  1. Hi Anne, my dates also the 31st, not really nervous as my original date was the 17th so probably be nervous on the day, as for what to expect for the next few months, theres the switching from white bread to multigrain, no more drinking with meals and also drinking anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour before food and then waiting 30 minutes to an hour after (just depends on your doctor.) This sites pretty good as basically anything you want to know is in the forums and if it isn't then theres always people in the chat to help you out.
  2. I know exactly what your going thru, I was supposed to have surgery on the 17th this month and I have a wedding to go to on the 14th and was planning on saying I had a stomach bug and things don't sit well with me at the moment so I dunno anymore but as for after I'm just going to say I don't eat alot of bread/pasta/rice afterwards which in actuallity is true - You don't eat heaps of bread Pasta or rice. Honestly it's your decision for when you want to tell people and I personally won't tell people until I feel comfortable - they can assume all they want but until I feel comfortable with everything in my life I won't be telling them. Edit** Another thing I wanted to add - I have alot of health problems and although I realise alot of people would be supportive afterwards because they know this and they know I need to do something for future health reasons I still feel like they'll say something horrible. I've told my mum, dad and 2 sisters and my aunt and that's the only family that knows - My older sister doesn't see why she should keep it a secret even though she has - We have another family we're friends with and she said what should I say to them? And I just told her tell them I'm having a bronchoscopy or something in hospital (as my date was previously 6 days before my 21st and they'd be wondering why I couldnt eat anything) but I think when I do get surgery I might use the hernia as an excuse, like furious said - they're happy about loosing but feel horrible in the fact that people might think they've failed and that's my whole reason, I don't want people to just turn around and say "we'll why don't you just eat less and excercise more?" For some people that is a good thing but I have lung problems and even walking up stairs is hard regardless of my weight, then add on that that I am on medication that makes me gain weight and I'm looking at a transplant in 5-10 years and I know some people will be happy that I'm doing this for myself but you can't always predict someones reaction to something Sorry this was so long, wanted to put my 2 cents in
  3. Congrats, mine was supposed to be the 17th as well but it was postponed because of some cancer patients (totally pissed about that) Anyway let me know how your surgery goes!
  4. You can buy McLeods on the sunnybank obesity clinic website
  5. Yikes, 732 true and false questions? Tha't ridiculous but then again I've heard of alot of people on here having to do that, I know what you mean about the date tho, I've been kinda screwed around and then got my date on the 27th of feb for the 17th this month which is annoying to say the least lol. Anyway these forums are pretty good, especially the food and nutrition board for when you get the date and are stuck on recipes for afterwards. Good luck =)
  6. Brisbane, Australia. Surgery date is the 17th and at the moment I'm on day 6 of my optifast stage and it sucks =(
  7. So I'm allowed clear fluids for 10 days after my op but the only kind of Soups that I can think of that are clear and can fit thru a straw (has to be the consistency to fit through a straw) are chicken noodle Soup (packet kind) without the noodles and french onion soup (packet kind.) I'm pretty sure I can't survive for 10 days on just those 2 soups lol so if anyone has any recipes or can even link me to another part on this forum where theres some because I can't find any I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
  8. Exactly what mec said, what's the point in going thru this entire process to drink at meals when the food will be washed away and you won't feel full so you'll go back and eat again, I don't have the band yet and I know it's going to be hell trying to change my habits but it will definitely be worth it - Just remember every doctor tells you something different, mine said diet drinks are fine as long as the fizz is gone - the only one I've found that the fizz goes straight away is pepsi max lite so I'll be sticking to that. As for drinking with meals mine is 15 minutes before have a drink then wait 30 minutes after, pretty good compaired to some who are told to wait 45 minutes before & after.
  9. Usually you aren't the one that schedules the date, the doctor will do it when he has the next free date in his schedule but congrats, march 23rd is my birthday
  10. Maybe start by buying the preop stuff now if you see it on special, I was only given 3 days notice before I went on my preop so you're lucky. If you've got family that you cook for maybe make some meals in advance, or make some of the soups you'll need afterwards in advance.
  11. I think I'd be happy if I was allowed even a tiny bit of fish, I mean it's not exactly going to make my liver gain right?
  12. I'm on 3 shakes a day with an allowed 2 cups of no starch vegies and it's only on day 5 that I have absolutely no energy, it sucks
  13. It never really clicked that without food in the pre op phase I wouldn't have energy, I've been on the shakes for 6 days now and it's only yesterday that I felt exhausted, I don't know how anyone that has a job can deal with this, I don't have a job which usually I'm bummed about but at this point I'm glad I don't because I never would be able to work and be on the shakes, I feel exhausted even after 10 hours sleep which is ridiculous. Anyone else encounter this?
  14. So I got a call last week and it was my surgeons nurse saying that my surgery is scheduled for the 17th - At the moment I'm happy but not excited, it's kinda like he's basically told me that I've won $5 in a raffle you know lol but I know as the date gets closer I'll be more nervous. It's kind of annoying though, my hospital has basically been screwing me around since december last year but because I'm not paying for anything to do with surgery I felt like I couldn't say anything otherwise they'd say "hey your bitching too much, we're not gonna do it" lol. But the other annoying part is I haven't done anything really like to do with friends or anything and a friend of mine's wedding is on the 14th so that's kind of annoying and then my 21st in on the 23rd soo yeah that's a bummer - not that I would of have a huge celebration anyway but still it kinda sucks lol. So I told my family that I'm going to turn 20 again this year and turn 21 next year - It'll just make things easier. So who else is scheduled for the 17th? :cursing:
  15. I started all of this last january so 13 months - as for an appointment with a surgeon though i didn't get that until june and didn't really start the process until august.
  16. There are actually alot of surgeons at the Wesley as well - I have Dr Ian Martin - although he's been screwin me around - grrrrrrrr - And he does intermediate at the pa in brisbane so it ends up being a bit cheaper than the other options, just type in his name on google and his website will come up
  17. Hey di, I'm not banded so people that are correct me if I'm wrong. Overeating will cause the pouch to enlarge but considering when you get fills you feel fuller I don't see why you would want to over eat? As for getting stuck, almost every person I've heard that had this has been to tight and had to get a slight unfill
  18. Ahh ok, well I guess in a way that's good, I mean if they had of been rude about the entire story I would of rung up and complained lol
  19. Well when I have the surgery and finish I'll let you all know - I'm bigger than all of you and I'm 5'4 and 20 sooo if I don't have excess which I bet $10,000. I will then yeah lol
  20. Wow they actually had a story on a current affair that wasn't putting down people that have had the band? That's a first, congrats on being on thier by the way - didnt watch it because ive noticed that show are just plain rude about people that any type of weight loss surgery
  21. You know as I was logging in today I actually was thinking "Maybe oprah should consider the lap band" I mean you look at everything that's happened to her and when you think about it, it would probably be the better option for her, as for what you said about just seeing a number on the scale and having only that as motivation I totally agree - for me my health is way more important than what I look like and considering I'm only 20 I should probably be one of the people on here where vanity rules overall - thankfully I'm not
  22. I don't really have a moment, mainly because I was told in october last year that I should consider getting the lap band by my respiratory doctor, he said I should maybe write to parliment to see if I can get it funded or get the money, next thing you know in january I've got a appointment with an endo/diabetes doctor, then got shoved back and forth and had an appointment in july this year with the lap band doctor, now over a year later they've told me I might be having it this month - actually it was meant to be early december but yeah lol. So technically I didn't have a moment, I've known about the lapband but after my doc said that I got on here and started researching, technically it wasn't even my idea, you could basically say I've been pushed into it, but I wouldn't have it any other way, I don't have to go through insurance like most on here and be screwed around, so in that case I'm lucky but time wise and how long it's taken really I'm not
  23. I always heard that the realize band was the one that went the full way around, where as the actual lap band stopped where it did up?
  24. I think what you feel is normal, I watched a show about a woman that had I dunno which weight loss surgery but that was her outlook afterwards, if a guy hit on her she would turn them down because she would be thinking "would you have liked me beforehand" which I do see peoples points, I have personally never had a guy hit on me, (australian guys are stupid lol) and I think once I do loose the weight if guys do hit on me it's going to be a huge shock to the system, I'm used to some guys on the net saying I'm sexy etc but in person it's just as weird lol. As for what to do, I think the woman had the bypass which requires you to see the physcologist (sp?) which definitely makes sense but it makes me think that no matter which surgery your getting you need to see one no matter what, it definitely wouldhelp with everything your thinking, maybe you could try and do that? Good luck with everything
  25. I think everyone was given basically the same info just different times, for me it was have a drink 15 minutes before, don't drink during dinner/lunch/whatever and then half an hour after wards, that I can handle - I don't think I could if the nurse told me to wait an hour before and after
