Spatters3 got a reaction from Krimsonbutterflies in Am I Going Crazy? My Personality Changed.yep - I was a horrible witch and all I could do was rage at everyone and everything ! And 2.5 months post-op I still have my moments, but I'm controlling it much better (or so I think). I think it must be hormones plus this is a major change on many different planes: can't handle stress with food anymore, our bodies hurt and thinks we're starving it.

Spatters3 got a reaction from JessLess in Couldnt Do Surgery-Liver SizeSending you home with no pain meds or instructions is just wrong. It doesn't sound like this outfit is a Bariatric Center of Excellance. Please call them and request that they call in a prescription and give you some instructions !
Also, I don't know how you feel about this but I personally would NOT let this surgeon touch me again.

Spatters3 reacted to 4ALongerLife in Jerks.Kimberlee, if your surgery is that close, part of what you are feeling is fear. Does any of this sound familiar to the voices going on in your head: Am I doing the right thing.. omg I'm scared... what if this happens... what if this doesn't happen.... what about my love for food, how is that going to change.
C'mon EVERYONE.. give the girl a break. We can all say that was a bratty moment if that's the wording you wish to use, but stop raking her over the coals. I know my arse has had quite a few of such moments.... especially right before surgery and especially whenever I've lost so much weight too fast and my body hasn't realized it and is making wayyyy too much estrogen. So here's what I got for you! What you are feeling.. it's NORMAL. I believe these co-workers can probably understand some of that too if you are close like you said you are, so they surely blew it off.
All I can do is this - encourage you. Please do NOT worry too much... your surgery and recovery will go fine. Just FOLLOW THE DR'S ORDERS. Do not rely on this board to give you all the right answers or directions. All of our dr's are different in some sort or fashion in the diets they use, views they express but they are the ones that know best (due to experience and years in medical school).
What I can provide for you is this - if you ever need a friend, pls know you have one right here in Dallas, TX. (You can always reach out to me if needed.)
Remember this mantra - you will need it for the next several weeks: THIS TOO SHALL PASS. Reach into your depths of emotion and find your inner strength ... this journey will make you find it, several times. It IS NOT easy. It IS NOT a magic wand. But one thing you have to remember - rejoice that you have the blessed opportunity to change your life because THIS WILL change your life. So no fears my dear ...... just hope. You got me?
Prayers and blessings wished for you as I wrote every single long winded word (and continue to do so) .... hang in there! xx

Spatters3 reacted to Meli01 in I Made It To Goal!I seriously never thought this day would come, but just short of 6 months post op I am at goal. I really thought I would be the person this surgery didn't work for. I haven't been this small since elementary school, and I couldn't be happier!!!

Funniest- maybe not. Coolest... yes!!!
I got out of a speeding ticket cause my drivers lic pic was insanely different than what I look like now.
After I convinced him that yes.... it IS me- he asked what happened. I told him about the surgery and he was pretty curious about the process and in the end let me go with a warning (warning to keep away from carbs and keep up the cardio!)
Yay for awesome life changes and the perks that go with them!

My daughter (she will be 4 in a few months) was looking at an OLD work ID picture. OLD from pre-lapband, even. I was around 400 lbs. I had a major, major round/pie face. She was like, "Mommy? Is that you?" I told her it was. And she said, "You kind of look like you. But kind of not. Did you got a new head?"
I recently straightened my hair, and cut it into a completely new style. I'd been wanting to for a while, but wanted to wait until my face had slimmed down a bit. So I've had the new style for a bit over a week. And I keep hearing, "Oh, I love your hair! It makes you look so much thinner!" And as I posted on MFP - Oh, or maybe it has something to do with the 85 lbs I've lost in the last 4.5 months, you jackhole!

Spatters3 reacted to deltadawn817 in Jerks.I don't expect the world around me to ever change. I am the one that chose to have this surgery and the world is going to stay as it was. I am the one that is going to have to deal with my eating issues in this world.
I hope this doesn't come across mean as that is not how I mean it. I just know 5months out I had battles bigger than I ever could imagine before surgery and they all came out after and I was slef medicating for everything with food.

Spatters3 reacted to nikki82 in Woooooo Hoooooo! Can we say HAPPY!?!?!?!?! Because, that's what I am!
I am officially out of the 300's and in the 2's. As of today I am 296.5lbs coming from 346 lbs in April. I thought I'd never break out of the 3's. I hoovered at 300.1 for 2 weeks and BAM! The 3's no more! and I'm never going back.. ya, hear me?! NEVER! lol
I am so happy with my sleeve. Matter of fact I'm in love with him. I call him Steve by the way.. "Steve the sleeve" lmbo and Steve brings me so much joy and happiness. I'm happy I made the decision to have VSG.. It's done me nothing but a ton of good, thus far.
Losing feels so good!!!

Spatters3 got a reaction from NDN_RN in Comment My Doctor Made That I Worry A Little About- Maybe Don't Look At This If Pre-Surgerywellll.... you will have 5 small incisions and they will smart a bit... but hey, you won't have the hangover Your surgeon was being, um, melodramatic and a tad insensitive. It didn't hurt that badly plus you will be supplied with good pain medication in case it does hurt. I only used the pain meds for a few days and I also had a large hernia repaired (which is what was hurting the most).

Spatters3 reacted to Wheetsin in Read A Post About Loving Yourself First Before Anyone Else Can And It Irked Me!I think it's human nature to be attracted to someone initially on physical appearance. Not only is it how we're wired, but it's kind of a no brainer because it's all we have. Celebrities wouldn't be celebrities if that weren't the case. I mean, we can't be attracted to someone we're seeing walk down the street because of things like intellect or personality that we just have no idea about yet. But no relationship is going to be based on that initial attraction. A "fling" may be, but not a relationship. I can't imagine sitting at a cafe, watching guys walking by, thinking, "Oooh, I bet he is smart as a whip..." or "Yum, he probably agrees with my philosophical viewpoints..." But that's just people watching, it's not how I'm going to decide whether or not to pursue someone.
I used to hear things like, "You don't act fat..." or "You don't carry yourself like a fat person..." If you walk around with your self-esteem squishing out each time you take a step, people can "see" that. When you walk with poise, people can "see" that too. And I think it reflects hugely on how people are perceived. Perhaps as much as their physical traits.
But on the flip side, I have found myself completely head-over-heels for a guy who I did not find remotely attractive, physically, when we first met. In fact I would have considered him, physically, to be fairly unattractive. The more I got to know him, the less it mattered. And eventually when I looked at him I did see him as an attractive guy and couldn't believe that he was ever not cute to look at (just like I might see a pic now of an ex that I used to think was hot, and wonder WTF I was thinking back then...)
When I met DH he was not my "type". He was, and pretty much is, the opposite of what I would typically go for, physically. But it doesn't matter. We've been together for 17 years, married for 15, and he's still smoking hot.

Spatters3 got a reaction from MinaT in Foster ChildrenOne week after surgery I was very tired and was spending all my thought energy on figuring out what liquid thing I could eat (since I ended up despising the Protein shakes).
Who do you have at home to help ? Could you explain what is going on in your personal life to the agency and have the girls come the following week ?
You could do it, but it won't be easy. And if you had any post-surgiical complications your spouse would have total responsibility for you and the girls.
I don't normally sound like a negative Nelly but this is a very important decision.

Spatters3 got a reaction from missmachine in Regrets?I regret having to go through all of the effort and risk and recovery just to do what I always knew would work - eat less - but couldn't do on my own. So... I do NOT regret the VSG but I do regret having to have weight loss surgery period. I get so angry at myself !

Spatters3 got a reaction from Pre-OpLoser619 in What Was Your Breaking Point?I must not break very easy (in other words, I am uber stubborn!). I've been fat my entire life. I managed to diet myself up to 360 lbs (I'm only 5'5"). Since 2005 I have had 3 total knee replacements and 1 foot rebuilt. Before I found a wonderful surgeon who would replace my botched 2nd TKR, I was actually using a power chair. So... after getting the 3rd TKR I figured "all right! now I can move again, I will lose weight!" but nothing happened. The most I could lose was 20 lbs. At that point I finally surrendered and went looking for WLS (I had looked before but the band & the bypass were the only options and they scared the heck out of me). When I saw the sleeve and researched it I was sold. And... it's working ! Praise God !
As for throwing up - for some unknown reason I woke up after surgery unable to even keep down Water. It was horrible ! But after the doctor ordered an upper GI and I was able to see for myself that there were no leaks and no blockage, I think something clicked in my head and I have not thrown up since.

Spatters3 got a reaction from Piplula in Family Can Just Make You Nuts! You have fulfilled your duty as a DIL (by telling her where to find info that will help her) and now it's her choice. Too bad we all don't get wise when we get old. Some of us just get old

Spatters3 got a reaction from Piplula in Family Can Just Make You Nuts! That's so sad. I don't think 74 is too old for the VSG unless she has other health problems that would prevent her healing or being able to survive the diet regimen. The surgery may add years to her life. If you offered her information and support perhaps you would atleast be calling her bluff :-)
I'm getting older (56 already... wow) and I am acutely aware of my own mortality. Her being 74, I'm sure she is too. I don't know why I'm feeling compassionate towards this woman who is probably a real piece of work, but I just am.
Must be hormonal !
