Robert Wegner, MD

The Saint Francis Center for Surgical Weight Loss was thrilled to add Dr. Wegner to the program in 2010. Since then, he has performed over 900 laparoscopic bariatric procedures. He has been routinely recognized for his bedside manner and medical skill and received October’s Physician of the Month award. Patients often describe Dr. Wegner as going above and beyond to ensure their comfort and the success of their procedure. One such patient recently commentated: “He is a great physician to work with! He is compassionate and displays a sense of ownership.” Another patient adds, “Dr. Wegner checks on his patients when he is at home. He always has his patients’ best interests at heart.” He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the American University of the Caribbean. He completed his surgical residency at the University of Illinois, Mt. Sinai program in Chicago and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He then continued on and completed a fellowship certified by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the recognized birthplace of bariatric surgery. Along with Dr. Wegner's extensive surgical training, he is also a certified personal trainer and former Gold's Gym owner with over twenty years of experience in the fitness industry. He has dedicated his life to helping others by educating them about the benefits of exercise and nutrition. Dr. Wegner is a compassionate surgeon with life experience that gives him a unique insight into the challenges that a weight loss surgery patient faces.
