  1. Just finished my pre op appt with Dr. Troy Houseworth. Consents signed, questions answered, bloodwork drawn.... This is real! Monday morning at 1030 I'll be on the sleeved side! Super nervous, but I know I'm in good hands. I worry about complications, but he says luckily I'm one of those people who are low risk for complications (barely met criteria). My parents and boyfriend will be joining me at the hospital. Thank god I'll need people to take my mind off things. Wow, can't believe I'm almost there!
  2. Well the liquids is working for me. I am doing 2-3 protein shakes a day, and limitless broth, sugar free jello, sf Popsicles, etc. try it!
  3. When is your surgery Amanda?
  4. Absolutely! I think so many people who become nurses do so because they can identify the caregiver in their own personality. I know I am a nurse all the time, not just during clinic hours....
  5. I'm dec 9th too! How's the preop going? Love this thread. Truth being spoken here.
  6. Two days on the preop liquid diet and I'm down 7lbs!! Wow! Speechless .....
  7. Wow honey way to go! Hope things are better today. I bet water sounds so good right now! Fingers crossed all goes well with the leak test.
  8. Day two of liquids is ending in fatigue and headache. I'm on call for work tonight, so gonna lie down for a bit and build up some energy. Hopefully these are signs of withdrawals that'll soon pass. Nurse_B... How ya doing?!
  9. How's the gas pain? Sounds like you're doing great! Rest up lady!
  10. How's day two going? Definitely feel more tired today and I have had a headache all afternoon. Guess it's true about day 2 & 3. Not fun! Sipping broth and lying down for now. I'm on call for work all night, hoping for some sleep. And off tomorrow, so more sleep then. And its crazy how much food advertisements influence what we eat. I see them everywhere now! argh! Hope you're surviving!
  11. So helpful! Thank you! Now that I'm on day two of the pre op diet, I'm a little less anxious. Feeling. Pretty good. No more bloated belly from the crap I normally eat. And I'm doing the work, which keeps me distracted. When I'm waiting around for something to happen that's when I start letting my anxiety take over. Keepin busy! Weird tho to not be eating food, ESP dinner with my man, when it's such a natural instinct. But I'm doing quite well with the liquids so far. 6days to go!
  12. I'm on day one of a week long pre op diet as well! Congrats to us! We are in the home stretch before the big day! My diet consists of unlimited sf liquids (like sf Popsicles, jello, crystal light) and broth. And up to three protein shakes per day. That's it. I'm jealous that you get to eat real food! I keep reading that the first three days are the worst. Hang in there! When is your surgery date? Where are you going?
  13. Finished day 1 of my pre op diet. Stuck to plan! And peed my brains out lol. Lost two pounds....nice little reward after a hungry day. Looking forward to what's to come!
  14. Thank you and good luck with your surgery tomorrow! I'll keep you in my thoughts and when you're able, I'd love an update! Big day tomorrow!!!
  15. Another dec 9th sleever here! Start my week of liquids tomorrow....kind of looking forward to it, but getting super anxious about the big day. How's everyone handling the anxiety? Good luck all!
  16. At St. Francis hospital in federal way.
  17. Psis: yup! I practice at St. Joseph Medical Center in tacoma, wa. Thanks ladies for the encouragement. Guess I'll just have to jump in!
  18. Hello all! Tomorrow morning starts my 1 week pre op liquid diet. I am certainly looking forward to the long term effects of this surgery. But tonight I feel like I'm teetering on the edge of my normal life and the great unknown. I am feeling anxious, scared, nervous, hungry...... I need some encouragement guys. Anyone else where I am? For those of you past this phase was there anything that made you calmer? Reassured that this is the right decision? While I believe that this is the right decision for me, there are so many frightening factors : surgical complications, fear of failure, what my body will look like,...... Words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated!
  19. I like this thread. I am less than 48 hours from starting my pre op liquids only diet. I intend to stick to it, and it's good to know the first three days are the worst. I am working those days, and will have to accommodate for work, but I will survive. I am very busy usually at work. I've done most of my shopping, and have enough to last me through post op week 1 liquids I think. I actually appreciate the "tough love" on this forum. There is no reason why I can't live in liquids for a week and I look forward to feeling better. I have been eating all the junk I know I love And kind of feel disgusted with myself. I'll eat lightly tomorrow and ease into my liquids tomorrow night and the next morning. Good luck to those of you beginning your pre op diet and to those that are in the thick of it.. This means surgery date is coming soon! What we all have been waiting for!
  20. I did not have to diet or lose weight before surgery. Just about to start the pre op liquid diet for 7days. That's my only requirement. Some very overweight people need to lose weight before surgery because it puts them at higher risk for complications.
  21. Skin pics ... Sorry about that. I hope to use this thread to track my progress. Here's my before pics. Starting weight: 295lb. Height 5'10". Goal 170lb. Surgery date dec 9th. Pre op diet starts dec 2nd.
  22. I'm having a food funeral this weekend...exciting! Going into town for a night out and a fancy hotel. Gonna find the best pizza place in Seattle and enjoy because it'll be a very long time before that'll happen again. I gotta do something to shake my anxiety about the surgery. I tell my patients all the time that planning a fun event can help to take their focus away from a scary procedure. Then liquids start Monday! Even though I've been watching a lot of videos and reading forum about complications, oddly I feel a little more settled about it all. At some point I have to get to acceptance stage....almost there! Happy thanksgiving all!
  23. It's in the support groups thread. Thanks for the good thoughts!
  24. Felicia, thanks for your honesty. For me, I am also worried I will regret it. My mom just says, "Ashley, you don't have to do this." And even though this is elective, yes, I feel like if I don't do this I will never be successful in weight loss. I do have a supportive boyfriend who is up for helping me out after. Was there anything special you brought to the hospital or anything you wish you would've brought? I spent 100 bucks at Walmart today on stuff for hospital and postop.
