Will pills get stuck?

I am totally paranoid about medication getting stuck. I cannot figure out why it's okay to take medication/vitamins when you can't eat solid food.

I have not taken my Calcium since the day before my surgery (last week) because this is a large tablet, and I hate taking the Vitamin C and the metformin. I have cut the metformin tabs into 4 pieces and that helps, but I am sure one got stuck this morning because as I was drinking my Protein drink a while after taking my meds this morning I became aware of a sensation like a plug getting pulled and my esophogus draining. It was very strange.

What does everybody else do about medication and Vitamins?

I have a pretty tight fill and I take pills.

I take them with warm ( almost hot) Water. Warm water will open the band.

I take on with a lot of water then wait awhile and take the next one. I take 9( prescriptions, Vitamins, supplements) in the morning and about 5 in the evening.

If I try to take one and then another one without waiting long enough in between, I have problems.

I take atenolol - tiny pill like a BC pill with no problems - I don't crush

I have chewable Vitamins & sublingual b-complex...

I have liquid vicoden and tylenol - it works faster than taking a pill -

Yes, I take progesterone at night. It's a big yellow capsule. I take it with a big glass of warm almost hot water every night.

Very good question. I have a fair amount of meds I take now which I am hoping will stop once my weight starts to come down. Not banded yet but am learning so much here.

The first time I ever threw up was the day after my first fill. I tried to take my medications like I normally did, and I was surprised when they wouldn't go down, and finally came back up.

I have taken meds since day 1, 1 pretty big, never had a problem with getting stuck, but I guess each person will be different.

Jaqui, I was just wondering who did your surgery. I am scheduled for 1-24 with Dr. Dyer at Centennial.

HI yvonne, i'm Lizzy, hope u feeling ok just just a sugestion why don't u crush tabs up and put them on a spoon with milk i know they don't taste to good but they shoulden't stick also do the same with capsules but just open them amd empty them onto spoon, u should be able to swollow capsuales soon good luck Lizzy

I haven't had any problems taking Vitamins. I used Flinstones chewables. They are kind of yummy. I tried liquid vitamins, but they were so nasty the thought of drinking it made me heave. I am still looking for a chewable Calcium that tastes decent. I bought one that was "vanilla" flavored that was horrible and I have pretty much avoided calcium.

P.S. My NUT warned me to not start taking calcium until I was up to the full 64 oz of Water a day to prevent kidney stones.

I eat those every day. I love them!

I take Bariatric Advantage chewable multi Vitamin and Calcium. I also use the Any whey Protein powder in my coffee and on foods. It doesn't smell or taste funny. Just a slight vanilla smell. The Bariatric Advantage come in flavored tablets. The consistency is like eating a tums. They aren't bad.. but they sure do not taste like candy!

Just a caution on medications. I asked my pharmacist if my pills could be crushed or broken because some meds should NEVER be broken. I take meds for high cholesterol and blood pressure. The pharmacist researched each for me and found that my meds can be broken.

I've had my first fill, and so far haven't had to break any of my meds. I just have to take them one at a time.
