My favorite one.... "he's lost over 100 pounds?!? I wonder if he's still funny?" "nope, all my funny melted off"
-
"wls is the easy way out ya puss" "well, at least I found a way out, how's the hard way working out for you?"
-
Here are some of the snide comments I have received and my answers to them:
"STOP losing weight! You're getting too skinny!" "NO!!"
"I guess I'm the fat friend in the group now." "You don't have to be any friend in the group now."
"I can see your face now since all that blubber and chub is gone." "Stop paying so much attention to me. Good day."
"I've lost X amount of pounds on my own." "Oh...really? Well I have a little Fairy Godmother who pops out and slaps food out of my hand. I guess I didn't do it on my own..."
"WLS is the easy way out. " "It sure was! You jealous?"
As you can see, I'm a bit sarcastic.

TracyLynn reacted to doxieville in This Surgery Does Work, Right? The first four days were hard to keep up my fluids, but I hate that dry thirsty feeling in my mouth, so I just sip all day. You need to find what goes down really easily. For me, I discovered that I could drink warm liquids pretty easily but not cold. My sister spent a few days with me post-op and just kept bringing me different drinks until I had about 5 that I like and now I rotate them. When I was able to add full fliuds earlier this week, I started with blending creamy Soups with my submerssion blender. I use Water instead of milk so it's easier to swallow. Yummy.
When I first started liquids at home, I'd take a big gulp and THEN I'd rememeber, opps, SMALL sips. So i'd keep it in my mouth and slowly let it go down my throat. I found I was able to up my intake that way. Small sips take FOREVER and I get bored easily. :-) When I get that little full feeling, I stop. When It goes away, I start again. If I ignore that warning signal, I pay for it in pain. So I'm really careful.
It is a 24/7 job right now and I am doing nothing else but taking care of myself.
Keep sippinng!

TracyLynn reacted to Spirit Fire in Option For Pasta LoversHas anyone tried the Dreamfields Pasta?
I question anything that is "too good to be true" but I have tried the Dreamfields Penne pasta and it was tasty. I could only eat about 6 pieces of pasta, but it satisfied the desire. Below are two links regarding the pasta -- FAQ and the Nutrition Panel.

Please share your thoughts.
Thanks!

TracyLynn reacted to gustavo52974 in Option For Pasta LoversYes, I've tried it. It's virtually indistinguishable from regular Pasta, at least to my taste buds (and I'm Italian). I was able to eat 8 pieces, which was like a feast! I've heard others say they enjoy whole wheat pasta and rice pasta.
If you do a search for "Dreamfields" or "low carb pasta" on here you''ll find rather lengthy discussions on the topic.

TracyLynn reacted to Wheetsin in I Dont Need Your Help..thanksI've gotten that before - shopping for a friend who's a perfect size 2. As if I didn't know I was too fat to wear the clothes where I was (Anne Taylor). I've also bought for myself for future sizes - if something is cute enough I'll want to keep wearing it, I'll buy it in a few sizes down. I've had some comments about that, too.
I've been dressed down in an upscale store before (I had to make an unplanned trip while I was actually just out to buy more stain since I'd taken the day off to stain my deck, so had all sorts of grime all over me), been looking for the item I was asked to pick up, and be redirected to the clearance area where things are "more affordable" and "deeply discounted, so more likely to be in your price range."
I get catty and/or confrontational when I'm offended. (Un)fortunately, I've never been great at just "taking it," especially when it's personal.
B***h please, go make your minimum wage over there, away from me. Shoo. I'm here to spend a lot of money, not be insulted by you.

TracyLynn reacted to ProudGrammy in Mac N CheeseDH came home the other night with a small box of hot mac n cheese from our local grocery store.
i had one delicious teaspoonful
it was a wonderful splurge - don't plan on doing it again....well ....maybe one more time after the next 8 months, etc. etc. etc.
eating the mac N cheese didn't kill me, i'm still around to write about it

TracyLynn reacted to Webchickadee in Mac N CheeseYou may feel an intense craving for mac & cheese, but if you were to try this (assuming you're healed enough to tolerate it and your medical team has signed off), you may find you don't actually like it!
Many people who have had VSG surgery find they don't tolerate Pasta well at all post-op (same with bread........).
In addition, if you're following your post-op diet closely (you should be, to make the most of this fresh start at a healthier food life!), you'll note that our focus is to eat Protein first, vegetables next (if you have room) and carbs as a last resort. Mac & cheese is very nearly 100% carbs (the cheese is negligible, especially if it's boxed mac & cheese that uses processed cheese powder and not real cheese). So your nutritional value is very low, carbs are very high (usually an impediment to weight loss) and may make you feel unwell, bloated, nauseous and generally unwell!
So my recommendation is to try a bite or two from a friend (don't cook it at home....you'll be left with a pot/pan of it left that you can't eat!) and see how it sits. I'm nearly certain it won't give you the happy contented memories you remember.....

TracyLynn reacted to gustavo52974 in Weight Loss Stall AlreadyMy first stall was at 5 weeks, but it only lasted about 5 days. It was excruciating not seeing the scale move. But this is a marathon, not a sprint.
What's worse is that I'm now in my 6th week and when I stepped on the scale this morning I gained a pound from yesterday! I wanted to scream. I've decided to blame the fact that I was up until 5am last night after being out all night at a bar drinking several bottles of Water (and I hadn't had a bowel movement yesterday).

TracyLynn reacted to lollyfidy1965 in Weight Loss Stall AlreadyI "stall" about every 7-10 days, and it typically lasts 5-7 days, then I start losing again, and will lose 5-7 pounds in the next week. I've run through this cycle several times now, and have come to accept it as "normal" (so it doesn't cause me stress when I get stuck for a few days). This week is a "losing" week, and I am losing...even though I'm grounded from going to the gym, because of a nasty hip injury. Best of luck!

TracyLynn got a reaction from slowlylosing? in Info Needed On Diets And What To ExpectHello, I do not feel offended, it is cool that you are looking out for him. Here are my answers to your questions...
1. How much pain will he realistically expect the first few days?
I took 2 weeks off work, mainly because I could and it was recommended. I used some vacation time and short term disability. I feel I could have gone back to work, but only because I sit at a desk all day. I am still unable to lift anything too heavy. My pain was minimal, I was in the hospital the day of surgery and then half of the next day. I have only taken 1 pain medicine (Advil) since I have been home. I am feeling good now, it has been 2 weeks.
2. What (other than broth) did you find helped during the liquid only stage?
I had two liquid stages, clear liquids and regular liquids. In clear liquids, it was really only Water and broth for me, but I like the Knorr broth, I think it is more flavorfull. The liquid stage was a lot of Protein shakes, I like Atkins, also diet v8 Splash is good.
3. What foods did you enjoy during the puree stage?
Puree stage - weeks 2-4 for me. I enjoy mashed potatoes the most! Also, flavored apple sauce and Nature's Child Spongebob Squished banana Squeezers.
4. Does all of your family know?
My whole family knows, but they are very supportive. It is sad that his family is not like that, but you seem to be and that is important.
5. When did you begin to notice an increase in energy and the desire to really work out?
I am only two weeks out, but I feel better walking, especially after surgery, to get things moving again.
6. Did you have any complications from the surgery?
I had no complications from surgery, I feel well and it went better than expected. I did have a hiatal hernia fixed while I was under and a swollen lymph node removed, but like I said, I feel better.
Good luck to you and your husband!

TracyLynn got a reaction from Red597 in 2 Days Til Surgery Freakout!Prior to surgery I was always hungry or at least rarely full. This was my big fear that I would still be hungry but have no place for the food to go. I have no hunger pains, some head hunger that I am still working through, but it feels great not to revolve the day around food and eating. This is what makes me most happy, hopefully you get the comfort you need and succeed!!

I ran into the same thing about 3 months.... munchee city! I always was hungry and kept eating once every 2 hours... it also felt like I could eat a lot too...I made sure that I was "grazing" on healthy Protein first items and getting all my liquids in. It helped not stall my loss (but it sure slowed down).
I dont know if it was a "brain change" or just me gettin with the program.... but about 5 months I am not hungry at all and just eat because I need to. I also upped the excercise and am once again seeing the scale slide down daily.
You can do this- stay the course and be a big ole looser!
