Getting Sleeved on Tuesday...8/4.... Any advice on how to prepare...both physically...and what should I bring with me? thank you ????
@@flipper72 & @@Tazwella, I was told to bring chapstick as mentioned above by Tazwella -- and Gas-X (the strips or chewable kind) to remove any gas discomfort. The nurses at the hospital called me and told me to bring toiletries as they supposedly have everything else such as gowns and slippers. Therefore I have packed deoderant, soap, toothpaste, lotion, Gas-X, chapstick, several clean underwear, magazines (and mp3 player for entertainment) and my daliy prescribed medications. Best of luck to all on the day of your surgery and best wishes for a quick recovery.

Struggling with Second Thoughts
@geronimo I too am having doubts and my surgery is tomorrow! I am scheduled to have the sleeve. But the fact that this is permanent and taking supplements for the rest of my life seems a bit disturbing. In the end, only you can decide wether to go through with it. The catalyst for me is being told repeatedly that this surgery will "save my life,". That is a very good reason to go through with the procedure. I too have yo-yo dieted most of my life and to no avail, always gained the weight right back. I am at my heighest weight today and have several comorbidities that lead to my decision for sleeve surgery. Regarding the arthritis, you would be taking Citracal (Calcium Citrate) daily (along with other vitamins) and that should take care of your bone health. Hope this helps a bit! And good luck withyour insurance approval and diet program.

Any New York pre op sleevers?
thanks for asking @bornthisway622, Montifiore is a great Hospital. To answer your question, I started this process in October 2014, but I didnt have any requirements as others do for insurance purposes; once I decided I was really going to go through with the procedure, I completed my paperwork and exams in a very short amount of time, all together I was prepared in about 3months. Because of my insurance (Medicare) I did not have to wait a year or 6 months, not even 3 months, this was just the time it took me to decide and do research. With Medicare one can complete all exams and requirements in one month.

HELP!
@@brilemons, I came across some information today, in the Big Book on gastric Sleeve that states the folowing about alcohol intake and the sleeve: (All this said, I think a sip will be okay. ) Alcohol and the Vertical SleeveWhat about alcohol? It’s not an essential nutrient. Moderate consumption of red wine may have some benefits for your heart. It may raise your levels of healthy HDL cholesterol and help protect your blood vessels against damage.29 Alcohol also helps you relax. However, drinking alcoholic beverages can throw off your weight loss and cause health problems. Calories, Alcohol, and Your WeightAlcoholic beverages are high in calories. Each gram of alcohol has seven calories, and that’s not even counting the carbohydrates that are in some alcoholic beverages. A 5-ounce serving of wine has 130 calories; an 8-ounce cup has 200 calories, or about twice as many as a glass of juice. A 1.4-ounce shot of vodka has 103 calories, or nearly 600 calories in an 8-ounce cup. A 12-ounce can of beer contains 164 calories. Drinking alcohol can cause you to take in more calories than you wanted to. Beyond the calories in the alcoholic beverage, the alcohol relaxes you so much that it makes you lose your inhibition. That means that you’re less able to resist high-calorie foods and more likely to give in to temptations. You’re also more likely to eat without planning for it or writing it down. Drinking alcohol may not be worth it after the sleeve because you don’t want to work so hard to lose weight and then end up taking in way more calories than you wanted just because your judgment isn’t good. Other Concerns with Alcoholic BeveragesAlcohol, even in moderation, can cause problems in addition to interfering with weight loss:30 It can make your blood sugar levels spike. It interferes with memory. It can increase blood pressure. It can damage your liver. Alcohol Metabolism and the SleeveYou may be more susceptible to the effects of alcohol after the sleeve gastrectomy than you were before it. Your blood alcohol content may get to higher levels than before, and alcohol can stay in your system for longer than it did before the sleeve. Although not all studies have found that the sleeve changes your alcohol metabolism,32 it is best, based on current knowledge, to avoid alcohol with the sleeve. Source: 2013. August Sleevers
I am struggling a bit with the second week diet plan (two-shakes, one meal). There are days where I'm eating more than others, as in drinking a shake and eating shortly thereafter -- then later having a regular meal (the "one" meal) for the day. Any advice or suggestions?
