Really!?!?

I am very early in this weight loss surgery process. I'm going to have my first weigh-in on Thursday after being on a required weight loss plan for the past month. Needless to say, I'm hungry! This afternoon, I needed to go to the CVS drug store that's about four miles from my house. Remember that I said I was hungry? This is a list of what I had to pass on my way to CVS: 2 fast food taco places, 5 hamburger places, 4 pizza ones, 3 Mexican restaurants, 2 donut shops, 2 Subway sandwich places, a deli restaurant, 2 Chinese restaurants (one a buffet), a steak house, a sports grill, a fried chicken place, an Italian restaurant, a Starbucks, A BBQ place and a wine bar. Behind the CVS, there is another pizza place and another Mexican restaurant. And I had to go past them all again to get home. This is just ONE street!!! It's no wonder I'm in the shape I'm in!! However, I will say that I didn't stop at any of them. I came home and had a Protein shake and a forth cup of almonds. But I really, REALLY want a Whataburger!

It's great living in the boonies. Besides a subway inside the gas station, there is not a single fast food restaurant in the whole county!

That does have its advantages. :)

Once I'm home it's no problem cause we're 30 minutes from ANYTHING. But getting to & from work going through "town" is a nightmare!

It was a lot harder to avoid temptation before surgery. Post-surgery? I'm ultra-sensitive to smells right now, and the smell of most restaurants make me really nauseous. Which I suppose is a good thing...I rarely have cravings. I think the only thing I've had a real craving for since the surgery was Chinese food (I walked by one on my way home to lunch...but I was only a week out at that point so it was easy to avoid), and for tortilla chips when I was dishing them up for the kids last night.

I haven't done well with anything that has a strong flavor or scent. (including too-sweet Protein shakes)

@Chelly that's so stupid...the vending machines here at work are the same...but it's work not a work out place! GEEZ! I have asked that they put in raw almonds (3 months ago)... no luck... but one would think healthy alternatives should be in ALL vending machines... maybe we can start a "movement" for that! ;)

Food is the drug we can't quit.

Anyone try hypnosis to avoid the candy temptation?

My surgeons office is on Fast Food ally, McDonald, Wendys, Pizza places, Ihop, Diners and his office is in between the pizza restaurant and KFC LOL!!

Doesn't it feel good to just drive on by????

I remember commenting to my hubby that I thought he had filled in the local tv network of my upcoming revision last July. They had purposely put every single commercial a food commercial (at least that's what it seemed) when all I could have was full liquids. MnM's never looked so good in my life as they did when I couldn't chew anything...

Good job not giving into temptation. Thats the way the food situation is in So Ca also - except there'd be about 6 Starbucks in the 4 miles on the way to somewhere...

@marfar7 I live about a mile from where they make M&M's, Sometimes in the morning the whole town smells like chocolate!

I wondered where the M&Ms were made! If I detour around to CVS to miss all the food joints, I have to pass the Mars plant where they make Snickers, Starburst and Skittles. It's reached the point when I pass the plant, I can tell by the smell if they are making Skittles or Starburst. We mainly get the Snickers smell at late at night. The chocolate gets going at about 8 PM.

Heavenly! So much better than a pulp mill!

@Mommabird

Every pack of M&M's you'll ever see will have "Hackettstown NJ" on the back!

They have been made here since 1958.

Wow! I'll have to look next time I'm talking myself out of buying some. I know that the plant here makes around 85% of all snickers bars (but no snack size ones) and it's the only place that Skittles and Starburst are made. During the hottest part of the summer, it can make you queasy driving past because that sweet, fruity smell is over whelming. Personally, I'd rather smell chocolate!

Sometimes food even shows up in the mail unannouced. Two days ago a box arrived in the mail from my company. We've just gone through a big merger and they sent "appreciation" gifts out. I opened the box and there was a really nice insulated drink bottle -- great -- Protein shakes, flavored Water... good deal. Then there was another box about 8 inches by 8 inches with a big bow on it. I opened it up and dropped it like it was full of snakes. It had M&Ms, Twizzlers, chocolate covered sunflowers, popcorn, pretzels and some other things in it. I immediately gave it to my 2 teenaged boys who can afford the extra calories. It wasn't really tempting because I'm only 10 days out and on full liquids but GEEZ.... what a scare!
