Anyone chose self pay due to impatience with ins?
I chose self pay because my insurance didn't cover the surgery. I ended up going to Mexico for the surgery and had a great experience. If I would have self payed at a nearby hospital it would have been a lot more money and still an extensive preop process. I had my surgery 2-3 weeks after I called the doctor in Mexico. Traveling to Mexico for surgery
I just returned from sleeve surgery in Mexico 3 days ago. Everything went very smoothly. I overpacked so my advice would be to bring just a carryon if you can. In the hospital you just wear their gown. Slippers are good to bring to wear over the support hose as you're walking the halls. For after discharge bring a dress or loose fitting elastic waist sweats type thing as your belly will be a little distended from the gas and fluids they fill you with. Gas x strips are great, as is bullion/broth cubes or packets for back at the hotel or on the plane home. Other than that and personal items there's not much else you need. Good luck!! Advice - wish I'd followed
I fractured my wrist a couple years ago and had to have a metal plate put in. I started losing my hair for a short time after that. My doctor and my hairdresser both said it was from the trauma to the body. Maybe eating healthier would have helped back then but I don't think I had any nutritional deficiencies. I'd love to not repeat the hair loss after this surgery and will definitely do what I can nutritionally but it might just be something that happens to some of us after body trauma. Surgery is TOMORROW! Doesn't seem real.
My surgery went fine. I think it took about 30 minutes. I woke up in recovery wondering if they had started yet...I was that pain free. I was up and walking pretty quickly after getting back to my room. I had read about the gas pains so I was prepared for the worse but it hasn't been that bad. Today is day 2 so they brought me Gatorade and Water to sip on. I'm taking very small sips because I don't want to push my luck....so far no nausea or anything. So far no regrets and enjoying walking the halls with the other women who were sleeved here. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Pre-opt diet....
Mine is based on BMI for the length of the pre-op diet but the content is the same. 2 Protein shakes per day and one meal consisting of a lean meat or protein and veggies. Clear Liquids the day before surgery. Not too hard but miss my coffee with French vanilla creamer. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
