  1. Hello there!! I'm not sure what part of DFW you live in, but I am going to Dr. David Kim. I haven't been banded as of yet, but I have been going to his Colleyville office for my supervised weight loss. My insurance (Cigna) requires 6 months of a doctor supervised weight loss attempt/education. Dr. Kim is very experienced in performing WLS. When I went for my consultation, he really listened to me regarding the surgery I wanted. His staff is very helpful and educated. I think he has performed WLS surgery on a few of the ladies in his office. I also went and looked up everything I could about him and his practice. Everything I found was extremely favorable. A co-worker, of my husband, is getting ready to contact Dr. Kim regarding surgery revision. He had surgery with another doctor and has had some issues. He also heard great things about Dr. Kim. Dr. Kim is very realistic and doesn't make you think you will be skinny as soon as you wake up from surgery. He and his staff try to ensure the patients understand the band as a tool. I don't know who you will ultimately pick, but I hope this helps. Good Luck to you!
  2. Thanks everyone. I really appreciate all of your thoughts and comments. This has helped a lot and now I know what I need to do. I think I really need to start working on what's in my head and then the body will follow. I know this will be a lifelong journey and I'm so glad there are places like this to get help and insight from others going through the same thing. Thanks so much!
  3. Thanks for the comment rocketray. It makes me feel a little better.
  4. I haven't been on this forum very long, but I need some help. I started the 6 month process, to get approved for lap band, about 3 months ago. Ever since then I have been eating like a fool! I am completely out of control and I don't know why. I know in the back of my mind I'm thinking about the future restriction, but I know I need to get control NOW!! I feel like I am the only one with this problem and I'm almost in tears. I'm not a crier and this is the only thing that scares me about this process. I'm fine with surgery and not scared of that at all, but I'm afraid I can't get the eating controlled before my surgery. Can anyone out there give me some insight on this or am I the only one with this problem? Thank you.
  5. Hi Mo! I had also thought about the band for about 2 yrs before I decided this is what I want to do. I lurked around this forum and looked up as much info as I could before I decided to take the plunge and go to a seminar. The doctor I chose no longer has a seminar, but he has a one on one and doesn't charge for that first consultation. Like you, I have a lot to lose (about 145 lbs) and this is the first time I have ever felt like I can do this. I don't have my band, yet, but the journey started with the first consult. I hope we can both document a successful journey. Good Luck!
  6. My family also jokes that my parents spelled Evonne wrong or just made up a spelling:laugh: 6 months does seem like an eternity. At least I can say I started 2 months ago and just have 4 more to go.......wait, 4 still sounds like forever!! LOL  But seriously....It seems like a long time, but I just try to keep myself busy. That's easy with a husband and 2 kids. I'm also trying to look at this as an opportunity to work on my exercise and diet plan. I've already been to the nutritionist, but I still need to work on my eating. I figure 4 months of waiting should give me some time to get myself together. I also need to get back in gear with going the gym so I'm sure the 4 months will fly by.....I hope!:w00t:
  7. Hi there Evonne! I noticed your name because my middle name is Evonne and I thought I was the only person that didn't spell it with a "Y". Awesome! :w00t: I've been on this forum for a very short period of time, but I have seen so many helpful posts. Everyone is very willing to help with any questions. Like you, I am just starting on this journey. I have to go through 6 months of supervised weight loss before my paperwork can be submitted to the insurance company. I am looking forward to this journey and I hope you keep us updated on yours.
  8. I agree with everyone else about being up front and honest. If you want to be with this person, and he wants to be with you, talking about this should not be a big deal. A man that loves you will want you to be happy. My husband didn't bat an eye when I told him I wanted to be banded. He just wants me to be happy and healthy and that's what you need from your partner. Don't settle for less.
  9. Woo Hoo! That is so great. I'm so happy for you. :smile2: Please let us know how everything goes.
  10. It is very normal to be nervous and scared. I've had two previous surgeries in my life and I was nervous before both of them. I'm sure I'll be nervous when my day comes to be banded. You would be a robot if you didn't have these emotions. Good Luck to you!
  11. It all depends on your insurance company. I have Cigna and I know they are very, very strict about the 6 months being in a row. My doctor stressed that point with me, when I scheduled all of my appointments. It won't hurt to call your insurance company and see what they have to say. They may be ok with the missed month. I hope this works out for you. My mother is a teacher and I know how hard it is to get time off of work. Good luck to you. I will pray for your approval!:bored:
  12. My prediet is not going so well. I haven't been doing what I am supposed to do and I need to get on the ball. Has this been hard for anyone else?
  13. I am also hoping to be banded by late August or early September. I have Cigna so I have to do 6 months with the dietician for insurance. It seems like such a long wait, but I keep telling myself it will be here before I know it. I know it's worth the wait. I went ahead and got the psychiatric evaluation, nutritionist appointment and sleep study out of the way. That's a few less things I have to worry about while I prepare for the surgery. I'm so very ready for this new phase in my life. Let us know how everything works out for you.
