Banded 3-24-2006
Hi JoAnne! Welcome to Bandland! Be sure to rest all you can. Although its a fairly minimally invasive surgery, it's still surgery and there's quite a bit of healing that needs to be done which will sap your energy. Be sure to get in your 60 grams of Protein and take your Vitamins and drink, rather.. sip, lots of Water.

A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
By the way, I posted these on another thread for Josette. These are sites where you can buy scales that go up to 400 pounds. They probably have some that go higher, but that's all I was looking for at the time. http://www.scale-it.com/mechanical.htm http://www.allegromedical.com/diagno..._hd351.P211099 http://www.allegromedical.com/diagno..._hd372.P211100

The Gone for Good Club
ATTENTION CLUB MEMBERS - NEED YOUR INPUT: So I was thinking. I know, I know.. keep your jokes to yourselves. *laughs* Rather than have one huge long thread, how about we start a new one for each month. I can put the Members Page and the Honors page up at the beginning, and we can name them like this: The Gone for Good Club - April I just went through about 15 pages of our posts, trying to decide which ones we could delete and I came up with 50. That's a lot of work for a moderator to do *cough*Penni*cough*. We can just have the threads locked at the end of the month, and I'll put up a link to the next month's thread to direct everyone to the right place. Sound ok with everyone?

Port replaced. Is this normal??
First of all, welcome to LBT, Ready! 1) From what I know about it, which is what I've learned from people who have had flipped or leaking ports replaced or repositioned, the answer is yes, port replacement does require surgery. 2) That will depend on your surgeon. 3) My port is just under my ribs on my right side. Now, question for you. Isn't that painful??!! Have you spoken to your surgeon about this? I hope so. You don't want to risk infection. That needs to be dealt with right away. Let us know what you find out and how things are going.

Eating/Drinking before a fill???
I was filled on an empty stomach. Only guessing about this now, but it seems as though having a full stomach could cause problems in the ways the other ladies have described, or by ending up with a fill that's just too loose once the food has passed through. Could be wrong about that though. Ask your doctor what he suggests - that would be your best bet.

New Member..almost
Hey Gail, welcome to LBT! I think you'll find very differing stories about the pain levels. Most of which describe some discomfort from incisions in the first few days. The gas used during surgery to inflate the stomach, which makes room for the laproscopic tools and surgery, often causes some lingering problems but is usually gone within a week or two. I had a ventral hernia repair on my stomach at the same time, and that hurt far worse than any of the lapband incisions. I'm a big baby and I did fine. You will too.

First Fill's a BIGGIE!!!!!
Inamed's recommendation for the first fill in a VG (10cc) band is 4cc. Check out this thread to see a chart on how the different amounts of fills restrict the stoma: http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=15216

Hey Alex - No Pics in Journals?
I'm not finding an option to download and attach pics in the journals anymore. I've done it before - have pics in my journal still - but it looks like the icon is missing. Has this changed or am I just being a numpty? Thanks

Thinking and researching the lap band
I got my first (and only) fill at the six week follow-up appointment. My first few days were on Clear Liquids, then I progressed to full liquids for the remainder of the first three weeks. I was then on mushies and slowly progressing to solid foods on week 5. On solids and doing well by the end of week six. All doctors are different though. Your nutritionist and/or doctor should be able to let you know ahead of time what you can expect.

Committment Thread to lose weight
Penni - I sure hope you feel better soon. Colds aren't the worst thing that can happen to us, but they sure do SUCK! *hugs* Paula - He is adorable, isn't he? I love him so very much! Guess what? I went over 50 pounds!! Yay!!! -52 today :) I will do 30 minutes of cardio every day. (Walked on the dreadmill. No gym. We've given up until next week when everyone's schedules are in better order for this.) I will drink 6 - 16.9oz bottles of Water every day. (Did it!) I will write down every bite I put in my mouth - quantity, calories, Protein. (Yup, keeping up on this.) I will take on one realistic self or home project per day. (Um, I finally went and started my tanning sessions! Does that count? *laughs*) Gym days: Tuesday _NO_ Thursday _HA!_ Saturday _HA!_

The Gone for Good Club
:clap2: Welcome to the Gone for Good Club, Josette! :clap2: So, glad you jumped in with both feet. Now... hit the ground running! Run from the fear of giving up food, Run from chocolate, and for pete's sake run toward your goal of a healthy life! I will get you added to the Member's page. Do you want your stats put up like the others have? If so, let me know what you want included. So sorry about the loss of your mom, but I have to say that it's awesome to see you doing something so special in her memory. I'm sure she's smiling about it. I sure am! *hugs* By the way, the eating thing is called the Last Supper Syndrome. Everyone gets this feeling of panic, thinking they have to eat everything they can now because they wont ever be able to have it again after banding. That's just not true, so relax and think of your journey as beginning now. Everyday is an opportunity to take one more step in the right direction. And all of those steps put together, get us where we want to be.

discouraged? you can give up....
Woohoo Cashley and Pugmum! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Only when we are ready to accept the truth will we be truly able to change it. Right on ladies. It's always refreshing to hear people who aren't afraid of speaking honestly about why they aren't progressing as they would like. If we all did this, we'd see a huge number of people shouting out happy reports and NSV's every day.

Popcorn?
I use popcorn for my occassional scack. I buy the Pop Secret 100 calorie bags. There's plain or kettle corn. Perfect serving size and no problems at all. Not too salty either. Enjoy!

I just realized...

I Really Miss
How about a long healthy life? Over 50% of those calories are from fat. Great way to stop your heart. If you aren't willing to trade them in, you might just end up giving up your life for them. *winks* By the way, two sausage egg mcmuffins and hash browns add up to this: 1,030 calories 64 grams of fat (22 of which are saturated fats) 72 grams of carbs Sometimes it pays to look at the facts, not just the emotions. My addiction was sausage egg bicuits. I traded up for -50 pounds and smaller jeans. I traded up for getting on the floor with my grandson to play. I traded up for life. (Thanks Tommy.. as always, you rock!)

Thinking and researching the lap band
Hey Cindy, welcome to LBT! I was banded on Jan 9th, this year. My port is located just under my ribs on my right side. I'm still aware of its presence, because it sticks out like a lump but it's not gross or weird at all. At my last Dr. visit, I asked him why it was sticking out so much and he said, 'Well, it's because you don't have much fat here.." (which made me smile) ".. all of your fat is hanging down here." (which made my smile go away! LOL). I don't ever plan on wearing tops so tight you could see the lump anyway, so it doesn't bother me. It doesn't hurt, or feel uncomfortable at all. It's just... there. I understand that they are doing clinical studies on a remote control band which adjusts in size without needing fluids in a bladder. There is a tiny antenna just under the skin on your chest. When and if this is approved in the US, I'd switch to it and get rid of the port and the need for fills. My luck though, someone would open the garage door down the street and my band would close up right when I'm swallowing a bite of food! hehe

Any of wish you had gotten RNY?
You couldn't pay me enough to let someone start cutting apart my innards and sew them back together in hopes of them working correctly. Not to mention the stress on your organs from losing weight so fast, the gaunt sallow look of poor health, the tons of sagging skin.. blech. That is what I saw in a person I worked with that had the RnY. So I knew it would never be something that I would be willing to risk. I chose the band. I've lost about 50 pounds in three months, including my pre-op diet. I'm now losing about 2 pounds per week and I'm fine with that. I need time to get my head in line with my body as it changes. Anyway, I hope this didn't offend or upset anyone. I know we have some folks who have chosen the other routes and I pray it goes well with them. I sincerely do. This is just how I felt for myself. And I'm the only one I can speak for. Best of luck to you in your decision. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you great success.
