Dr. James D. Atkinson, Bariatric Surgeon James D. Atkinson, MD, FACS is the Medical Director of Surgical Weight Control Center of Nevada. Under his direction and leadership, his center is recognized as the best bariatric program in Nevada and has earned a top 5% ranking in the nation by HealthGrades Report. Board-certified and a native of Las Vegas, Dr. Atkinson began his professional career at Portland State University where he received his bachelor's degree. He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Nevada. He completed his residency training at the University Medical Center of Las Vegas where he trained in bariatric surgery, trauma surgery, and served as chief resident in surgery. He then received specialized training in advanced laparoscopy. Dr. Atkinson is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and the Manatee County Medical Society. Dr. Atkinson’s expertise and dedication to bariatric surgery led him to become a valued consultant for Ethicon Endo-Surgery. He has received numerous awards and recognitions including induction into the distinguished medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha, being featured in MD News and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and recognized as one of America’s Top Surgeons.
