  1. Help! Has anyone been able to get plication surgery even if they have a haital hernia? Medical team for Dr Corvala want to deny this because of the hernia and do a lap band instead. Dr. Watson has said he expects his overweight patients to have these and they are routinely repaired. I had an upper endoscopy which showed not pathology, just the hernia. My customer service rep had gotten an agreement that if I had no erosion or Barretts that the plication would go ahead. He's not longer with the company! Please tell me - does Corvala refuse plication because of hiatal hernia?
  2. I'm having surgery Thursday too! Nervous? You bet!
  3. Hi everyone, I'm going to have plication surgery this Thursday with Dr. Corvala. I chose him because of his experience, skill, and reputation. Also, since I'm 63 I thought surgery in a fully equipped hospital would be a good idea. Dr. Watkins also seems like an excellent choice but I'm too old for his program! Oh the pain of rejection! He has good reasons for his age limit at this time because his patients don't stay in the hospital (currently, maybe they will later). The age thing is funny. I don't think I'm any older than the rest of you, but I guess I am. Any comments from older patients? I suspect I won't bounce back quite as soon as when I was younger. I'm kinda having fun telling people I'm going to Tijuana for surgery! They think it's insane until I explain my reasoning and research. All of my doctors are supportive. My primary care doc went to a medical conference in Hawaii last week. Gastric plication was presented as a new and better bariatric option. She learned that plication patients have a reduction of hunger hormones that are similar to bypass patients. Anyhow, she's all for it!
  4. I'm so glad this forum is here - this is my first entry. I was all set to have gastric plication last week but came down with a mystery rash. The dermatologist took a biopsy thinking it looked like a problem (I'm 63 and a cancer survivor) and said that I shouldn't have elective surgery until this cleared up. Well, it cleared up quickly but I put off my trip to Mexico for surgery. I've rescheduled for Feb. 17th. Meanwhile, having been really ready then - now I'm in a real funk. Not eating right, feeling depressed, and not taking such great care of myself. I've had lots of diet defeats and that's what this feels like. Nothing like a setback to set you back! I'm pretty good at knowing what to do - eat right and exercise and do thinks that make me happy - but I'm feeling stuck. I guess the time involved in coming to a decision about surgery and making the investment in doing it is emotionally powerful and the delay kind of took the wind out of my sails. My surgery is in Tijuana with Dr. Corvala at Hospital Angeles on 2/17. Will I see any of you there?
