  1. I am being banded by Dr. Fielding on February 24th. I agree with the previous comments; the office always seems to be packed, but I have really appreciated the personal attention that I have received once in the door. While I am extremely nervous about having surgery, all of the feedback about Dr. Fielding and the other doctors at NYU has been nothing but positive.
  2. I bought the "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies" book and there is a really helpful sample of a letter you can write to Aetna to petition their decision. You can also include testimonies from past doctors, even if they no longer have some of the records. You might even want to consider using a few pictures of you from a few years back as documentation, every little bit helps! Good luck!
  3. Hello Everyone, I am scheduled for my band a week from today, on February 24th with Dr. Fielding at NYU. I am not observant, but was looking for a Jewish group. Have any of you worked with the NYU surgical group and if so, have any of you attended the support groups? I was considering going to one tomorrow evening to meet some people who have had the band. Was it a positive experience?
  4. Thank you both for the feedback and encouraging thoughts!
  5. Hello Everyone! My name is Miriam, I am a 28-year-old from NYC. I am getting banded on February 24th and am both excited and nervous! This will be my first surgery ever, but my surgeon, Dr. Fielding, seems extremely capable and encouraging. I am so happy that I am able to do this before my husband and I consider having children, I hope to one day be an active parent! Currently, I'm finishing up my first week of a liquid diet and trying to get all of my work done in the next week so I can go into this experience with a clear head. I have enjoyed reading other people's experiences and look forward to sharing more stories. I also have a few questions if people are willing to share: 1. How is the whole anesthesia experience? 2. After surgery, is there a specific kind of lotion or creme people use to help firm skin during weight loss? 3. What is the average weekly weight loss people experience in the first few months? Thanks!
