  1. Andy, You have answered so many of my questions and I want to thank you for taking the time to post such a great and informative reply!! I think the team of Dr. Grove and Dr. Britt will be my team as well - I have given this so much thought and have considered several different doctors - maybe too many that I have confused myself. Thanks for turning the light on for me!! lol I wish you continued success and look forward to learning more about your incredible journey to fitness! Smiles, Patricia
  2. Wow Alaverde, I am so PROUD of YOU!! I hope that I do as good as you have done - you are so very close to your goal and have accomplished so much in such a short time:thumbup:! This forum is definitely what I needed to find as most of my family thinks that I just don't have any willpower, they say just eat right and you won't look like that - there are no overweight people in my family other than myself and my oldest daughter and I feel as though I have to set an example for my daughter in order for her to loose her weight. She is so much heavier than I am and she is so young and beautiful, but she has put her life on hold because of her weight. She has so much potential and she finds that her weight has actually kept her from advancing in her job. She has pretty much isolated herself from society other than her work and her little dog. My heart just breaks for her so I must be the leader and show her that we are fixable. Don't get me wrong, I need to loose 102 pounds so I need to do this for myself - but she is closing in on 350 pounds and diabetes runs in both mine and my husbands families, so she feels like she is just a ticking time bomb. She is also fearful of having a fatty liver, have any of you heard of this? Patricia Thanks for letting me vent here, you guys are amazing and I am so proud of all of you!
  3. Andy, you have just made my night! I am so thankful for your post!! I will call his office tomorrow to find out when the next seminar will be. Did you have any problems after your first fill and how do you know when it is time to get a fill? I know this probably sounds dumb, but I have really worried about if I would know when it was time for a fill. Have you ever heard of a port flipping, I know I hadn't until I was reading on this forum, but it wasn't here on the Alabama forum. I didn't even realize there was a forum for Alabama until Mindy a very kind moderator gave me the information. Thank you so very much! Patricia
  4. I have only heard wonderful things about both Dr. Grooves and Dr. Freeman! I haven't met Dr. Freeman but I have met Dr. Grooves and he has such a wonderful personality and since he has the lap band, I fell he understands what we are going through. Dr. Grooves actually did bypass surgery on a dear friend I go to church with and she has done great and dearly loves him to death.
  5. Oh dear, do you mean Dr. Grooves from Albertville? I would think that 40 pounds in a year would not be very good - can you tell me more? Many Thanks Patricia
  6. I have attended a couple of seminars, one for gastric bypass and one for lap band. I am coming here to this site to get more information! One doctor I am considering is Dr. Grooves in Albertville, the other one is Dr. Freeman in Anniston. My daughter lives in Birmingham and is scheduled a seminar with Dr. DeWitt there in Birmingham.
  7. Thank you for your reply! I have said I would never have gastric bypass after my brother-in-law passed - have gone to two different seminars with two different doctors. One was for gastric bypass and the last one for lap band - I was terrified at the gastric bypass one and was pleasantly surprised by the lap band seminar, the doctor giving the seminar was Dr. Grooves from Albertville and he actually had the band inserted about one year ago by his partner Dr. Britt and he looked great and had lost over 100 pounds. Just knowing that he had the surgery made me really feel so much better, but he is young, probably in his mid to late 30's and they all look great at that age! lol Good Luck to you and everyone else here! Patricia
  8. I have actually attended one of Dr. Grooves siminars and he really impressed me and especially after he told that he had been banded himself. I have gotten a little nervous though after reading about all the band slips and now the ports flipping. Congratulations on having your lap band surgery, I look forward to reading wonderful news from you!! Thank you again!
  9. Hi Asasbama, I am in Fort Payne as well, can you please tell me who your surgeon was in Albertville? I have attened a siminar by Dr. Grooves and he seems wonderful, I have also heard great things about Dr. Freeman in Anniston. I would so appreciate your input on how you are doing with your lapband, I am trying to decide whether to band or to go with the bypass surgery. I am thrilled you are getting to go to Auburn, my daughter lived down there for a while and it is truly one of the most beautiful places ever - Congratulations! Thanks! Patricia
  10. Hi everyone! I have been reading this forum for a couple of months now and it has provided so much great information! I am trying to decide if I want the lap band or to go with the bypass surgery. My daughter who is 35 and is also severely obese is considering the same thing. Anyone know of any great surgeons for either of these procedures in Alabama? I must admit I thought that the lap band would be the best to start with, but I have read some posts that has me thinking about the bypass again - any suggestions I wouldn't greatly appreciate! I have type II diabetes, really bad knees, high blood pressure and I LOVE food - oh I forgot to add that I am 53 years old and am so tired of being so overweight - I have let it rob me of my joy for life and my knees have really put my walking to a standstill. I find myself becoming a loner and even avoiding the telephone when it rings. Four years ago, my brother-in-law went in for gastric bypass and he never got to leave the hospital - of course he did not do as the doctors had told him prior to the surgery - but it has taken me four years to get up my courage to do something about my weight. I used to be very outgoing and never met a stranger, but my weight has gotten me really down on myself - I know how I am supposed to eat - so why can't I do it - after all I am a grown woman??? Patricia
