Christopher Cobourn, M.D.
A fellowship-trained General Surgeon, Dr. Chris Cobourn has received extensive training in the use and placement of the Lap-Band and Gastric Balloon. In 1991, he introduced laparoscopic surgery to the Mississauga area, and since then has been focusing his time and practice on advanced laparoscopic surgery. Currently, he is a General Surgeon at Trillium Health Center and the Medical Director of the SmartShape Weight Loss Centre - A Division of Centric Health in Mississauga.
His expertise in advanced laparoscopic procedures include Lap-Band surgery, sleeve gastrectomy, mini gastric bypass, gallbladder removal, hernia repair, advanced bowel surgery and spleen removal. In addition, he also specializes in Surgical Oncology, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery and has full hospital privileges at the Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga.
As an internationally respected and sought after speaker, Dr. Cobourn is honored to receive the opportunity to speak to the medical community on various topics regarding obesity and weight loss programs offered at SmartShape. In 2011, he was invited to speak at the two most prestigious international obesity conferences, the 2nd Annual Obesity Summit and the XVI World Congress of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders in Hamburg, Germany and continues to speak an National and International meetings. Currently, he is serving on expert committees and panels to establish worldwide standards and practices for bariatric surgery.
