My doc does not use the numbing med and mine are not painfull at all ! the time it takes to get the numbing med your fill is over . It does not hurt, sting ect. It takes about ( for my doc at least ) 30 seconds and he uses flouro , until this last fill cause he can fill my port. Even then it took about 15 cause he hit it the first time and i didnt have to do the barium swallow with the flouro . its a breeze !! mindy

How the "Mexico " is BAD Myth gets debunked is when people who have HAD bad experiences in Mexico or any where for that matter tells people what happened, who the doc was ect so others are aware and can make an informed, educated choice about who they go to for surgery . People can not educate them selves for safe affected WLS if they dont KNOW !! that's why public forums such as this is so important ! mindy

I think i would do that . if there is an option " No preference" then that's better. A lot of times what happeens is docs get "deals" on certain brands so they push that brand more , that way they make more money . It does not sound like that is what your doc is doing but im still more inclinced to let my doc choose Mindy

I know what type of band i have , I was told AFTER the fact by my doc once he went in and saw what kind i needed. But I agree the docs are the ones that know I just have big issues with this . Mindy

Honestly this is just my opinion but I have real issues with doctors allowing patients to chose their band. At least the size . Manufacturer that's one thing . But size that's another. I think my response to him would be " Your the professional you need to decide which band is BEST For MY ANATOMY " I was told that the docs do not know what size band they will place until they get into the surgery and see your anatomy . Hence why I have issues with docs having pts chose the size band they get. Also the "Claims" of less erosion I do not think are 100% found yet . they are more for marketing right now . So I am not sure i would put too much in that on either brand . really I would tell the doc he needs to decide for you ! mindy

OH dont be so sure about that !! Docs do not ALWAYS honor their commitment to you in the US. your making a HUGE general statement . Is their legal recourse in the US yes. BUT it does not mean a doc wont walk away or do the wrong thing. We all know that happens in the US. So to say " Go to the US cause docs do the right thing here and they dont in Mexico " is not accurate nor fair. I use to work in the medical field AND worked in a malpractice attorney's office. Ive seen BOTH sides. Not only do docs do it our own MILITARY Docs do it ! Mindy

OH i did not realize they were so far apart. in actuality your doc probably CANT do the surgery with teh doc in PA if she's in NY , she probably does not have privileges at the hospitals in PA . I totally agree with you seeing the other docs. You can have the same feelign with them and I agree i would much rather have someone that has port experience. Personally I think i am going to have my band doc move my port I just dont feel good about anyone else touching it Good luck let us know how they go ! Mindy

Honestly it sounds to me like you found your doc . If you like this guy that much ,,,, would you sacrifice price for a doc you did not like as much ? I personally would not ? My lap band doc was a little more than some other docs i could have gone too ( and he's still on the cheap side) but his bedside manner and his personality fit me so well I did not care. Have you considered asking your band doc if she can come in DURING The plastic surgery to do the port replacement ? A lot of times docs will do that or you can have a separate surgery to replace the port, its usually not very expensive . But really you get what you pay for and Price is not everything ! mindy

Your Welcome . Is there any problem being stalled ? No not that im aware . I would think the only issue would be struggling to maintain on your part . Just do your best in that area. I think you will be fine , just get the fill when you can and essentially start a new with the new doc. Sounds like a great plan you have already . As for whY I have had some unfills. I had my first fill and it went fine, my second fill I was too tight. SO i got a slight unfill, i was just fine . Then my third fill again i was too tight. So i had to get another slight unfill , was fine again . My doc and I discovered that I can not tolerate " large "fills. I have a 4cc band so 1cc is a large fill. So now i get .5 or less fills at a time . Recently I had to get a slight unfill because i was having issues keeping food down after not having a fill for nearly 3 months. What we found out is my esphogus may be damaged from yrs and yrs of throwing up from migraines so my "im full " Button does not kick in until its too late and im TOO full so I throw up after I have eaten too much . SO I got the unfill to let my stomach heal. Im fine now I just eat smaller portions more often . Its working great now . Anyway . Good luck and You will be fine your weight loss should pick back up where you left off. HTH Mindy

Ok just so i make sure im understanding you . YOu want to make sure that you can start getting fills after not having them from a certain amount of time ? If that is what your asking YES of course ! BY all means GO GET A FILL my dear !!! If you still have more weight to lose ( Great job by the way) . That is what the band is for . Use the tool you were given . Do you have a doc now that will contiue your after care ? MIndy

Best rule of thumb . go by what your doc orders. I belive mine says 60 grams min. a day ? Mindy

Be very careful keeping yourself this tight. i know someone who did this early on , and pretty much lived on a soft diet and she now has a slip. If your still tonight today i personally woudl go get an unfill. HTH Mindy

my fills typically take 3-7 days to kick in . They can take up to 2 weeks. are you on solid foods yet ?Have you had any episodes of PBing ? If you have i would suggest going on liquids for a few days to make sure your not swollen . If not then if YOUR Not comfortable then you might want to get a slight unfill. HTH MIndy

Sounds like a good plan . for what its worth my fills take up to 4-7 days to kick in so dont freak if you dont feel anything yet. Also I dont tolerate larege fills . large fills with a 4cc band are 1cc at a time. So I get .2 .3 or .5 cc's at a time . And those small amounts do it for me just fine !! So Next time you go in I would urge you to get a small fill as well and take it slow. its better to go slowly than to be too tight. HTH Mindy

I have had flouro with EVERY SINGLE one of my fills with the exception of the last one because i chose not to have it because my doc could feel my port and guess what ? he stuck me the FIRST TIME NO ISSUES !!! I Dont know they will drop you as a patient , IF They do and you got 1 yrs worth of fills DEMAND your money back on that. You might want to try to line up another doc just in case ? But I think your jumping the gun ? I would wait and see what they say ? Be honest , tell them your not comfortable w/ the way the doc has commented on the band and you feel like your not important neither is your band to him. The fact is HE WORKS FOR YOU . HTH Mindy

There should maybe be a disclaimer " Newbies might not want to enter " Seriously !!! Should be on there. I can see how newbies would get offended , but its not towards them . Or anyone . Just we need to rant. Newbies need to rant and rave too. But everyone needs to enter at their own risk and if your feelings are hurt or you take things personally ya might not want to enter !! Mindy

It should take you no LONGER Than 30 mintues to eat but about 30 mintutes to eat as well. If that makes since. It does take me from about 20-30 mintues. And that is ok for MY Doc. Some things will take a little long like meats. But Try to slow down some more. When you think you have chewed your food enough Chew MORE ! I can almost bet even when you think your chewing enough NOW w/ out the band you need to chew more when you have the band. I still have problems remembering this or "judging" This almost a yr out . It will take you that long !! Mindy

Even with out numbing meds ( I dont get numb) it should be a piece of cake. It takes my doc about 30 seconds for my fill ! If my doc poked my more than 3 times I would stop him and say " Lets go get flouro " Mindy
