  1. I was wondering what "PB" meant. I had all sorts of ideas. That wasn't one of them. Thanks!
  2. You guys are great. Just what I needed to hear, every one of you.
  3. Hi there: I have always been scared of vomiting, and haven't thrown up in about 20 years. Obviously, I understand there is a real possibility of throwing up after I have the surgery. I also understand that if I follow suggestions and directions from my surgeon, it is less likely to happen. I guess I just wanted a little pat on the back. And any stories that will make me feel better (like, "Oh, it's not so bad....!") Hoping to hear from you, Blue

  5. Hey y'all -- I'm out in the Hampsters. I know, the East End isn't REALLY Long Island.... Getting banded August 27 down in Tijuana, but doing follow-ups with Dr. Allam in Southampton. Nervous and excited. You all sound like you're doing so well! Gives me hope. Blue
  6. I'll be at the Marriott in Tijuana on the 26th and 27th.....thanks for the advice, going to check out the other thread.
  7. Hi -- I posted this before, but I may have not been as specific as I should have been.....I'm not so much worried about the travel as I am about the actual surgery, and being alone in the hotel after the lap-band has been placed. I have the surgery on August 27 with Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. Has anyone else done this on their own? Thank you so much, Blue
  8. August 27th with Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana -- just booked it!
  9. Thanks, everyone. I'm going to have to go it alone, but this is all very helpful. :-)
  10. Hey Slo - Scheduling with Dr. Ortiz on August 27 -- we'll just miss each other! Blue
  11. I'm about to schedule a lap-band with Dr. Ortiz on Monday, August 27. My husband is so backed-up at work, I don't think he can come with me. Has anyone flown to TJ and back alone? How did you feel after surgery? And is the Marriott really super-clean? I'm scared I'll see some big cockroach or moth and FREAK OUT all alone!
  12. OH, duh, just saw the name of your surgeon on your post!
  13. That's a good price -- who is the surgeon or the group?
  14. I can't wait to hear how it went, slojo. Keep us informed!
  15. I need to hear more stories like this, Lydia. Thank you, you completely told my story in your opening paragraph (except I luckily have a very loving and supportive husband and THREE kids - 23, 16, and 12. Could you please message me the doctor you used? I have made contact with Dr. Almanza and Jerusalem Hospital, but I've heard some negative comments about the location of the clinic. Thanks, Blue Heron
  16. Thanks, there is a local doctor, and it says on his site that he will do fills even if the surgery was held elsewhere for $250 per fill. But I will call when they're open to triple-check.
  17. Hi all: I live in NY State, I'm 5'1", and weigh just under 200 pounds. I've battled weight my whole life, and in the last couple of years -- surprise, surprise -- I just can't lose, but I can gain at the drop of a hat. I am looking into Lap Band surgery that I can afford, since I have no insurance and am not eligible for Care Credit because of a bankruptcy a couple of years ago. Looking for a good package deal. Found the Tijuana doctors first, but I still have all those fears about going to Mexico for surgery. I'm sure there have been 1000s of great experiences, but of course, the press has always focused on the failures. I also found Dr. Weaver in Denver, who offers a package for under $9K, which is about the most I can afford. Still looking to see if there are other states before I bite the bullet and head South of the Border. Hope to hear back from you! Blue Heron
  18. Hi all -- This is my first post. I've been looking into this for a while, but we have no insurance and we had a bankruptcy a few years back so I can't get financing. HOWEVER -- -- we just got a nice tax refund and my husband and I agree that we would be happy with me finally having Lap-Band surgery. I found Dr. Weaver in Denver, who performs the surgery for $8900, but I'm on the East Coast, and was just wondering if anyone had heard of any other bariatric surgeons offering comparable packages on the East Coast, or even the mid-West. I can't wait to get started! Warmly, Blue Heron
