About Matthew Brengman
Dr. Brengman began performing open Gastric Bypass in 2001 and soon after trained under Dr. Gregory Schroder in laparoscopic Gastric Bypass. He cofounded the laparoscopic bariatric program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center with Dr. Kim Marley. In 2004, Dr Brengman moved to Richmond, VA, joining Dr. Schroder and an established bariatric program. He served as medical director of the Bon Secours Richmond Bariatric Program from December 2010-December 2012. Both Dr Brengman and Schroder joined Advanced Surgical Partners of Virginia, which is where they currently practice.
Dr Brengman is certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeon and The American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is the past-president of the Virginia Bariatric Society and current Chair of the ASMBS insurance committee. He is currently the Medical Director for the Parham Doctors Hospital Bariatric Program in Richmond, VA.
In 2003, Dr. Brengman served with the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his actions.
