Webchickadee well said. I had reflux before surgery but it went away a I lost during the pre op phase. Then it came back with a vengeance after surgery... Usually at night. Prilosec clears it right up.

I'm nine weeks out and I still put a little too much on my plate even though people who are eating with me think I'm hardly eating. I eat until I'm just staring to felled a little full. If I then wait a few minutes, my tummy registers as completely full. This usually ends up being about a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food.

I agree with the majority. You still have swelling and won't have much of an appetite. I focused on fluids and was able to get Protein in with Syntrax Protein powder. I'm 8 weeks out an still eat small portions. I sometimes wonder how patients with gastric bypasses are able to stretch their pouches out and gain the weight back. I'm utterly miserable if I eat more than 1/2 cup of food.

Everything in moderation and we all are different. I can eat a few spoonfuls of potatoes and feel ok. I cannot tolerate even a few bites of Pasta or I feel sick. I have a cold treat in the form of Bryers low carb ice cream bars a few times a week and my nutritionist is ok with it. I still get my Protein in and yet will enjoy a small piece of cheese pizza with my family when we go out. I don't feel guilt and neither should any of us.

I don't let the negativity get to me. I just enjoy reading many of the post knowing we are all in this together and many of us are going through the same thing.

I've just posted my TOP TEN complaints (annoyances really) about the sleeve, just curious what everyone else's is. My list is on my Sunday blog that I just posted today. (Just click on the link to read them).
Hope every one is having a great week and I'll be curious to know what other people think. Most of the time, we just hear I LOVE MY SLEEVE, but there are those few things.....

I'm so scared to cheat, haha. I've been watching that scale go down every other day and I'm CONVINCED if I have anything sweet at all it's going to bounce back up to my original weight. (I know this isn't the case but karma has never been nice to me)
If you limit yourself from everything good you're going to go crazy and binge. I've been to a few support group meetings and more than several people have stated this. As long as you keep such things as, let's say a weekly or bi-weekly treat, you should be absolutely fine.
I'm living quasi-vicariously through you guys until I stop looking at the scale and work up the courage to visit a Coldstone. I think if I meet my mini goal I'll treat myself to a scoop!

TLP I have often wondered the same thing. The surgeons differ so much. I have eaten bread (1/2 piece). I've even had a small piece if cheese pizza. I believe in everything in moderation an as long as I get a minimum of 65 grams of protein in. I think people react differently to bread and beef. I tolerate them but I have to get up an moving after I eat them because they sit heavy in my sleeve. I say eat slow, try things slowly and see what works for you.

I am 6 weeks out and I still have problems with nausea and vomiting sometimes. Even though I eat slow, I never know if I'm going to get the nausea, then foamies and pain in my esophagus and then throw up. Tonight I had a few bites I the chopped chicken from Garbanzo's and I had to stop eating because I got nauseous. Other ones I have no problem eating. I have been eating regular food since week four. I went out to eat with my family and had 3 bites of a cheese omelette and 1/2 piece of toast. I just wish food didn't cause me so much anxiety over eating.

You are all so inspiring! I have almost zero energy and find it hard to get off the couch once I get home from work. I'm not a morning person and sleep 7-8 hours a night. My job is stressful so when I get home at night, I just want to veg. I know I need to exercise and maybe this will help my energy levels. I've been taking my vitamins and will be getting labs soon. Perhaps I am deficient on something?

I started the minute I could actually do anything. I had to have a six month supervised diet and I couldn't barely walk up the stairs. I started by walking in place. I then started the Gazelle when I lost enough to fit back on it. I went 5 minutes, 10 minutes then 15 minutes, then I increased 2x's a day at 15 - then 2x's a day 1/2 hour then 1 hour 2x's a day. When I was capable of lifting, I added that to my routine, just biceps and triceps, shoulders.
    I lost 70 pounds pre-surgery 10 pounds a month.
After surgery I kept to walking daily. I had a rough time after surgery, I was tired and took 2 naps a day for the first week or so and one nap the 2nd week. I made sure I walked 20 minutes in my house, in a pattern non-stop. Since I had a drain 9 days, walking outside was a bit rough on my body. I did go outside and walk in the yard a bit but I made sure it was timed that I walked 20 minutes and I did this 3 times a day to make sure I got an hour of walking in a day. At 4 weeks I was allowed in the pool and I started walking an hour in the pool a day.
Now I do the gazelle daily for an hour, I walk an hour in the pool and I swim an hour and I lift every other day, on top of walking.
It seems that since surgery I am losing slower than others that had surgery at the same time, and it could be that I am definitely gaining muscle mass. In the pool I do lunges and I do visualize my thighs and buns and do a lot of isometric lung type things. My arms have definition as does my back, shoulders and though I am 49 years old, the skin isn't hanging too much, though I have a ways to go.
My only issue is stomach. I'm 9 weeks out and I have done the "TheFirm" with Sandahl Bergman and I couldn't keep up completely though I tried and though I went through a lot of the motions with stomach exercises, I am not ready for crunches etc. I had a hernia repair and sometimes if I try to do stomach exercises or if I try lifting (or pulling) something too heavy my stomach will bloat up and distend. I have to be very careful still with my stomach. I know my stomach will have some skin issues but so far, my arms and legs are starting to firm up nicely.
I think working on your food issues is imperative pre-op, working on not drinking with dinner, working on 64 ounces of Water, lowering carb intake, but I think it's also important to start working on the dreaded "exercise".
1 pound of Muscle is still a pound. 1 pound of Fat is still a pound but a pound of muscle takes up less space is more dense, and helps promote another pound of fat removal.
Good luck to you and I think working out now is very wise. I would like to suggest, less weights, and more repetition at first for sure though.

HalfTheWoman: I was sleeved on the same day you were. I lost 10lbs on pre-op liquids. I have lost 17 post op. I lose one or two lbs then stall. It's driving me crazy. I'm trying to get 64 oz of Water and usually meet my Protein needs of 55-75 grams. I just started exercising by walking an hour a day. I would be happy with 15 lbs down each month but it looks like I will do about 5-8 l s each month at the rate I'm going.

I have a friend who ate a Keebler type chocolate chip cookie ten days after surgery and ended up in hospital for two weeks. So I'd not say I'm being an alarmist at all. Her story will keep me on the straight and narrow believe me! We all heal differently. What might be fine for one may be dangerous for another which is why following the post op diet is so important. Unless you have previously had the majority of an organ removed, you don't know our healing rate and to push it or encourage that is not responsible.
