Band being taken out due to "pseudo-achalasia"
I had the band placed on March 10, 2011. Now, I will be having the band removed and will be undergoing the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on March 16, 2015. That is very soon! My history: The band worked very well for about three years. Then changes in my esophagus were noted on the Barium Swallow tests, and that was followed by band unfills, more Barium Swallow Testing, band refills, more Barium Swallow Testing and on and on and repeated for about a year. Now it is clear to both my surgeon and to me that the band must come out as it is not restricting my intake with the unfills and my esophagus issues arise when I get fills. I put on a significant amount of weight that I had previously lost with a working band. My hope is to utilize the sleeve procedure to lose that weight and more, to reach my goal weight! I hope that others who are facing the same issues will chime in. In any case, best of luck to all who will be undergoing band to sleeve revisions. ~~ Barbara

My Revision Surgery from the Band to the Sleeve
Hi Kelly, It took me a while to find it, but I think this is the forum we need for band to sleeve revision information and questions. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/394-band-to-gastric-sleeve-revisions/ I hope this is helpful. See you in the forum!

Brooklyn Area Woman Seeking to Meet Bariatric "Fellow"
Hi Hoven, My date for the revision from the band to the sleeve is Monday, March 16th. My band was placed back in March of 2011. I'm using the same surgeon I used before, at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. The hospital is affiliated with New York Presbyterian. I know we'll both be in competent hands. Wishing you the best in your journey.

Brooklyn Area Woman Seeking to Meet Bariatric "Fellow"
Hi, I'd love to see what we have in common surgery-wise as well as apart from surgery. (I'm being sleeved in March 2015, a revision surgery from the band that was placed in March 2011.) When I'm sufficiently recovered, I would welcome the opportunity to meet up in the borough. Let's go for a walk, a light-bite, or a cup of coffee and discuss our surgeries and more!

My Revision Surgery from the Band to the Sleeve
Hi, First of all, where do I go to change myself from still being identified as a "Newbie?" Thank you. Secondly, I'm having revision surgery from the lap band (placed in March 10, 2011) to the vertical gastric sleeve (March 16, 2015.) I started to have band complications three years out from that surgery. I re-gained a significant amount of weight, which I now hope to re-lose. Plus, there is even more weight to be lost past those gains. The sleeve will be my new weight loss tool. I'm excited for the surgery but also well aware that revision surgery comes with more complications than a single surgical procedure. That said, I'm optimistic for a safe surgery and for a positive outcome all around. I will keep you all posted....????

Judy: It's normal to be somewhat nervous. Just take it day by day, shake by shake, sip by sip! I agree that you will do fine. You presumably researched this decision well, and all will go your way. This is not to say that there may be some setbacks or small inconveniences along the way. Overall, though, I'm sure you'll be happy with your decision. A bit about me: I'm seeing my surgeon early in January. I'm still hoping to have my lap band revised to a sleeve. I had to have the Fluid taken out of my band, and my weight is uuuuppp! Best to you and to all of the NYC/LI group! ~~ Barbara

So glad to hear you are doing well. Small steps and small sips are the way to go! BTW, I was scheduled for sleeve surgery today, but the surgeon has put it on hold (perhaps to January 2015.) He gave me a small fill when I last saw him, and I hope to drop some more pounds by using the band as a friendly tool. I hope I can do it. If not...revision surgery is in my future.

I will be less than one week out from my revision surgery (October 20th) so I'll sadly have to pass on this meeting. I soooo wish I could attend as I really liked the last meeting (my 1st meeting.) See you all next time around in NYC. And sending my best to Jyoyonomore as her surgery is coming up even sooner than mine!

Maybe we can have a meeting somewhere in Brooklyn at some point. It seems that at least myself, BloomingLotus and Sleeve_Sistah85 are all from Brooklyn, and there may be even more of us. Just a thought.... My best to everyone, especially to the two of us who will be sleeved this month, but also to those who are still completing their 6-months of testing, etc. and to those who have already been banded, sleeved or whatever. I really appreciated the August meeting, and I look forward to our next gathering. BTW, I've updated my user name from bandeee to sleeveee to reflect my upcoming revision surgery, but it's still me!

Hi to those I met in August as well. Congrats Jyoyonomore! (Apologies that I don't recall your given name.) I am also getting excited because I had the band in 2011, if you recall my story. I had some complications with my esophagus, and I've put on weight since having had my band unfilled. But, I'm having revision surgery on October 20th from the band to the VSG!
