Are you self-filling? Are you considering self-filling?

I would like to know how this works:smile2:

I use my meat injector to self fill all the time. I fill it when I need to and unfill it when I wanna party. Whaooo

I fill it with whatever I have on hand. In Nov. I had the garlic butter sauce for the turkey, so I just went ahead and used it. Why waste?

First I rub an ice cube on my port area, then I rub some oragel on it. Then I let my hubby inject me cause I just can't do it myself.

I do admit the needle is way big. One time I actually had to give myself one stitch to close the hole on my tummy. I used some dental floss.

The tip of needle the doctor uses for fills is bent. I did have to take the meat injector needle and bend it before I used it. I took it outside and pushed it down on the cement till it bent.

This self fill method is really working for me. For Christmas I filled it with rum sauce from my bread pudding.

Wow -- thanks! My first fill is scheduled for next week. I read your directions to my husband. He doesn't think it will be a problem, so I guess I can go ahead and cancel my fill appointment. Just wondering, since I live by the beach, what do you think about a margarita fill?

Oh definitely, you'd love it. I swear when I haven't eaten in awhile I can taste the rum sauce. However, Margarita might be a little too acidic. You've got to be really careful with this. I mean hell this band cost me 15 thousand dollars, I'm not crazy. Strawberry Daquiri might be better. Don't do frozen thou, that would hurt.

Way too dangerous.

Never! Not only could you hurt yourself, but you risk tearing the port's skin. Then you would require another surgery. Why risk your health and your band?

I REALLY hope you are kidding. Garlic butter sauce and rum to do a fill with? I would NEVER try this and hope no one does. This sounds like the worst advice I have read since I have been on this site. Dont get me wrong, if you are bold enough to try this without even thinking about the damage you could be doing to your band, the port and your body then "have at it". But I would never put my body in jeopardy bu even thinking of such a thing.

Not only is this sad but also quite dangerous. And to think, someone would take this advise seriously and actually think of trying it. lol Now thats funny!

There are some WLS banders that do their own fills. Of course they are not doing butter rum or garlic sauce that was posted as comical relief to a serious topic (which I am still LOL!!!)

But recently, I have read threads on this forum, in which people are self-filling. I suspect they are nurses or in the medical field. You really need to know what your doing, because as other posters noted already, you don't want to jeopardize the band or your health.

I tryed the meat injector needle as you recomended , However the needle was too long and poked all the through me and into my moms new leather couch, I strongly recomend against self fills, You to could ruin your moms couch.

All I can say to this is WOW!!!!!!:thumbup: I would definitely be to scared to try this at home............I think some things are better left to the professionals??:thumbup:

My Dr is giving me a needle in case of an emergency when I travel to West Africa in April. I just don't know if I could use it. I have to get detailed instructions from him next visit.
