  1. Hi, I'm new to this and am also looking for a lap band mentor. I got banded on 7/16/08 by Dr. Spivak. BTW, does anyone know how long it takes for the bloating from the surgery to die down?
  2. Speaking of 1st period after banding; how is the flow? Is it the same or is it lighter/heavier?
  3. Statiscally, I've been told the average loss is 50% of excess weight loss, long term. Clearly some do better and some do worse. I got banded on 7/16/08 and plan on succeeding. I think attitude makes a big difference.
  4. I thought bread, past and rice were forbidden? At least they are on the forbidden list fron Dr. Spivak's office.
  5. Hi Melissa. I just got banded by Dr. Spivak on July 16, 2008. I was wondering how you were doing now. Have yoiu reached your goal and are you still a part of the monthly support group at Dr. Spivak's office?
  6. what does PBing mean?
  7. I got banded on 7/16/08 by Dr. Spivak and was wondering if there were any other Spivak banders using this site? It's nice to exchange information with all of the banders here but it would also be nice to exchange info with those who used the same doctor.
  8. Sorry to hear about your bowel back up Patunia. Triple Leaf Super Slimming Herbal Tea works better than any other laxative I've ever tried. Guaranteed to have a movement within 8 hours and once you start, you may go a couple of times within the same hour and then you're back to normal.
  9. I don't know if it's because I have a killer toothache but I have no more discomfort at all from the surgery. I can "feel" the port and the incisions sites are itching (I guess they are healing). Coincidentally, I got an infection in my lower left molar and it's hurting so bad that I don't really notice any other discomforts.
  10. I thought it might be cool to have a thread going with those that were banded by Dr. Spivak. I'm new so there may already be one on this site which I haven't found already; if so, please let me know.
  11. My Dr. said liquids for just 24-48 hours. Now on soft mushy food for the next 3 weeks. No meat except fish. I'm hungry all the time but I'm pysched about losing 8.5 pounds in 4 days. That's never happened before on any diet. I began eating tomato soup with a bit of fish and mashed potatos smashed in (MRS Dash for seasoning) and it was incredibly good but it took me 20 minutes to eat 1 cup because i chewed and chewed the fish until there literally was nothing left to swallow. The whole time I was eating, I was afraid.
  12. I'm scared to eat because I'm terrified that I will stretch my pouch and cause band slippage. It's a bit weired to be afraid to eat. Does anyone else have this fear?
  13. Do you find that when you exercise you get hungrier? Before my banding I exercised and felt great but did not lose any weight because it really kicked in my metabolism and made me so hungry that I ate more food so whatever I burned off, I consumed in excess calories.
  14. In your quote you say band got you to your goal and the sleeve will keep you there. Can you explain the sleeve comment?
  15. Wow, Becky! You are an inspiration! I got banded on 7/16/08 and have lost 9 lbs so far. I am a bit concerned that the average is 50% of excess weight loss and am hoping/planning on reaching my goal.
  16. What is PBing? I got banded 7/16/08 so most of this is new to me.
  17. I was banded on 7/16/08 by Dr. Spivak in Houston, TX. He has 24-48 hours liquids, then 4 weeks of soft, mushy foods (no meat except fish that can be mushed into baby food consistency). I am hungry but do get full fast on very little food; then hungry again within a couple of hours.
  18. Wow! Congrats on reaching your goal! How long have you been at your goal and how awesome does it feel?
  19. How are you doing now that you are 3 weeks along? Have you had your fill yet? Were you also hungry?
  20. how do you get the weight tracker?
  21. Unfortunately, my insurance specifically excludes weight loss surgeries so I had to self-finance. But that's OK as I've been told with most insurance companies it's such a long process it would take a minimum of 6 months and most often 1 year before the insurance companies will finally approve.
  22. Hello everyone. I just got banded on Wednesday by Dr. Spivak in Houston, Texas. I am surprised at how hungry I am. I didn't have a great deal of pain and today I feel almost normal except for the gas bloating. Has anyone else in here felt hungry right after the banding?
