Don't think I've minimized anything - it's obvious the OP has a problem. That's why she posted, after all.
Your post makes it clear you have personal issues with drug users. Perhaps it is best to resolve those rather than taking it out on unrelated people on a forum.
I'm sorry to hear what you went through, and I'm saying this with kindness, not as an attack. I simply don't think attacking unrelated people with addiction issues is the answer. The attacks could very well be directed toward you instead, and I don't think you would appreciate it any more than the rest of us would.
Why not redirect that negative energy into another post where you can build someone up instead of tearing them down?

I have no experience with drugs, but I have plenty with research... so just a few words of advice ?
If you have an addictive personality, it is very easy to transfer your addiction from food to alcohol (most common), but drugs, shopping, and other addictions as well. This is an incredibly difficult journey you're about to go through. Give yourself your best chances and stay away from the other vices - as you've discovered, it is MUCH easier to get drunk quicker, forget your precautions, and end up like you have now in a place that isn't fun.
Plus alcohol dehydrates you. Have some water on the rocks instead ?

Frankly I'm not sure what's worse for your body, overeating consistently as many of us have done for YEARS or having an occasional line of coke.
What I'm trying to say is: as someone who's abused a substance (food) yourself, who are you to judge?
Just because the government, which varies from country to country on this international forum, decides something is illegal doesn't mean it's any less/more harmful. Alcohol was illegal once in the US too, and aspirin would be illegal today for being too powerful if it weren't grandfathered in.

Unless the person is someone close to me and I can tell they really were sincere and meant well with the statement, I don't engage. In my case, I'm a food addict - it's like telling an alcoholic to just stop drinking. No ? Sherlock ?

Your ability to drink water will get much better as time goes on. However, in the beginning, yes, you will need to sip constantly - it will HURT if you drink too much too fast! By 6 weeks post op you will be able to drink MUCH easier, and even gulp a bit if you're like me.

.....(I'll def follow his instructions). The size just was way smaller than what I expected from reading my guide to the surgery. My food bill is gonna be so cheap lol

Starry*Night got a reaction from belikewater in When did you really start to see results?
So, I FELT my first results during the pre-op liquid diet. The lack of carbs made a tremendous difference in the inflammation in my body - after losing 5 lbs, I felt better than when I'd lost 40 in the past. It was eye opening!
From my HW of 280, I saw a difference when I recorded a video of me on surgery day at 259 - and I see a really big difference now that I'm at 239. Now I was in the 230s back in 2017 so I'm not totally ecstatic yet - but when I get into the 220s I might just die of happiness! ?

Okay, so, this is from my experience -
In the beginning, I was SO ANGRY with my boyfriend for not taking his health as seriously as I was taking mine. He was not pursuing surgery, but I still wanted him to get healthier with me - I wanted a partner for the journey.
Angrier than I'd ever imagine myself being btw, because for once in my life I was taking my weight seriously and giving it MY ?? ABSOLUTE ?? ALL ?? and he was not.
5 months after starting the bariatric process and 3 months after surgery, I am no longer angry. In fact, while I care about his health, I now consider it his burden, not mine. I hardly care at all.
You can't force someone to want to change, or force them to have the willpower, conviction, and discipline to change. You can only accept whether you want them in your life or not.
As for me and the bf, it will likely be a factor in us breaking up; I find the lack of attention to his weight unattractive now, whereas before I started this process I didn't mind it. I want to surround myself with people who care about health and fitness because it is now a major part of my life. Of course, you are married so the decision will be harder for you. I just wanted to share my experience in case it helps - you're not the only one who feels this way.

Its been one week since my surgery and my emotions are running rampant. My husband and I began this journey together 6 months ago, He has not scheduled his surgery yet because of seasonal work demands. We had an argument early on, about into month 4 pre-op. that I was doing all the shopping, cooking, weighing, measuring, and he was reaping all the benefits. He wasn't accountable for his own diet and I felt like the diet police. He picked up responsibility for his own weighing, measuring and tracking then...or so I thought. Last week while I was in the hospital I discovered otherwise. he didn't know that I'd set up our accounts to have receipts sent online. To reduce paper. Imagine my surprise when I received a receipt for: 2 packages of Polish sausage, a family size bag of chips, a bag of Hershey kisses, a package of Klondike bars. When I confronted him, he denied it until I showed him the receipt. Ok...so he said he screwed up. then yesterday when I sat down to do Bills I discover He also has been frequenting Burger King, Wendys, Mcdonalds and Little Ceasers: and the amounts on the receipts indicate more than one person should eat..Someone he works with made a comment online to me about how surprised they are that he has lost so much weight considering the sweets he eats at work. I am so angry with him. I feel like he not only is cheating himself but he is cheating on me and hiding it. This last 6 months has not been easy. This past two weeks on liquid has not been easy. I am so angry and he is brushing it off with "OH Well" Your emotions are just heightened right now.

Today is 6 months post op for me and I feel so good. I don’t look at this process as a diet, it’s my new lifestyle. I will have to watch my weight the rest of my life and I’m so ok with that...for me it’s all about the mindset.

I had so many medical issues before surgery and type 2 diabetes was the one that helped me to make my decision to have the gastric sleeve surgery. I can’t be more pleased about my decision and have never had one regret, i was on 1500 mg of metformin and the highest dosage of victoza and my blood sugars were still out of control, now I am not on any meds for diabetes from the day that I got out of the hospital from surgery, my A1C went from 9.8 to 6.6 that was 3 months after surgery so it’s time for blood work again, the endocrinologist said that my A1C will go even lower as I lose more weight...YES I’ve experienced the dreaded feeling sick ? from eating to fast, trying beef to early but it’s all a learning experience and we all have to get adjusted to our new tool. I still have more weight to lose and I am diligently working on it, I do cardio and no strength training yet.

I want to encourage all of the newbies and pre-opers to hang in there, things do get better and better each day...I have so much energy, stamina and just overall better health.

I wish you all the best on your journeys ??

I didn't know where to share my excitement, so I had to share it with you guys! After a slow recovery, my journey is going so well. I'm 7 weeks post op.
Never in my life did I think exercise would become a hobby I love
I have an indoor cycle I use and I've fallen in love with the darn thing! It's like moving meditation - I can zone out from my day, close my eyes if I want to, and breathe and clear my mind while I methodically pedal. I'm actually seeing myself get more fit with it, which for some reason I didn't expect, probably cause I've never stuck to exercising long enough in the past to see myself improve. I now sign up for virtual races to keep me motivated to cycle more than my regular 45 mins a day - and I love it! Who EVER thought that would happen?
    Errands aren't so exhausting
I just got back from grocery shopping, and my mind is blown. I'm used to going to the store and expecting to be wiped out of energy from shopping, have back pain and pain throughout my body, needing to lean on a cart to support my weight. No more! At 45 pounds lost combined with the cycling, I now know what it feels like to be a normal person shopping. Just wait till I lose more!
    Here are some pics:
Last year, ~260's (my starting weight this year was 280) (maroon top) vs now at 236
