Dr. Raper is an associate professor of surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois School of Medicine and completed his residency in general surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Raper joined Penn Medicine in 1993. He helped originate the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Raper also served as chief of surgery at the Philadelphia Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center and interim chief of surgery at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. His clinical specialties include operations for morbid obesity and the surgical management of patients with post-operative complications. Dr. Raper is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
