About Stephen Burpee

Stephen Burpee, MD, FACS joined Southern Arizona Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery as a partner in 2003 contributing to the development of the Surgical Weight Loss Program at Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. He currently serves as the Bariatric Department Medical Director at Northwest Medical Center. He is also a native of Canada and received his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Burpee's surgical residency was performed at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and his subsequent fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery was performed at the University of Toronto. He also obtained additional training in laparoscopic bariatric surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and spent time as a research fellow in the department of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He has many publications in the area of Minimally Invasive Surgery and has special interest in diseases of the gastroesophageal junction, colorectal disease and the surgical management of morbid obesity.
