I just decided to post pics for the first time tonight....I am embarrassed about the first pic, but figured oh well, I'll do it anyway.
I'm about 4 1/2 months post-op and hit 76 pounds down as of yesterday. The first pic was about 3 weeks after my surgery and taken in Sept 2016. The second pic was taken this morning. I was in a bit of a hurry, so I apologize for the angle. I am so grateful that I made the decision to have this surgery. It was one of the best things I have done. I still have a ways to go, but I am confident I will get there!

reree6898 reacted to milda_vsg in Before and After PicsAaaah, 8 months down the line I can finally see a difference! I look rough as balls due to me still getting over a cold, but that ain't stopping me from enjoying my 'before' and 'during'! 118lbs lost from my highest, 89 since the day of surgery. Best way to start the new year in a long time!

reree6898 reacted to RussT in Before and After PicsI'm a few days away from my 2 month anniversary of my sleeve surgery, and it's been a week since my 2 month pre-op diet anniversary.
Down 85 pounds so far. Here's a before and after. Here's the 2017 and losing a lot more!

reree6898 reacted to LittleBill in I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)Okay, I'll contribute here. I went and found one of the more unflattering pictures of myself. But it is an important one because I am holding my two youngest grandchildren (out of six) from our two older daughters. This is me a year before surgery holding Jonah (2 months old) and Sadie (1 month old). I am pretty much the same weight as I was when I began the program in June 2016 - 481 lbs. The second picture is of me Christmas Day 2016. I am down 117 lbs in this picture. My parents, who are in their 80s, gave ME this book for Christmas. This was one of my favorites as a young boy. We both love to read to our grandchildren, as we did with our children. So Mom and Dad aren't quite senile. They're just ensuring that the traditions can be continued with the same stories. -

Hey y'all!!
Long time, no talk - training for a half marathon and work has been insane lately!
My two year surgiversary was November 20th, and I tried on my old Cotton Ball dress because it was hanging in my closet, lol. (Cotton Ball is a southern cotillion ball - traditional thing with debutantes, etc. - I was 17 when I did it).
Left is from my wedding <3 that dress is a size 28. The one on the right is a size 8; I'm generally a 6 in clothes, but bridal runs small!

Some before and "during" photos!
Left is about 2 weeks ago, mid-Nov 2016. Right is late Oct 2014, about 483 in that pic. Almost 10 lbs down from highest weight!
Just some face comparisons.

reree6898 reacted to Megall9 in I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)I haven't uploaded photos before, so I'm hoping I've done it right! Green shirt photos were the day I came home after surgery, so 3 days post op and 360 lbs. the black shirt photos were end of October 2016. I've lost 95 lbs. The face shot in the green shirt I was at my heaviest of 388 lbs. The difference in my face astounds me. I still have a long way to go, but I am thrilled with how far I've come in in just under 7 months.
Yes, my bathroom mirror needs a good cleaning. Sorry

reree6898 reacted to Elizabeth Anderson RD in Couch to 5K in....9 Months! When bariatric dietitian Elizabeth Anderson decided to get back in touch with her cardiovascular endurance, she decided less is more.
When you Google ‘Couch to 5K’ you’re likely searching for the fastest route from the fitness of well, a relaxed root vegetable to feeling like an Olympian on the cover of a Wheaties Box.
And that’s fine if you’re an average root vegetable with a high tolerance to pain. I however, don’t really like pain, burning lungs or nausea so I sought a different route to resuscitate my fitness.
And ladies and gentlemen, I found it! Last week, the app on my iPhone with the heart on it, confirmed that I had actually run 3 complete miles--that’s 15,840 feet without stopping.
For the first time in my 48 years I had reached the level of fitness that many 4th graders only dream of.
Now I know you're curious to know how I pulled it off, and in just nine months!!
In honor of the holiday and the spirit of giving, I’ve decided to share my details of triumph-- as my gift to you.
Aversion to Pain
Here’s a fun fact. When you begin a new fitness plan you’re going to experience something called the ‘training effect.’
This is a very scientific explanation for the reason your lungs feel like hot lava is coursing through them and your feet feel like lead every day for the first month and a half of your training.
Your body is simply trying to relearn how to handle all this new lactic acid you’re feeding it.
It’s just 6 weeks people. A mere 45 days of wanting to die.
Shockingly, I decided I wanted to circumvent the ‘training effect’ if at all possible.
For the first 4 weeks I simply walked like an Olympian. Well, let’s say I power walked.
But then I got impatient and decided to add a little running in. (By running I mean a chipper jog. And by a little, I mean a. little. )
I used the telephone poles along my route as start and stop markers. I’d walk the distance between two poles and then jog the next.
Gradually I increased the ‘running’ portion as I felt stronger and my bladder was cooperating.
15 Minutes Max!
Probably the cornerstone of my fitness feat is the absolute strict adherence to the 15 minute rule.
Whether I walked or walked and jogged, I always kept my total workout time to 15 minutes.
I know that might be hard to imagine and not everyone has this kind of discipline and fortitude; I am one of the fortunate ones.
One Goal, No Timeline
To be honest, I didn’t start with the 5K/3 mile mark as my goal.
My only goal was to be able to run more than 50 yards without having to stop from utter exhaustion.
This was really a day by day journey; my only quantifying measure was my perceived level of exhaustion.
I Made it Kinda Fun
Some running purists feel those who need music to run aren’t true lovers of the sport.
What these snarks are missing out on is the pure bliss of rocking out to Donna Summer’s Bad Girls when they pass the one mile mark.
The dance my soul does when it hears Petula Clark belt out Downtown or Spandau Ballet’s True, helps me bask in Eckhart Tolle’s Now instead of ‘how much longer???
And those neat apps that keep track of how far you’ve run? I figured out how to use them!
And you know what? They’re actually kind of motivating.
One day I started out jogging very slowly—no walking warm-up at all—and decided to see how long I could go without feeling I needed to dial 911.
I nearly wept, well I did cry, when I saw I had gone a mile. A mile!!
Now, I was on fire!
Within just another four weeks, still following the extremely disciplined 15 minute per day model, I was at TWO miles!!
Flash forward to last week when I hit the 3 mile mark. I’m surprised you didn’t hear the Chariots of Fire theme at your house.
I realize these kind of success stories are rare and sometimes hard to believe. But I ask you to suspend your doubt and believe that these events sometimes DO happen.
When you take a dedicated individual, unwilling to follow the rules, unconcerned what passersby might be thinking and challenge them to get fit in their own damn way, miracles can occur. Miracles.

reree6898 reacted to dcoral in I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)Here is my before and after picture. I had gastric sleeve surgery May 4, 2016 and the picture on the left is from April 17, 2016, I weighed 310. The right is Oct. 20, 2016 and my weight is 208. I've lost a total of 102 pounds in just under 6 months! Even though I went into this with the goal of being successful, I never dreamed I could have been this successful! This journey had taught me so much about myself, that I am courageous and strong, that I can do things that I once thought were impossible. Last summer I went to Yosemite National Park with my family, and sat on a bench while they hiked around, I even cried because I felt so pathetic! This past summer we went to Smokey Mountain National Park, and not only did I hike but I hiked up some pretty steep paths!! So many things have become better having dropped 100 pounds. I am so happy I made the decision to have the sleeve, it truly is the best thing I have ever done for myself!!
