About Stephen Hamn

Dr. Stephen Hamn is board certified and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Hamn is also a member of the American Medical Association,Texas Association for Bariatric Surgery,Obesity Action Coalition, Texas Medical Association, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons,American Society of General Surgeons, and Collin County Medical Society. He specializes in general surgery,laparascopic, and open weight loss surgery in Plano, Frisco, and Garland Texas. He went to Texas A&M undergraduate graduating in 3 years Magna Cum Laude. He attended University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio and University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri for residency in general surgery. He joined the Air Force achieving the rank of Major. While there, he served as part of the E.L.I.T.E.team; a trauma rescue group, and was co-comander of the air transportable hospital. He also trained to become a Flight Surgeon and flew combat missions with the Air Force pilots. Arriving in Dallas in 1992, he saw a need for bariatric surgeons and was involved in the initial programs for bariatric surgery in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Dr. Hamn has been on the forefront of bariatrics ever since. He is regarded as an expert in the field of weight loss surgery and was the second surgeon in Dallas to offer lap bands and added gastric sleeve early after the data became available. Dr. Hamn is one of a select few surgeons in the United States to perform the Lap Band, Realize Band, Laparascopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, Laparascopic Gastric Bypass ( Roux-en-y), open Roux-en-y, and general surgery. He continues to stongly support the field of bariatrics and was an early member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons. He has also served as Chief of Surgery at Presbyetrian Hospital of Plano. Dr. Hamn was voted one of D magazine best bariatric surgeon 2006, 2007, & 2008. In his free time he enjoys playing the guitar, running, and movies. He also started flying in the Air Force and continues to maintain advanced ratings in multiple aircrafts. Dr. Hamn is an avid animal lover and supports numerous animal charities. He is a contributer to the arts and has been part of mission trips providing surgical care in underdeveloped countries.
