  1. Thank you so much. :-) I'm excited and scared all at the same time! Linda
  2. Its going to be a long journey. I think the hardest part is to come. Hopefully, taking the weight off will help the other stuff resolve. Its good to know that you've been able to come down so much on your meds. I hope it continues for you. Linda
  3. Ok. I read through quite a few entries here, and I've gained insight and encouragement through Tawnya's story. I have decided to begin my own. Recently, I've been diagnosed with High Blood Pressure, and have pre-diabetic conditions. My weight has ballooned to 299.2, with a very high BMI. I'm also short. I also have other disorders... some related to weight, some not. More on that later. My husband and I talked with my medical doctor today. We all came to the same conclusion. I need some sort of gastric bypass in general, and have decided to go with the lapband. I found that my insurance won't pay, but will pay for most of it (I swear that's what they said). They will only pay if there is a medical condition attached to me. I have decided on a hospital, and will hear from them this week. So my journey begins. Updates as they come in.... Linda
  4. Replying to my own post (lol) I'll start my journey in a new thread (Linda's Journey) Linda
  5. Tomorrow marks day one with the doctor. I finally admitted to my husband exactly how much I weigh. That was HUGE and really hard. Hubby will be going through this with me, including the appointment tomorrow. I'll probably do the rest on my own, but with his support. I have several co-morbid diseases. High blood pressure, thyroid problems, TKR, granuloma annulare (skin), and bipolar disorder. Yay me. I'm glad you're doing well and that you are not in pain. I don't own a scale. Guess I'll have to get one. Don't disappear on us. I really do care what happens to you, and as I said before, you are an inspiration. Linda
  6. I don't know what is going to happen. I know insurance said they *won't* cover it, but they will. What that means is that they 1 - won't cover it just for the heck of it. 2 - they will only cover it if I'm morbidly obese (which I am), and 3 - that I also have to have other complications with it (which I do). I am afraid though, that I may have too many complications. I'm on a lot of different medications that I simply cannot do without. I know I'll have to jump though a lot of hoops before I get to the actual surgery. Its depressing and overwhelming. What has not happened, through lots of months of exercise and extreme diet is weight loss. This is partially due to the medications I take. Damned if I do, Damned if I don't. Thanks again. How are YOU doing right now? Linda
  7. Tawnya, I just found this place, and saw your blog. I will have my first consultation with my regular medical doctor on Tuesday, and will be starting the process through insurance, nutritionists, etc. Reading your story has been an inspiration to me, and I hope I'll read more from you in the weeks and months to come. You've made a difference in my life, and I wanted to let you know that. Linda
