Saturday 11/24/07
Today I tried and focussed on making good choices in my eating. I made a pan of baked chicken to eat on today and tomorrow. I also made a big green salad. yum. I can tell my hunger is back, but I am NOT going to gain any weight. I'm going to focus on eating right and try and lose or maintain until I get my fill back to some restriction. I did weigh this morning and the scales showed I was up to 172, however, I am not worried about it because I just got out of the hospital. I know they put bags and bags of fluid in me, so I'm sure I'm retaining water. Anyhow, I'm thankful that I am back to feeling normal again, no more throwing up. I am still a tad bit nauseous after I eat for some reason, but not too bad. Menu today Bfast - just some iced coffee Lunch - cottage cheese, smashed up chicken tender Dinner - smashed chicken tender and boiled egg Supplements - Quickslim 30, flinstone viatimin

Anyone here?
To be honest, I don't feel anything. But I know its working, but I don't get jittery at all. I bought mine from Audree (Babygotback). I had the same problem, every diet pill I had taken made me depressed, jittery and moody. My DH banned me from taking them lol. I was a witch. But with the Quickslim30, I don't feel that way at all. They are capsules, but they are not real big and I haven't had any problems at all taking them. I also was thinking they don't curb my appetite that much, but then like tonight, I have no restriction, and I was eating and I got full really really fast. I ate just as much as I do with restriction. So they keep me from overeating. Also, they help me with my sugar cravings I think.

I agree with you, I should not have gotten a fill. But here is why I did, I keep reading where everyone has to take small bites of food and chew, chew, chew. Well, I didn't, I could take big bites of food, and chew just like I did before the band and had no problems. Sometimes, I would feel it going thru the band but I really only have had 1 PB. So, I figured since I could still eat regular bites of food, I probably needed a fill. My doctor said you should have to "work" at eating meat, well, I figured since I didn't have to do that, I probably should get a fill. Well, I should have left well enough alone. Now I just feel like I'm starting all over again. Although, I do have a very tine bit of restriction, I mean, tiny, it is not enough at all. I'm just going to measure my food and try and make the best healthy choices, and trust me, I will be taking the Quickslim. I am hoping I can get in for a fill in the next 30 days, but we'll see. I have to call them Monday.

Man, I can tell a huge difference in my restriction level. Very HUNGRY, I'm going to have to use a lot of self control!

The Fill from Hell!
Thanks LJM - so much better now. I got instant relief when he took my fill level out. Now I'm just upset that I lost my restriction level again.

I must be stupid
Trust me, you are not stupid....I'm the stupid one! Before my fill on Wednesday, I had good restriction, but being me, I wanted more. So I go get another fill, I want to be tighter, well I got my wish, and by Wednesday night, I couldn't even swallow my saliva. Thursday (Thanksgiving day) I spent the day throwing up and by Thursday evening, I was in the hospital hooked to an IV for sever dehydration. I had to spend the night in the hospital, now I'm back to ZERO restriction again because the doctor had to take my fill out in order to get me healed up. He said I irritated my pouch and stoma so he had to take me back to 3.0 cc's - where I have NO restriction. Talk about being stupid, its me! A lesson for everyone, being too tight is not good. If you have restriction, and can eat healthy foods, stay there. I just figured because I could eat regular size bites of food, then I needed more restriction. I was at 3.8 cc's and he took me to 4.0 cc's - Now I feel like I'm starting all over again, it took my 9 months to get to a good restriction level. I am so mad at myself!

Lapband in Oklahoma
Hi Jeannie, I know my doc charges $4,000 and his counterpart I think charges $1,000. This does not include the hospital charges, but it is out patient and I know they switched hospitals and the new hospital is a lot cheaper than the old ones. Example the old hospital they used charged $900 for fills for self pay, the new one charges a flat fee of $200. This is out of Tulsa, where do you live?

The Fill from Hell!
Okay, I got my fill, very tight. By wednesday night, I could not swallow my own saliva. I ended up sleeping sitting up Wednesday night, I thru up all night. Thursday came around and it only got worse, I was violently throwing up this time, I could not swallow my own saliva. I was trying to hold off going to the hospital until at least Friday morning, I really wanted to wait until Monday. Well, by Thursday evening, I was so sick, I felt so bad, my head was hurting with the worse migrane I had ever had. I went to the ER, I was filling out the paperwork, and realized, I couldn't remember what month it was, I couldn't even remember my middle initial. I was seeing green spots and very dizzy. I knew something was wrong. They get me back to the ER room and tried to get some IV's started and my veins kepts blowing, they said they had to admit me because I was so dehydrated. They finally were able to get an IV started and I spent the evening in the hospital throwing up all night. They finally gave me something that helped calm my stomach and gave me some demoral for my severe headache. This morning my doctor showed up and took some of my fill out. OMG, instant releif! I could feel the saliva go thru. He wanted to take my entire fill out, but I begged him to leave some in. He was going to bring me downto 2.0 cc's, but he went ahead and left me at 3.0 cc's. I was at 4.0. He said he wants to give it a good 2 weeks before I get another fill to give my stomach time to heal. I've learned a valuable lesson, DON'T GET TOO TIGHT! Being too tight is miserable and can cause lots of damage. Fortunately, my band was not damaged, however, I am really swollen and have to stay on mushies for a day or two. Now, I have to try and get some restriction back. I had pretty good restriction before I got this fill, but I figured since I didn't have to take small bites of food, maybe I needed a teeny bit more of a fill. Well, .2cc's pushed it way over the edge, I should have left well enough alone. But stupid me, had to see how much tighter I could stand it. Anyhow, I am glad I went ahead and went to the hospital, they said there was no way I would have made it until Monday, and maybe not even until Friday, I was already having some bad signs of sever dehydration. I couldn't believe just after 1 day it could do so much damage to my body. My potassium was also dangerously low they said. So my IV's wer filled with potassium as well. I'm so gald I'm home and feel so much better and now I can enjoy the rest of my weekend. The good knews, I didn't pig out on Thanksgiving, lol.

Well, I ended up going to the ER around 5:00 on Thanksgiving, by the time I got to the ER, my head felt like it was going to explode, and I couldn't remember what my middle initial was to my name?? I knew something was wrong. They tried to hook me up to IV'S but my veins kept blowing - they said because I was severely dehydrated. To make a long story short, they admitted me into the hospital, I spent the night and this morning, my doc was there and took my fill from 4.0 to 3.0. I tried to talk him into leaving more, but he said I was really swollen and he wanted me to heal first. So, I just got home from the hospital and I am starvin'. I'm supposed to stay on mushies today and call his office Monday and schedule another fill. He said he wanted to wait about 2 weeks before he filled me again. Thank you guys so much for urging me to go in, they said there was no way I could have waited until Monday, and my doctor said the only thing I did bad was not call sooner. I feel soooo much better now, I was throwing up all night last night too, and they gave me some med to calm me down. My stomach is still a little queesy, but at least I can swallow my own saliva now. I just hate it that I have no restriction again. But, I tell you, I would rather have very little restriction than too tight! Being too tight was not fun at all!

i am staying on plan today because ...
I'm staying on plan today because - I have no other choice. I got a fill yesterday and toooo tight. Suffering right now until I can get in to get a slight unfill. So, I won't be pigging out today for sure!

Anyone here?
I'm going to try and wait until tomorrow to go to the ER. I hate to have to call a doc in to unfill me on Thanksgiving, It's my own darn fault, and I don't want to ruin someones holiday. I also really want my own fill doc to do it and not just anyone. I don't know if I will have to wait until Monday or if I call the hospital tomorrow they will be able to get me in. I just poured a cup of hot coffee and tried to barely sip on that, nothing is going down at this point. The coffee came back up and I've been PBing every since. I can't believe I've done this to myself! Well, one more day and we'll see what I can do.

Anyone here?
Enterprise - all I can say is, I AM SOOOOO STUPID! Why in the world did I not take your advice? You were right! I had a miserable night last night, I am PBing my own saliva. My head is hurting this morning from throwing up so much. Man, I'm stupid!!!! I can't believe I did not go get a slight unfill. I might have to go to the ER if things don't settle down. The weird thing is, I can eat, very small bites and it goes thru, but my saliva won't? I had to sleep sitting up last night and even that was causing problems. I'm going to make some warm tea and see if that doesn't help losen me up. I now know what it feels like to be too tight. grrrrr.

Do you ever get frustrated with band babies?
Oh boy, I think comments are being taken way out of context, or NOT reading the entire comment. I'm so happy that I have a doctor that informed me of the rules of lap band. I'm thankful to be able to come here for support and ask some questions and by no means am I saying that newbies shouldn't ask questions, I asked a ton of questions and still do! My only point I was trying to make was, don't eat ice cream and say the band doesn't work. And it is not the patients fault for not knowing about the band, however, I would think ANYONE going into surgery would RESEARCH it first, but thats just me....I blame doctors for failing to educate the patients, teaching them, and giving them good support. Some docs are wonderful, others are not. This is where Research would be beneficial.

I must be stupid
I just got a fill today, the day before thanksgiving. I love Dressing, and my mom always makes me my own pan and brings it over to me. I am so tight, I don't dare try it. grrrrr. You love the band, but sometimes, you hate it too. lol.

Fill #7
Well, I went ahead and went for fill #7 and boy do I feel it. I had restriciton before, but now I really have it. I might even be too tight, but we'll see. I was tempted to go back and have him take just a teeny bit out, but I decided to wait it out until Monday. I am up to 4.0cc's now in my 4.0 cc band. If I stay where I'm at, I don't think that I will ever need another fill. I'm about 20 lbs from goal, and I think this fill is going to take me there! I will be on liquids for the rest of the day, and maybe tomorrow. I just want to be able to eat meat, so if by Monday I can't eat meat, I'll be headed back to the docs office. Well, short day at work today, we should be getting off work at 2 or 3 today - YAY. Menu today - LIQUIDS ONLY

Well, I might have made a BIG mistake....I was scheduled for a fill today, so I thought I should go ahead and go, and I figured I might just need a teeny bit more, maybe 1/2 cc or .1 cc. Well, the doc filled me up to 4.0 cc's and it is barely going thru. I drank some Water before I left, and that was 45 min ago. I still feel the water coming back up my esaphagus. I might be too tight? Or maybe its just irritated? I dont know if I should wait it out? Or if I should head back over there and have him take a little bit out? If I wait it out, it will be Monday before I can get in to see him, they are closed until then. I think I won't be eating much tomorrow for sure. I don't want to get into the habit of the "soft food" syndrome. I still want to be able to eat meat and stuff, so I think I will wait it out, and by Monday if I can't eat meat, I'm going back in. Renee - Congratulations on getting to ONDERLAND! Your doing GREAT! Wow, 88lbs gone forever! Sula - it was 80 degrees yesterday here in Oklahoma, today its down to 38 degrees. We are supposed to hit 20 tonight, so its going to get cold here too. DH has the firwood in the fireplace ready to go, I can't wait to light the fire and sit around the fireplace. It's so relaxing to me. My DH & Son are headed out on a hunting trip Friday morning, my Daughter is going to my mothers house, so I will be all alone for 3 days. I'M SO EXCITED! I love my alone time - I rarely get it, but I love to just veg all by myself at the house. I am going to read, paint, and go to the gym. Its like a mini vacation to me!

Biggest Loser
Yes, I was said to see Kae go too, but I think she has a BIG chance of winning the 100K.< Did anyone see the Larry King with the previous Biggest Loser on? They had Matt on with his wife and new baby, anyhow, Larry asked how they lose so much weight. They explained that they work out for 6 hours a day on the show. Exercise is their job. When they go home, they have family, jobs, etc and can no longer work out like that and that is why they don't lose as fast and many gain back their weight. Matt had gained quite a bit, but still looked good. And his wife Susie (who he met on the show and she was 3rd place winner), she had gained too, but she just had a baby. She still looked good too. I wish I could have a personal trainer to work my butt off like that. I just love seeing everyones transformation. Kae looked beautiful.

Your NO-NO list
So far, I don't have any. I have had 1 PB and it was on a roll (I normally avoid bread, but splurged). Since then, I've eaten bread again and have had no problems. I keep thinking I need to be tighter since I don't have any problem foods. Maybe I'm just lucky. Not sure.

For those six months after band surgery
I am 10 months out and have not lost any hair, at least I don't think I have. If I have, it was very small that I haven't noticed. I have really thick hair and usually have it thinned out when I go get it cut. However, something WEIRD happened to me, at about 5 to 6 months, I did get dermatitus on my scalp. My dermatologist said sometime people get this after surgery or because of stress. It finally went away after weeks of trying different things, but it was nerve wracking because it made my head itch like no other. I figured for sure I would lose some hair because I've had 7 surgeries in the past 3 years, but so far no hair loss, knock on wood.

Long and Winding Road?
I forgot to add - my heartburn, completly gone now....I don't have to sleep sitting up any longer! Lap Band has brought new meaning to the bedroom now. lol

Long and Winding Road?
last November, 2006, I started my journey just like many of you. I had my fears "will this work", "should I do this", "will this be another diet failure" etc etc etc. I was banded January 18, 2007. I started off with high cholesteral, bad lower back problems, border line diabetic, severe sleep apnea, snored like a freight train, I was busting out of all my clothes, I was tired, I was miserable, my face was puffy and really looked, weird? Fast forward - Its now 10 months later and No more high cholesteral, it was 146 - perfect Back Problems - very minimal, if any Diabetic - blood sugar tested 95 - perfect Sever sleep apnea - my Cpap machine was lowered from 13 to 8, so almost over it, doc thinks another 20 lbs and I will lose the machine! Snoring - NOPE Busting out of my clothes - NOPE, keep getting smaller and smaller ones, wearing a size 11 jr. jeans today to work, but can wear a 10 Tired - Nope, full of energy now Face puffy - not any longer, I hardly recognize myself. I actually take a double look at myself in the mirror sometimes. Point I wanted to make, I have been there, I know what your feeling and the doubts you are having. And yes, you can do this and you will do this! Follow the band rules and you will be successful and most, if not all the medical conditions slowly disappear and you regain your life back!
