Arthur Chasen, MD

Dr. Arthur Chasen is a bariatric and weight loss surgeon located in and affiliated with Trinity Hospital of Augusta. Dr. Chasen has 16 years of experience performing Lap-Band and other weight loss surgery. Currently 6 of our members have Dr. Chasen listed as their Lap Band Surgeon.

Dr. Chasen graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, class of 1985. In 1992, after an initial tour as an Infantry Officer, he earned his Medical Doctorate from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences at Bethesda, MD. He went on to serve as an Army Flight Surgeon prior to completing his General Surgery Residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI, in 1999. Dr Chasen was reassigned to Fort Sill, OK where he served as Chief of General Surgery and progressed to Chief of Surgery, serving in that position until his departure in 2003. Upon completion of combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, he became Assistant Residency Director, Director of Surgical Research, and the first Chief of Bariatric Surgery at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, GA. In early 2009, Dr. Chasen completed his career with the United States Army and entered into a civilian private practice in Augusta, GA. Dr. Chasen specializes in Minimally Invasive Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Trauma and Critical Care. He is recognized as one of the region’s pioneers of the Laparoscopic Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. Dr. Chasen is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery. Additionally, he is a member of the American Medical Association, the Georgia Medical Association, and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.
