Newly Banded in Williamsburg
Gina, Zannie thank you for your support. They would not do the surgery together for exactly what one of you said, it is to dangerous due to the risk of infection. The nurse called me to tell me I had a polyp on my gallbladder and it was her opinion the doctor would want to take out the gb first, however a few minutes later she called me back and said the doctor assessed the ultrasound and wants to go forward with the band and monitor the gb in the future! I was happy and worried at the same time! The lead band nurse who I have seen already was out yesterday, I plan to call her on Monday to get some reassurance. I trust the doc if this is his choice. I have had NO problems with the GB so far, so maybe it is not a big issue at this time. I AM EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!! That is so cool that you both saw each other in the docs office, next time you both should have a "small" snack together after your fill! Gina, wow, I am so like you about needles. When I heard I had to have a blood gas, I thought I would have stroke. In my past after a tech stabbed me for 30 min and I had to lay down from passing out, I told him, NO MORE. I did not care if the test was incomplete. But this tech was OUTSTANDING! I did not even know she did it. But my facial expressions to them is FEAR and I don't look! I am so happy your fill is in! I can't wait to hear more. Keep me posted, and Zannie, wow, I bet you are at that "spot". Have a great weekend! 5 more days and I will join the Band team!

Toni- Great to hear from you and that you are doing well! It sounds like the pain in you stomach is all normal. Did you have to ask for the liquid meds or did your script specify this? Something to know when my hubby goes to the pharmacy. Do you work outside the home? I am having my surgery Thursday and at first was going to take off until the following Thursday, but I might try to go back Monday or Tuesday. You will have to let me know how your days progress! Have a great BAND weekend. Becky-You are right, I will call the nurse, who is a Jeanine too! She will be the person who will be my primary go to after the surgery and who I see for my follow up visit. Her credentials is higher than an RN but I can't remember. I think once I talk to her I will feel better. The doctors are very conservative and excellent from all I know, so I will trust them. I have never had problems with my gallbladder, gallstones, or anything. But I want to hear more. I doubt a visit with the doc would happen unless the date is rescheduled since my surgery is this Thursday. Thanks for your support. After a good nights sleep, I am back to EXCITEMENT! And I lost 1 more lb! Stay cool, hot here!

Toni, Yes this is my oldest child who is getting married. My son is 21 and has a daughter, age 17 months. As you can imagine my life has had a few bumps in the road, but I am blessed with a beautiful grandaughter. My son and his fiance are getting married and the wedding reception is at my house! I have been doing all the hard work this past week and this weekend. Next weekend after the surgery I plan to take a rest and do some baking. I am getting some food catered and some I am doing. I enjoy it, but hell, it is going to be interesting with the eating restrictions. I have 3 other children, 18 year old son, and a 15 and 12 year old step daughters.

Thank you guys for the great feedback, after reading Becky's message I am not sure I am happy with my news or not. My doctor has decided to go ahead with my lapband on June 7 and monitor the gallbladder with future blood tests. It is weird because I called first and spoke with the nurse and she told me she gave the chart to the doctor and he would call. When I asked her what she thought he would do, she said take out the gallbladder first. But then she called me a couple minutes later and said the doctor said the opposite. Should I be worried about this decision? She said it is extremly rare for this to be cancer. She also said that it could impact gall stones later? I am not sure what to think now. I am very excited about having the band, but should I question my doctor's choice...confused as H! I might call the other nurse who I was workign with but was out today and get her thoughts. I just feel the doctor did not give me any reasons for his decision. It is a tough spot! Can't wait to hear from everyone who was banded today. Hope you are all doing GREAT!

Newly Banded in Williamsburg
Hello Gina, I recieved news back from my preopt tests and had to go back yesterday for a ultrasound on my gallbladder. The office called me and left me a voice mail late yesterday saying there is a polyp on my gallbladder and after they discuss with doctor today they will call me! did a little research and I am afraid now my gallbladder will need to come out putting my band off. I am not happy about it. I guess I will wait until today before jumping to conclusions! My son is getting married on July 7 and if it is rescheduled then I am going to wait until after that, but I may not have a choice waiting for the galbladder. I am stressed. Hope all is going well with you! How are you handling the heat and eating/drinking!

Becky, Well, my utlra sound is over and maybe you can give me some thoughts! The nurse called and left me a voice mail and said I have a polyp on my gallbladder and after she talks to the doctor, she will call me tomorrow. Well, I researched it and they said most likely polyps are not cancer but if they are large they can hold malignant cells. I am thinking the doctor will want to remove my gallbladder! Right!:cry I talked with my husband and I know that the bright side, if there is one, is that if not for my preopt tests, I would not know it was there. I have had polyps on my colon when I had colonoscopies but they were removed and I am fine. I fear the band surgery will be put off now for months due to this! I also have my son's wedding on July 7. I am not very happy tonight. I guess I need to wait and see what the call brings tomorrow. Hope all is well,

I just hope the results clear me! I am sorry so many of you are dealing with rude friends and people who ae nasty to you! It takes a strong person to do what we are doing and to make a life change. Those who bailed don't understand the depth of weight problems, and not sure they would. As we grow thinner we will find the strength and confidence to move forward to exciting lives. Hang in there!

Lapband in the DC Area
Tweetygirl, Glad all went well at your doctor's. I live in northern Virginia and I am going to a hospital in Richmond, Commonwealth Surgeons. I picked them over Fairfax group due to others that went to them. No one for Band but gastric bypass. I met the doctor in person last week and he was a bit dry and had a slow response to humor, but that is a sergeon. His staff that does much of the people work are fantastic. St. Mary's hospital have a floor, or section of a floor, for weight loss surgery only. The nurses have gone through special triainings. I guess there is a new certification for hospital nurses now that they told us about at one of our meetings. Not sure since my date is June 7, that will be impacted. But it does mean they are all dedicated to one area of medicine. when is your date? I am not sure anyone would go to a generic surgeon.

Becky, Thanks for your support. I am not afraid of the test itself, just the results. as long as it does not require a needle, I am fine! Now my MD and my surgeon have different opinions of my thyroid dosage? Not sure what that is about, I will be on the phone again today to figure that one out. I thought this was going to be an easy fix. I am on the preopt, and cheated with some popcorn. My son made homemade from scratch popcorn for a movie, then did not eat it and it was sittting there staring at me! I had a little bit, prior to the pre opt I would have finished it! I have been doing 100% but like everyone is saying they are all different. I can have vegies and 4 oz of protein, and a yogurt/cottage cheese. If it was all liquid like some of you, I think I would go nuts. Wow the taste and swallow feedback, it all makes sense! Sorry for those of you trying it, it did not appeal to me. Have a great Wednesday everyone. I am jealous for you June 1 Banders. I can't wait to cheer you on.

Becky, Thank you for all your info. As you can see above, I have an ultrasound on Thursday. I am hoping it is fine for I really don't want to have my surgery postponed!

:cool:Heather, I know what you mean. It is all so different. I guess I feel do what your doctor says and know that some vairiation would not hurt. I would not change my pre opt because of the fear of my liver not shrinking, regardless of what doctor is more on target! But post opt, I am not sure I could stay on liquids for two weeks like some. My diet is a week and then I go back to the doctor, at which time they assess me for soft/mushies. I looked at my sheet and I will be able to have: Low carb carnation breakfast, skim milk - hospital then: clear liquids, crystal light, sugar fee kool-aid, etc full liquids - skim milk, 1%, low carb carnation drink, sugar free fudgesicles,low-fat creamed soups strained, blenderized low-fat chicken noodle or chicken and rice soup, slim fast high protein drink, 4 0z of no sugar added juices a day, limit caffeine. And a big bottle of WINE!!! JUST KIDDING!!!!!!! When I met with the nurse practitioner that does most of the visits after the surgery and the fills, she made me feel more human. gave me some alternatives and said we have choices.

June 2007 Bandsters
Hello all: Well, my surgeons office called today and I have an appointment on Thursday for an ultrasound of my galbladder. If it shows nothing my surgery is on for June 7, but if my galbladder needs to come out that has to be done and my surgery rescheduled. I am so worried at this point!!! I hope that nothing is wrong.I have been on this pre opt diet now for 5 days, and most likely will need it for the galbladder too, who knows. I told my husband that if my surgery is cancelled this is a sign, and maybe I should not have it???? Am I getting cold feet or being stupid! Heather- I am sorry for your rough day, only 2 DAYS left. You can do it. I have a pedicure and nail appointment tomorrow, clear polish only! But it will be nice. When will you get the tests results. Lisa-be careful with the last supper! I did not read all my materials that I had to bring to my surgeons consult last week, and when I read the one paper that I could not gain more than 5 lbs. since my first visit, NO surgery! I was sweating it out! I gained 4!!! Have a good birthday. Welcome Pippz! Lisa H- I never heard of the taste and spit thing! Sounds funny, not sure I can do that. But when I am on day 10 or 14, I might! Thank you Babygrl for checking in on us! GOOD LUCK TO THE JUNE 1ST BANDERS! JANINE

Psych Visit Questions??
Felicia, I had to complete several questionaires, on behavior, history and knowledge of nutritian. Some of them were interesting and before answering I had to think what they wanted to hear, sounds manipulative but wasn't. But if you feel like you have failed to big and you were Never able to control your eating, I felt when talking to the psyhologist, that would have been a bad thing. They wanted to know like others said you have the correct motivation, knowledge of some nutritian and awareness of your triggers. You would think that this would disqualify you, but it supports it. Does this make sense? the person I saw was recommended by my surgeon, so I think they work together. She had experience doing many of the evaluations. Good luck! This was not stressful. Try to relax. Becky, What is AST and ALT? They did not say anything on the phone, to be honsest I don't know what they said, I only remember billirubin, symptoms and talking to the doctor. I really don't want to have my surgery canceled! That will stink big time. Are you a nurse? I know there are other Junies who are nurses, any thoughts?

Sorry for my double posting!!! I was not bragging at all, I am not sure what my computer issues are today! I may still have pinesol in my brain. I cleaned all day yesterday, scrubbed baseboards, windows, etc. I am trying to get my house in order for my sons wedding July 7. I figure I may not be able to do all the bending and reaching. WELCOME!!!!!!!!!! ALL NEW JUNE BANDSTERS. 2bhealthy, most of us have done the yoyo dieting and that is why I think the band is for us. I to understand the eye roll. I really hate that, it makes you feel like you will fail before you start. But this time is for real and forever. We are going through to much not to suceed. MusicalMomma I to have a headache this morning. Not sure if it is the diet, but I woke up with an almost migrane. I took some tylenol and it feels better already. Hang in there. This weekend is hard not having a margarita and hanging on the porch on a holiday weekend, but I have been busy, which I plan to continue today. Happy Memorial Day!

May 2007 Banders
Hello Maysters! I am being banded in June and reading all your experiences is giving me inspiration. I hope you don't mind me crashing your thread! It is great learning from each other, those that are ahead of us in the journey, those at the same pace and those waiting for the answers! I am on my pre opt diet and had my pre opt tests. I found out yesterday something showed up in my blood tests regarding my gallblatter. I have no symptoms of problems, but the nurse said she needed to talk to the surgeon on Tuesday. I am praying it does not stall my date. Anyone have this issue? Good luck to all of you this weekend! Janine

Heather and others, This is a posting technical question. How do you put those strips at the bottom, you all have different ones; train ride, hearts, flowers, posting your bmi and weight progress? I would like to add that but can't figure it out. Help!

June 2007 Bandsters
Good morning insub- I to appreciated all the pre opt tests I took this week. The lead Nurse Practitioner called me yesterday at 5, when I was leaving from work, I was worried as to what they found. She asked about my gallblatter because my billiruben( not sure spelling) was something?? She asked of symptoms, which I have none. She said she would talk to the doctor Tuesday. Any ideas from folks if this put a stop to surgery. I feel like, take that out too, maybe it weighs something! Also I am anemic, need to take my vitamens, which I knew. This weekend was my first one on the preopt. Not having my glass of wine, salsa and chips or going out to dinner, was hard, but I did fine. I just have to get through the weekends which will be the most difficult, but maybe I will see how I need to change my patterns. Suzzzie- Hang in there! The time will come. Don't give up. I know how frustrating that wait can be. I think the surgical coordinator hated receiving my emails, which I sent asking her questions, etc. Hope your weekend went well! Janine

Popcorn! Wow, movies here I come...LOL I was told yesterday junk food just goes straight down, it has not nutrients and disolves. But I agree, Pop corn usually is harder to digest, but sounds good. you can eat the low fat, low salt, kind. it is a healthy snack. Thanks for the informaiton on the wedding and eating. I am sure I can find some soft stuff! Would pasta hurt me then since I won't have a fill and the opening is not as tight? The reception is at my house beleive it or not! It will be totally crazy. Janine
