About Michel Stephan

Michel K. Stephan, M.D., F.A.C.S., a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, specializes in bariatric surgery, providing patients with weight loss surgery options, including adjustable gastric banding and vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG). Dr. Stephan completed his General Surgery Residency at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, Pennsylvania / Temple University School of Medicine Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1980. He completed a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1981. He has been in pricate practice in Mesquite, Texas since 1981.

Dr. Stephan considers weight loss surgery to be one of the most beneficial and rewarding operations a surgeon can perform. The possibility of helping patients to cure or significantly improve their obesity related conditions such as hypertension, diabetes or sleep apnea, as well as adding years to their longevity is tremendously fulfilling. During his career, he has maintained experience in all aspects of general surgery including thyroid, breast surgery, gallbladder, gastrointestinal and colon cancer surgery. However, his keenest interest has been to embrace the tremendous benefits of advanced laparoscopy for virtually all abdominal operations.

Dr. Stephan is a member of several medical organizations including the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons, Fellow American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association and Texas Medical Association.

About this directory profile

What does a directory listing mean?

A listing helps you find practice information and member experiences. It does not establish clinical quality, current credentials, or availability.

How do I use member reviews?

Read the date and the details of each experience. Reviews are personal accounts. They do not predict your results or replace a clinical consultation.

What if a detail is missing or outdated?

Ask the practice for current information. Use “Suggest an update” on the surgeon profile to report a correction to BariatricPal.
