Thinking Of Revision, But Will Have To Be Self-Pay
I to am a revision candidate, in 2005 I went to Mexico and had my lap-band, I only lost around 45pds, because I couldn't ever eat what I was supposed to without getting sick, the band was sold to me as a lifetime devise and no one ever told me that to survive and actually get in enough calories that I would have to eat around the band. So because all meat made me toss my cookies, I ate mostly carbs. Then earlier this year I suddenly had so much pain in and around my sternum for around 30mins, so much so that I couldn't stand and barely breath. Then as fast as it came it was gone...Geez WHAT was that?...for the next week or so it felt like I was kicked in the stomach, but gradually I started noticing I could eat anything without restriction, and before I knew it I put back all the weight I had lost in about 6months. I started to look into getting this thing out, when I discovered the Sleeve. I'm a Nurse so the next thing I did was start research, and research I did for about 4 months. I chose a Dr. in Mexico for the revision, went June 26th just to find out that my band had eroded, so I came home without the band but also without the sleeve!. Most people that have the revision come home with the sleeve and have no complications, but there are a few of us on this site that have had erosion. Slippage is far more common and usually they are very successful and get their sleeve. I am going to Mexico to have Dr. Ponce in TJ do my revision the 29th of Oct. his price is 5500.00 and he is the Chief of Bariatric surgery and has been practicing since 1995, He has trained most of the doctors you see advertising right here on this site! If you would like to private message me with questions please feel free to do so. There are lots of people in this forum who have already had their surgery and can give you first hand accounts. Leaks can happen to anyone not just revisions, as you research you will discover many reasons people have had leaks, this is why you should research your Dr. very well, and just so you know, the Drs. in Mexico and other Country's have been doing this surgery for years and years, where as the Doctors here in the U S are just beginning to feel comfortable doing the revision.

Erosion....how Long Did You Have To Wait?
Thank you donnie for getting back to me, since I originally started this post, I have come to my senses, spoke with my coordinator who spoke with the surgeon. He says he always states the outside number of months and I should be fine to have my revision anytime in Nov, so I pushed the envelope and am going to be in San Diego the last week of Oct and have decided to have the surgery then, Oct 29th to be exact, as I have chosen a surgeon in TJ. I'm so glad everything worked out for you, I just can't imagine 90% of your band in your stomach. I guess I should be thankful that mine was just to the exterior.

Erosion....how Long Did You Have To Wait?
Thank you everyone for your input  I'm going to ask the Dr. to call me and try to get a more detailed answer, also ask more detailed questions. When I woke up from surgery and also the next day I was so devastated and depressed I neglected to ask the correct questions. We will all get there soon!

Erosion....how Long Did You Have To Wait?
Silviamom, We have talked before, was your erosion to the interior of your stomach?. I have been looking for stats on this, and find in some journals that some say we should be healed by 6weeks to 3months. I'm having a hard time understanding why I was told 6months?. When they staple and remove your stomach you are completely healed within 6 / 8 weeks. I'm a nurse and to tell you the truth I can understand 6 months, to a yr if the erosion was to the inside of the stomach and Dr had to retrieve the band and then repair the damage, and in those cases there would most likely be infection, which is life threatening. I have read about this very thing, but mine was just under the band and not to the interior of the stomach, and no infection. I have read that when they make their staple line its up to the placement of where the band was and then around it they go anyway, because scar tissue is porous and not very viable tissue (its not fed with much of a blood supply). Pegsinthewoods, I did read about your troubles and man you had it ruff, I think I touched on it slightly above, and I surely sympathize. Somehow I think in my case my Dr was / is just overly cautious? Any other thoughts? maybe I'm trying to hard to reason this, because I'm impatient?
