little excessive. I get my surgery May 26. I only have to do the liquid for one week post surgery, then graduated "thickness" each week after that. Looking forward to hearing how the surgery goes for you, your experiences after that! Positive thoughts coming your way!- Any May 2011 Banders?
Well, the fastest way is to pay cash! But if you are doing it the insurance way, you've got to jump through the hoops....my hoops included 6 months of meetings, 3 physical therapy appts., 3 psych appts, and multiple blood tests, a chest x-ray and EKG....and I am healthy! It's just what my insurance co. (Blue Shield) and/or my medical group (Mercy Med Group in Sacramento) requires. But as frustrating and unnecessary as it all is, the time actually comes. My surgery is scheduled for May 26th! So hang in there, and try not to get discouraged. Good luck!- Any May 2011 Banders?
