Patrick J. Coates, MD, FACS Bariatric Surgeon, Bariatric Program Medical Director Dr. Patrick Coates is a board certified general surgeon. He graduated from medical school at Autonomous University of Guadalajara in 1978. Dr. Coates completed his general surgery residency through the University of California School of Medicine, San Francisco's Fresno-Central San Joaquin Valley Medical Education Program at Valley Medical Center in Fresno. Dr. Coates has extensive experience in general and weight loss surgery. His bariatric scope of practice includes laparoscopic gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy, revision and duodenal switch surgeries. Dr. Coates has more than seven years of experience performing weight loss surgery. Dr. Coates is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), American College of Surgery and the Stanislaus Medical Society. In addition, Dr. Coates is the Memorial Medical Center Bariatric Program Medical Director. Dr. Coates has performed more than 4,300 bariatric surgeries to date. Dr. Coates is the Director of bariatrics at Damron.n
