Surgery - December 27th!

I have to say that throughout the last month, this blog site has been my savior! I appreciate all the comments, encouragement, and support that everyone on here seems to share. I'm currently a week away, and on my low-carb diet... it hasn't been too bad at all. It's funny; I was telling my husband last night that prior to surgery authorization, I was on top of everything! Speedy to get my psych evaluation, my blood draws and everything for approval. Now that I've received it, and my surgery date is next week, I'm lagging! By that, I mean I have this whole bowl full of chewable Vitamins, Protein drinks, powders, liquids etc. that my NUT has given me, and I have only tried one thing. What am I waiting for??

I think I am subconsciously really nervous... has anyone had second thoughts? I do know that this is a life changer and I am soooo ready for that change. Maybe just pre-surgery jitters. That's what I'm chalking it up to.

Best to all of you throughout your endeavors and a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

-Stephanie

So glad to see all of you are doing so well. The first few weeks are difficult with trying to figure out when/how to eat (or rather drink) but it will get easier. Hope you all have a very Happy New Year!!!

Wow! Time is ticking by! What I am most excited about is that my gas is gone! WooHooo!!! Before I was DC'd from the hospital I talked to a gal that had the sleeve a week before me and told me she was just advanced to scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes, etc. I know how important clear liquids and protein shakes are to this first phase but I can say that I will enjoy getting my protein from natural sources as this diet advances! My surgery day weight was 286 and today I am down to 279. Fellow Sleevers- this is OUR year! Our year to be Healthy! Our year to be happy!!! I wish everyone a Happy New Year and hang in there......we got this :)

See ya in 2013!

Hey you guys Im home and feeling great! This surgery was nothing like I expected. I can't believe I'm in no pain and I feel so great! No nausea after surgery. Was up and walking around the hospital after the first initial surgery day because I was so sleepy in and out. Just wanted to give you guys my status and update. Oh yeah I was.suppose to have my.surgery on the 27th but 28th is the day God had his own plans. I go by his anyday! Pain free in Tx

i'm so jealous! im still in pain. did anyone else have a hernia repair? i'm thinking this is why my pain is so high unless its just the fact that i'm a big wimp! Lol. hopefully today will be better for me. just feeling extremely blessed to have come as far as i have come. good luck to everyone else in your recoveries. :)

I had a hernia repair and I am still in some pain.

thanks, now i dont feel like such a crybaby. are you still taking the liquid pain meds? i finally cut the dose in half and am able to take off the binder.

I have some pain in my left side when getting up and down but it's very tolerable. The pain in my left side was better when I had the pain pump "on Q" ball still in.

I am taking liquid loratab. I am taking 1tsp every four hours. I really hope to be taking Tylenol by tomorrow night.

i just wanna be "feeling great" like everyone else. i told me husband "its been 4 whole days" and he was like "duh, its ONLY been 4 days". i think i am expecting too much too soon. so i decided to take it easy for a couple more days and just rest. my husband caught me folding the laundry and freaked out on me a little bit, Lol. everyone heals different and i am learning all about patience with this.

True. Don't push it. I have some pain in my side and I burp like crazy but all and all I think it's going quite well for me. Must work on getting some Protein in. Hang in there girl!

I had my surgery dec 27th I'm so jealous I am in some pain and Im nauseous and my stomach hurts idk if its because I have never had surgery before and I have a low tolerance to pain but I'm also having a hard time drinking the protein my bf is relentless he seems to only care about what the directions the dr told me to do and not that I can't physically do it like gettin in 50 g of protein in one day I feel like I made a mistake and I am so jealous everyone here is having a great experience that's what I want I hate feeling so depressed

Oh now wait a minute! I said I felt pretty good not that I was getting the right amount of protein or liquids! Lol. Hang in there!!

I couldn't meet any of my goals, I just sipped all day. Sometimes a protein drink, mostly a water with crystal light. Don't force yourself. Keep some fluid next to you at night so if you wake up you can sip a little.

Your healing from major surgery, give your body time, this isn't how its going to be forever, I promise.

Focus on you and let yourself heal.

It will get better :)

ok, next question. (sorry if i'm nagging :/). my nut told me my first priority is to get in the fluids (try to get 64oz, hasn't happened yet), and my second priority is Protein (start at 30gms, increase to 60 then 80, i haven't done too bad). my question is, what about calorie?. i've tracked the last two days since i've been home and haven't reached 400 calories a day. should i be concerned about this? or is this something that comes later when it's a little easier to maintain once i'm off of just fluids? by the way. . . . it's still crazy to me that i can't get in enough calories, considering what i used to eat, but that's a whole different topic. any thoughts?

p.s hot tea has been my savior for getting in some of my fluids :)
