  1. Hello everyone, I had the lap band a year ago. I am happy I have it but not very happy with the staff at my Dr's office. I feel that they have no time for me as each time I went I would pay my $40.00 copayment and talk with a PA for about five minutes and no fill or even have them look at the band . If anyone knows of a Dr. In Levittown Ny please let me know. Thank you. Mary
  2. Hi Cat, I am so happy that you reached onderland. I know you worked hard to get there. Let me tell you I am in no hurry to get a fill any time soon. I hope you have a great trip. Please make sure that you keep in your wallet a note that will say that you have the lap band just incase. I was told this by another friend who had the band done. Take care of you safe trip, Mary
  3. Hi Jonathan, I have not had a fill as of yet. I am having a problem as well with food getting stuck. Think it is because I have started to eat fast again. No bread no Pasta ect . going back to see the Dr on Oct 11 I will ask them what to do. Take care of you. Mary
  4. Wow Chris good for you. I see the Dr tomorrow at 4pm. Not sure if I want a fill I too feel great now finding it hard to eat bread and that is with out a fill. I do find that I need to drink with my food how about you? Stay well. Mary
  5. I found that if I come back at them and say... you are right I am weak so weak that I want to see my kids grow up die old. I find that works very well, Let me say I am PROUD OF YOU for taking the step's to live longer and to be well. I wish you all the best. Stay well BE HAPPY. Mary
  6. Hi Kathy, It took me a year to get the band do to my husbands loss of work and that meant no insurance. Once I got my insurance from my job I went a head with the op, I would say 3 day's before my surgery I was thinking can I do this is this what I want? I think we all rethink the big things in our life. The day of the surgery I was not nervous at all I mean NOT AT ALL. I think this was because I was doing this for me and only me and it was the right thing to do. Do what is in your heart if it is right for you then you will do it if not then hey you did not or are not ready. Do not let anyone push you into or out of the op just know only what YOU want matters. Good luck in what ever you choose. Stay well stay safe. Mary
  7. Hello all, I got my Lap Band on July 25th. I told a few people at work about getting the op. One person I did not tell I knew she knew would have neg things to say. Well I felt bad as she kept saying is your health ok? She would hear the people at work say how is it going. I felt bad and let her in on what I chose to do. WISH I NEVER TOLD HER. This woman is say 120 pounds and thinks every one should diet and that people like myself are weak. Well let me tell you I told her a few things thanks to this group here (Lap Band Talk) I stood up for myself said I did this to save my life to see my kids have kids.and so on in a nice way as it is hard for me to be mean to others. Think that is why I would over eat do to the stress. I do have to say that when this person has lunch with me in the lunch room I find myself getting a stuck do to the stress to brings to the room. I have lost 21 pounds know how to eat but this gets me. My kids at home tell me what I can and can not eat still. I think I know what I can and can not eat at this point. I do try new things and if it hurts or makes me ill I do not eat it. I am one of those lucky one's that gets the sharp pain in my left shoulder if I eat to fast or too much. LOL Food Police Every Place I look. I know they mean well but come on. Thank you for letting me vent. Stay well stay happy. Mary
  8. Good question I had my op on July 25th and my tummy is still swollen. Mary
  9. I am so very happy for you welcome to the club. Just follow what ever the Dr. tells you and do not be afraid to ask the Dr. questions. You will be just fine just remember baby steps . So happy for you all the best. Mary
  10. I am so happy for you keep up the good work. Mary
  11. Hello Menis, I get this pain when I eat to much or to fast. I spoke to my Dr. I was told that I was lucky as most people do not get to feel the pain that lets them know they are over eating or eating to fast. Sad to say but I LOVE this pain. To me this pain is my wake up call to SLOW DOWN. Use this pain as a tool that will make you slow down. I wish you well. Mary
  12. I love what you wrote. I think you are spot on. Happy that you are on the right track. All the best to you. Mary
  13. Hello Cait, Don't worry the pain will get better trust me on that. I too am a side sleeper. I found that if you sleep with a few pillows it will help you sleep better. I found that the anesthesia took 4 days to get out of my system. If the pain gets to bad use ice packs they will help and something warm to drink did help me. I just want to say hang in there you will be just fine. Stay well stay happy and most of all baby steps. Mary
  14. Hi, Yes I had two sleep test was told the same thing. The Dr wants us to use the machine because we will be on our backs during the op and the recovery. They really are just plying it safe for both you and them. If you do not use the machine they will know as the information is stored on a card in the machine. I will tell you I hate that machine but no longer use it. Funny that some of the staff at the hospital told me that they have a CPAP machine and hate it as well. Good luck to you. Mary
  15. YES YES YES!!!!! I had to make sure my weight was 10 pounds higher to get the op. Funny when I went to the pre op I was told I lost weight and was just 3 pounds over to get the op. Good luck girl hope it all works out for you. Mary Oh by the way BEST THING I EVER DID LAP BAND....Did it for ME!!! Mary
  16. Hi, I have a the CPAP machine at home. It is no big deal someone came to my home hooked everything up showed me how to work it. once every few weeks I take the card out and bring it to the sleep Dr. They then read the information. As I said no big deal. What I would say is make sure they take your insurance as it can cost a lot. I was told I had to pay out of pocket and they were wrong 90% of it was taken care of by insurance. Good luck Mary
  17. Thank you. It feels good just doing the right thing without thinking
  18. Hello, I have found that if you look up Dr in your area on line and cross check to see who take's your insurance. You could also ask BCBS if they have a list of Dr's. As for the Dr that was mean to you and may I say there are a few out there. I would look up his name on Google and then rate him as a Dr. This is how I found my Dr. and I am so happy to have the Dr I have. Wish I could help more but I am in NY. Hang in there. Mary
  19. Hi all, I had my op on July 25th of this year. I have always been one of those people that would grab a quick cheap snack for lunch when at work and nothing for lunch if I was at home. After getting the band I somehow have learned to pick food better. When I was on my brake at work I walked down the snack food part of the store. Before the band I would have just got a bottle of Water and chip's. Well not anymore I walked past the chip's and got a Soup with 3 grams of Protein. Yes boy's and girl's I have started to learn to eat right and with the lap band I am going to win. So proud of me...lol Stay well all. Mary
  20. I am upset that that I will not be able to go to the meeting tonight as I do not have a car tonight. I do have to say that the meeting snuck up on me today. Lost track of the day's. I do hope to make a meeting soon. Please let me know how it went. Mary
  21. Hi, They will not make you run if you cannot run. I just had to walk fast till my heart rate went up. Do not worry you will be fine. Stay well. Mary
  22. I found coffee helped. My Dr said it was ok to drink it. Funny I love coffee would drink 2-3 cups a day. I am lucky if I can get 1/4 a cup down but it will help you poop trust me it helped. Oh do not panic if your poop come's out like chicken broth as mine did. I was told it was do to all the Water and broth and that was why it looked like that. I do have to say that just going poop for the first time after my op 5 days out felt so good. Funny how little thing we take for granted mean so much...lol. Stay well stay safe. Mary
