I had a grilled veggie burger with no bun, a dab of lite Mayo, a little onion and tomato and a piece of fresh spinach. A 1/4 of a dill pickle and a tiny salad of fresh spinach, a couple chunks of cucumber and tomato with fat free dressing. I have went through TOO much to mess up....this was my first real meal since surgery...ill be 6 weeks out tomorrow.

Lots of good ideas, Mama! I eat animal products but also love vegan food. I do about 3 meals/week of it.

Just does not seem worth it to me. Believe me, I enjoyed my wine before surgery. But I have worked too to get to this point & I am not tempted one bit. It is just liquid calories & my buzz right now is how great I feel.

We LOVE making our own smoothies. Here's a bunch of ingredients you can mix and match for your own smoothies. When I feel like we are coming down with a cold a superfood antioxidant filled smoothie is our first remedy! Making your own is the healthiest way to go!
    Nonfat plain greek yogurt
    Unsweetened Almond milk
    silken tofu
blueberries, peaches, or strawberries (we use frozen)
    spinach
    almond butter
Protein powder - vanilla, strawberry, or fuzzy navel would be good.
    stevia, nectresse, or splenda
If you really want to get them somewhere else, try checking their website or store for nutritional information. I suspect they are loaded with sugar.

I was mixing up a super high (45 gms) protein shake every morning, but yesterday my nutritionist told me that your body can't really use more than 30 gms at a time. I just did a little research and she appears to be correct.

Well, I don't really use recipes...I just made it up. In addition to being a teacher, I sometimes work as a private chef for a family that eats ONLY healthy food.
Here's what I did: I pureed fresh garden peas (you could use frozen!) with a little sesame oil and low sodium soy sauce. I added home made chicken stock until it became the texture I wanted. Then I pureed a mango with lime juice, cilantro, Vietnamese chili garlic sauce, and rice wine vinegar. I seared the scallops in peanut oil. Be sure they are dry when you put them in the pan, and don't crowd them, otherwise they will steam and you won't get good caramelization. Frozen scallops do not sear well because they are full of Water...Plate it up and there you go. Even people who have not had WLS will love it...that is assuming they are lovers of seafood...

moofish reacted to DLCoggin in The Latest On The Obesity Epidemic
Interestingly enough, the success of bariatric surgery along with the very serious implications of the worldwide obesity epidemic has resulted in significant increases in research dollars. Research moves painfully slow and results are still premature but there is mounting evidence that in some cases, genetics almost certainly plays a role. How big a role and what percentage of the overall number are affected still remains to be determined. But early indications should not be surprising given the importance that "family history" plays in almost every aspect of modern medicine. Much more research still needs to be done but there are early indications that differences in metabolic rates from one individual to the next are much more significant than once thought. And there is also evidence that in some cases, those differences may have a genetic origin. Folks who share the widely held belief that "diet and exercise" are the key to solving the obesity epidemic are at best naive, frequently blatantly prejudiced, always ignorant of the facts, and in some cases just plain fools.

moofish got a reaction from DLCoggin in Cocktail Party Contribution
I need to attend a work-related cocktail party tomorrow night. I'm not concerned about the booze part---drinking alcohol just doesn't fit in with my diet plan, so I will stick with my Water..but I wanted to bring something that I could eat (who knows what other stuff other people will bring), and I'm on the soft food stage.
So, I pureed a can of cannellini Beans with goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh thyme, garlic, and ground walnuts. Everyone else can spread it on crackers, but I will eat a few tablespoons, as is...Yum...put it in the fridge so the flavors can meld, then I will bring it to the party at room temperature tomorrow.

Sounds and looks fabulous! I second the request for the recipe!
Paul, I am right there with you. How amazing is this and why the heck did it take us so long to discover it? At almost eleven months out, I can honestly say that I enjoy eating as much or more than I ever did. I love the foods I eat. They are healthy. I'm not hungry all of the time. I don't feel deprived. I truly don't miss all of the crap I used to eat. I'm not suffering in any way. Just amazing!!

I took pounded thin pork chops and seasoned them with cumin, Mexican oregano, salt, pepper, garlic granules and awarded them off in a little extra virgin olive oil. I topped it with tostitos salsa and Mexican blend low fat cheese and browned it under the broiler. I topped it with a salad of kumato ( the brown tomato ) you can use regular tomato as well, scallions, and black olive. I dressed it with some fresh lime juice and salt.

I would pack a cooler with protein drinks, yogurt, cottage cheese and try to stay health if you stop. Try to eat what you have already tried, I wouldn't want to be far from home and have something that did not agree with me!

For a quick dinner I did one of those microwavable breasts in gravy (like Tyson or Hormel and yes I know they are terrible for you!) at 3-4 weeks and had no problems whatsoever. Just shredded it and kept it moist. I think a rotisserie chicken would go down well to because it is moist. I like shredding it - feels like you are eating more and it's easier to take smaller bites.
    Good luck!
