Are there any other Sleep Apnea Sufferers out there?
Isn't it crazy? Just to clarify, I averaged abt 50 per hour during the sleep study but not all of them were completely when you stop breathing. Some were apneas and some hypoapnea. The way I understand it hypoapneas are when you are partially obstructed but not completely cut off from air. I had a sleep study done 3 years ago because I'm constantly EXHAUSTED and i wasn't as bad. When I went back as part of my pre surgery testing, I am now classified as having severe apnea. I guess because I weigh more now. I had another rough night with the cpap. I'm really not doing well with this machine. I was hoping that if I have to look like Darth Vader, at least I would feel more rested. Hence another reason why I need this band!

Smokey2112...it's here!
Smokey, Well, this is it! You are the first of our Feb banders to take the plunge. I cannot wait to hear your surgery report. Remember: we don't expect you to hop back and post away but when you are up to it, just a quick note that tells us you are fine. You can even just send one of us a message and we will post it here. I hope you have an easy surgery and recovery. I just know you are going to ROCK THAT BAND! Best wishes!! Justplaintired

Pre Op meeting with surgeon done sooooooooooooo
Smokey, So THAT explains your fabulous sense of humor. It is always those who have had the toughest time who are able to joke freely. I'm so sorry you have had to deal with such a creep! I'm so very happy you are divorced from him (even if it means you are poor). What are you going to school for? I ask because I have a BS in Business Admin but I'm thinking of going back to school to be an RN. I'm hoping I start getting more energy once I lose this weight and I will have the guts to go back and completely change careers. P

Are there any other Sleep Apnea Sufferers out there?
Am I the one who cannot get used to this miserable CPAP torture device? I have had it for a month now and I'm not doing very well with it. I have the nasal pillow kind now (had the nose mask for a week) and I think this is the smallest mask there is. And yet, I still have a very hard time dealing with it! I feel like I'm suffocatng OR I wake up in the middle of the night with it off and blowing onto my face (or dh's face-LOL). I swear, I am not getting better sleep with this thing than when I was having 50 apneas per hour. WTH?!

FEBRUARY ROLL CALL
I don't know everyone's surgery dates but I thought this could be a good place to start a list in one place. Maybe you could copy the one ahead of yours and add onto it so eventually it will be on one list? I'll Start: 2/11/11-Justplaintired

Feb 9, 2011 is my big day!
Hey Bunnykins, There are a bunch of us who are being banded right around your date. I'm 2/11. I have a week long liquid diet beginning on 2/4. I want to get this show on the road already!!! The EGD isn't bad at all. I was surprised to find out that I had some issues (many small ulcers, inflammation in esoph, and stom). But that explains all of the issues that I have had for ages and assumed were just part of getting older or being overweight or that I don't have a gall bladder, etc. The doc put me on prilosec every morning and I am a new woman! I wish I had gone to a GI doc a year or so ago when this all started! So, I thank my pre-op testing for that!! Good luck to you at your EGD.

I feel your pain, Big Tom!
If I haven't taken my Hyzaar prior to a weigh in, it can be very depressing. I totally know what you mean about the scale showing an increase for ANY reason. Just remember that you will definitely look like a champ next week! We are all going to lose a nice amt when we do our pre-op diets. I'm betting that YOU are going to be our super star. Men lose nicely on any diet and with the restriction it will melt off of you and we are all going to be JEALOUS! LOL Does Optifast have high Protein content? I need to decide what shake I will use for my pre-op.

Pre Op meeting with surgeon done sooooooooooooo
Grrrrr...I just wrote a whole post and it vanished! Why does that happen sometimes? Anyway, I wish you the best on Friday. I know you will be fine and I can't wait to hear from you!! Even if you are not up to typing up a real post, maybe you could just type a quickie on here that says..."I'm fine; more later..." This way we won't worry! You did move quickly with the entire process. I forget, are you self pay? I was rather quick being that I started in December but you are amazingly fast! About going alone...don't feel funny. I'm sure lots of people go alone. There are lots of us who, like you, haven't told everyone. I have told some people but only dh knows as far as family goes. I didn't want my siblings to have to keep a secret from my mom. I'm not telling my mom because I didn't want her to worry or to make ME worry more. Last year when I was considering the surgery my mother got all nervous and worked up about it. oy!

What is the best protein drink?
I'm hoping to find the best tasting protein drink that has the most protein. I want something that will fill me up and not make me gag. I've only tried unjury vanilla and that was pretty good. I'm also thinking about buying that whey stuff to add to things to get that protein in and hopefully keep the hungries away. I start one week pre-op diet and I'm almost anxious to begin. I say almost because I have heard that pretty much everyone on the forums is starving on the pre op diet. I guess I'm just so anxious to start losing weight! No more excuses, no more last hurrahs, exercise must begin... HERE'S TO A NEW ME IN 2011! Cheers!

Got my surgery date...
Oh, I hope it is normal because I feel the same way sometimes. I think I am most worried about it not working or that I feel miserable without my favorite (read: trigger) foods. I had my gall bladder removed laproscopically so I'm not really afraid of the surgery. I'm just scared of the enormity of it all. I feel like I'm breaking up with an old friend... Sometimes I know you have to end a friendship if it is damaging... At the end of the day, we know we are doing the right thing. We wouldn't have gone this far if we didn't know!

HELP PLEASE! - WHAT HAPPENS ON FIRST POST OP DR. VISIT?
Rosey, I honestly don't know as I haven't had the surgery yet. Maybe you should pop over to the post op forum where some of the experienced banders can help you out. Congratulations on your surgery and best wishes with your band!

Are you worried about how spouse (or SO), is going to deal?
I know this is going to be such a huge change for me. While my dh is supportive of the surgery, I sincerely wonder how he is going to be when I cannot eat like a normal person for quite awhile. REPHRASE: I won't be able to eat like he does. My husband is athletic, in shape, physically fit, etc. He is very good about keeping his weight under control. He likes to eat but he doesn't have the addictive tendency that I have with food. He stays active and I'm sure that is why he is not overweight because he does like good food and has a good appetite. I worry that he will try to tell me how to eat or what to eat. I know that it is going to seem very strange (and unhealthy) to him in the beginning stages. I also wonder what it is going to be like when we socialize. I will not be able to indulge like I'm known to. Will socializing still be fun for me? Do I know how to have found without food/drink? I am strongly considering going to therapy post op to deal with all of these things. Is anyone else going? Does anyone else have these concerns or worries? Thx.

High Protein/Low Carb
This is where it is going to get tricky for me. I am not a huge Protein eater. In fact, I was a vegetarian for about 13 years. I am also the type of person that when I try to chew protein about 20-30 times, I want to vomit. It brings back all sorts of bad memories of being a kid and crying at the dinner table because I didn't want to eat. LOL Seriously, I believe that for the most part I am going to be relying on Protein shakes to make sure I get enough protein. I know that my entire eating lifestyle is going to change drastically. I won't really be able to eat a lot of the foods I like. I would think that the Atkins diet (btdt) would work but I'm thinking you will be better off updating it a bit (like South Beach?). JMHO, of course. Very good question. I'm curious to see what others are doing.

February 2011 Bandsters?
Is here anywhere on this site where ev'ery month could have a forum. I could swear I saw it somewhere. Then each person could post topics and we'd be able to see them. It wouldn't clog up this forum for others. I dunno...just thinking out loud. What do you think? Congrats to everyone else who has a date and is approved. The time is going by fast! Yes, pretty weird being told to just maintain. I am by no means thin or fit! I am miserable with my cpap mask and for that reason alone, I'm desperate to lose so I can get off this miserable thing! Not to mention, I'm uncomfortable, unhappy with my appearance...want off BP meds, etc. I was LOL at one of the other posters who said..."let's kick fat's ass!" LOVE IT!!!
