  1. I wish someone had told me to call Humana before my initial doctor appointment. I went to my first appointment in December and had a BMI of 38.7. Humana requires 40 without co-morbidities, which I do not have. They initially denied my surgery. Also, refused to pay any of the doctor visit, $162.00. I was so upset that I was less than 10 pounds away from being approved. My surgeon's office was great and hinted that if I gained weight I could come back to see if I qualified. I did end up gaining weight with a BMI over 40, and am now awaiting insurance approval. But, I had to pay another doctor visit of $162.00, just to get weighed. Also, Humana did not require a psych evaluation or a 6 month waiting period, which was nice, but what they do require was a $5,000.00 deductible. I really want the surgery and think it is worth the money in the long run. I have scheduled my meeting with the dietician and can schedule my surgery as soon as 2 weeks afterwards. My surgeon requires a 2 week liquid diet before the surgery. Humana is easy to work with, but on my plan, you will pay a lot. Hopefully your experience is better. Good luck!
