  1. I have to be honest here... Within the last 6 months of researching WLS I have to say at some point or another I have felt that there were good qualities of each type of surgery- and at some point I was very confused as to which surgery would be good for my situation. At first I Was all about the DS- most powerful weight loss surgery, quickest loss, most likely the best option to keep that weight off forever. Then I started to feel very uncomfortable with re routing the intestins- and the Vitamin deficiencies that often cause havoc in years post op. I then came across a article where they actually stumbled upon the VSG by accident because some surgeons were performing the DS two fold. The sleeve first then after the patient would lose significant weight the second part (the switch- re routing the intestines) was done. What was interesting is that patients were actually losing plenty of weight during the first half of surgery and not needing the second phase done- creating the VSG surgery as a stand alone WLS. I guess my question is- did anyone regret just doing the sleeve- or seriously consider the DS as an surgery option? I wonder what effect the switch really has on long term weight loss and if the risk is worth the lifetime of supplements, bowel issues, and malabsorption conditions patients are sure to have. Any thoughts????
  2. My surgeons office told me yesterday that within the last month or so they are now requiring 3 months supervised diet instead of 6. So you are right! It will make it faster for sure!
  3. I have Cigna. I'm just starting to put my paperwork in for approval- it seems like they are pretty good, as long as you meet all requirements. I hope they are fast- I'm very impatient! Good luck to you!
  4. I am in the 6th month of my weight loss program required by my insurance company Cigna. Today at my surgeons office I was told that Cigna has very recently changed from a 6 month requirement to only a 3 month medical supervised weight loss program to meet. I wish I would have had this info a few months ago- so of you are insured with them you might want to look into it! Hope this info helps someone else out!
  5. Hi everyone. Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. My name is Emily- I'm in the first stages of qualifying through my insurance. I have Cigna and I am completing my 6 month supervised diet this month- (which I found out today that Cigna has very recently changed that from 6 months to 3 months). My psyc eval is done, my regular MD is preparing my surgery clearance and recommendation- so after all that I'll be set. Then the waiting game begins! Anyone else have good advice for qualifying quick and smooth through Cigna?
